jennybeans it's funny how babies are so different. We were up to level 3 pretty quick with DD because she got pissed it was coming so slow. I had an overactive letdown so she might have just been used to that.
I'm a little scared of all these guessing games again at first to figure out what works. Can't mine come with a manual?
Any thoughts on glass vs plastic (BPA free) for the Avent Natural Bottles?
We had two of each kind in the 4 ounce size for DD. I liked both for different reasons (so probably not really helpful lol) The glass washed up nicer (we didn't have a dishwasher) but once she could hold her own bottle, the plastic won out since the glass was too heavy for her. Also, the glass ones were too heavy to hook up to my pump.
We had the Tommee Tipee and he took them on the 1st try. I had to supplement, so I got lucky. I had different sizes. Don't buy don't many, because it sometimes takes a lot of trial and error before finding one that the baby likes. My sister probably tried 5 types of bottles before my nephew took one.

Do the glass ones have a sleeve like some other brands?

The "Infant Starter Set" I was looking at does not include any sleeves, but there are reviews saying they are available. Looking into that now actually.
ETA: See mc13's post below this one. She already knew the answer.

Nope, they don't come with one. But Avent has recently come out with a sleeve that you can buy separate and there's another brand too, but they're like $7 for each sleeve.

Make sure daycare (if you will be using) will allow glass bottles. Ours required plastic even though there are the silicone sleeves available for glass.

Ha- DS was such a piggie once he figured out milk could come from bottles too that he would have downed one with a level 3 nipple in about 10 seconds probably! As it was he could kill a bottle with a level 1 nipple fast and we had to ask the daycare teacher to make him take breaks too since he would just spit it all back up burping!

Ooo good call. Never would have thought of that.
Baby hopefully won't be in daycare until about 6+ months old so I could probably get away with glass at the beginning then switch to bigger plastic bottles if need be later on.
For carriers, I used the k'tan breeze when DD was very little and then the Ergo Performance. I picked the k'tan because it seemed much easier to use than the Moby/Boba wraps (which are just one huge swath of fabric). I found it very easy to use and comfortable. I didn't use the Ergo as much as I thought I would, but I do like it - very easy to get on for front carrying (though putting LO on your back without help is a challenge). I find it's not particularly comfortable to sit down in - I much preferred the k'tan for that.
We used Avent bottles as well, but DD didn't seem picky (she would also take Tommy Tippee - we didn't try any other brands because Avent worked just fine).
fem yes! That's the only bottle DS would take. It was like the 12th one we tried! I ended up going to babies r us one day and they were having a raffle and I won. Came with four Lanisoh momma bottles so we gave them a shot! He finally took them! I highly recommend them to everyone but every baby is different!

I went down the glass road, but once he wanted to hold it himself (4-5 months) they became dangerous. At around 7-8mo, he'd play with the bottle if I didn't immediately grab it when he was done and made his lip bleed one day because he hit himself so hard with it. We were team plastic after that. Glass also adds extra weight to your diaper bag...

