I have three kinderpacks, a beco genini, a moby, a natibaby wrap that was never broken in, and a rando ring sling from my parents' neighbor. By the time I really got into wearing, DS was already losing interest since he was becoming mobile and more independent. I occasionally still wear him but I am psyched to wear this baby from day one. I welcome any and all recommendations and suggestions for wraps or slings.
I have a Lillibaby SSC that I use for outdoorsy stuff and quick errands. And then I have way way way too many woven wraps, split pretty evenly between Didymos and Pavo. Oh, and a Risaroo. My husband also has a couple Pavos and is too good to use the Lillebaby haha
I started out with a pretied wraps thingy that I can't remember the name of right now. It's basically two loops? It was good for learning but I cannot wait to wrap a tiny one with my woven wraps
I only have two wraps. Lol. A 6 (girasol paradise) and a 4 (didymos lisca blues). I can do all the carries I want with these, so I don't think I'll be getting any more unless I can really justify it.
We have a lenny lamb ssc but don't really use it any more.
I've been super interested in all the onbus I'm seeing. I think they'd be good for