I can weigh in on carriers. We used the K'tan early on with DD, but she hated it. Later on I bought a Beco Gemini which is great if you want a carrier that has crossing straps. However, she grew out of it by 1 year so I bought a Tula in the Fall which we love.
For this baby, I just bought a wrap. The flaw with the K'tan is that there is only one way to wear the baby in terms of where the fabric goes. I have a lot more flexibility with a wrap and my local Babywearing International has been helpful with showing me different carries.
On that note, I'm selling my black K'tan, size small, if anyone is interested. It's in excellent condition and has been washed :-)
I have a Moby wrap I use for the first few months, and an Ergo carrier I use until they can't fit in it anymore (45 lbs) or I get KU, and the belt starts to bother me. I know some people have trouble with the Moby, but I didn't have any. I received it from the Hub's cousin who is super into baby wearing and woven wraps, so she made sure I was comfortable wrapping it on my own. I also started wearing my babies the first day we were home. My kids were each over 7 lbs, so I didn't have the weight threshold issue. I wore my newborns almost at all times unless I was nursing, napping, or changing them (obvs DH gets plenty of time as well). The Ergo is great. My sister got the infant insert for hers, and had no need for another carrier. Tula's are very similar in design, I've also seen many others out there now that look very similar, I think ones to avoid are the "crotch danglers." Also, Zulily is a great website to stock for carrier deals. I know my Ergo was $135, but I've seen them on Zulily for $65, and they're on there often, usually because they are discontinued colors or designs.
I use 3 different bottles, and don't really have a preference. All my kids receive only breastmilk, and I nurse exclusively at home, so they don't really get bottles until they go to day care at 3 months old. I haven't dealt with anything like lazy eating or nipple confusion going from bottles back to nipples. We have Dr. Brown's (they can be a pain to wash, and they have to be upright or they'll leak in a diaper bag), Phillips Avent (they have covers that create a tight seal, so they can bounce around without leaking), and Medela (again, a leaking cover). The leaking cover issue might be remedied by now, I've only purchased new nipples for my bottles. I also got them all at garage sales or from friends/family, so they could just be an older design. I like that the Dr. Brown's fit onto my Medela PIS and Freestyle pumps, so when baby starts sleeping through the night, and I have tons of extra milk in the morning, I can get it all into one bottle rather than have to change mid pump. I've never had supply issues, and my body responds very well to pumping, so this might not be something that matters to you if you pump much less.
Also, sometimes babies just spit up, and it has nothing to do with the bottle, the milk/formula, reflux, or anything like that. My first, as well as my formula fed nephew, were what they call a "happy spitters." Meaning, he nor I could go anywhere without an extra change of clothes, because, after every feeding (and I do mean every feeding) he would spit up. No amount of burping or keeping up right could stop it, but he wasn't distressed by it, he gained weight like a champ, and thrived. He just always spit up. Babies don't have sphincter (round muscle) control, and it can be worse in others. Once their diet isn't entirely liquid, it goes away.
Finally, it you're having trouble getting your breastfed baby to take a bottle, I've found warming the milk to slightly warmer than body temperature seemed to do the trick, again, regardless of what bottle you choose.
We just used the medela bottles that came with my pump and bought a ton of extras. She got bottles of expressed milk starting at about four weeks when I went back to my part time job, then she started full day care at four months when I went back to full time work. Luckily, she wasn't a picky baby so we didn't have to experiment. Well, she was picky about frozen milk so I usually had two full days of fresh milk in the fridge and I ended up donating the frozen I'd stored up.
I have a ktan for newborn time and then switch to the ergo around two to three months. I also got a tula at about nine months. We'll probably wear the newborn even more with an almost two year old running around.
I echo the love of the k'tan for early, and then ergo when they are a little bigger.
I stayed far away from Dr. Browns bottles, so may parts! As much as my life I have spent washing bottles, I definitely wanted to make that process as easy as possible. We liked Avent.
I'm spiraling on expensive carriers. I might go to the local babywearing group and try some - Lillebabys and Lenny Lambs are catching my eye lately. I really don't 'need' one though since we have an Ergo.

Is it bad that I read this and thought "Well, maybe he won't do that again..."

Lol nope. This is my thinking with my LO. Obviously as long as he's not seriously hurt but if you climb on a toy and fall, be more careful next time kid.

This is exactly how my parents were with me and my siblings. I have a very vivid memory of my youngest brother wanting to "help" during a renovation of the dining room. He took one of my dad's screwdrivers and plunked himself down in front of an electrical outlet. Dad told him repeatedly not to stick the screwdriver in that hole, bad things would happen. He went ahead and did it anyway. He got a good zap but wasn't hurt, and after that he was always the kid who warned other kids about being careful with electrical stuff.

I LOVE my Lenny Lamb!! The fabric is so incredibly soft! I'm considering a woven wrap this time around. The Boba that I have seemed to be too stretchy once he put on a bit of weight.
You won't regret the LL purchase! Unless of course this is your last child... I do believe they hold their value well though.

This probably is our last but my excuse is since we have all the stuff from DD I might as well get a few splurges . I like the new on their new one coming out that is kind of a cross between a Mei two and a SSC.

Yeah I saw that and thought about it too. I have a cheapo mei tai from target and I'm meh on it. Mainly because the ties are soooooo ridiculously long. I haven't done enough research to decide if I like theirs or not. But it was nice to roll the bottom to make it more suitable for an infant and not need an infant insert.

I used the Baby K'Tan when the coffee bean was super little and now I use a Tula which I love. I got Mr. Coffee (DH) a Lillebaby which he hasn't used much. Re: bottles/nipples: different babies like different things. Hoard the samples they give you in registry gift bags and collect one or two bottles of a few different brands. Your LO is bound to like something. You don't want to stockpile one brand based on our suggestions if your LO ends up hating it. When the bean was born I had (I shit you not) like 20 different pacifiers. He ended up ONLY liking MAM brand (to this day). I was glad I didn't have a bunch of doubles of another brand. **Please don't quote. I poof** Here's me and the bean in his Tula. I posted this on a baby wearing group on FB where a lady posted that you can't rock the sugar skulls print if you're carrying a boy and I was like, "uh..." ***photo poofed****
It looks interesting. My biggest issue though is that this model doesn't allow forward facing. It's not an issue for all babies, but it was for mine. He kept turning his head in the Ergo and never got comfortable in it.
This time around I bought the Lillebaby because it allows lots of positions and starts from birth and it's ergonomically safe. I also just ordered the baby k'tan in dandelion since it looks so easy. I had a hand me down wrap last time and never used it because it was overwhelming.
I also have a sling that I got for super cheap, but I'm not fully comfortable with it. It's fine if I'm doing things in the house, but wouldn't got out with it.
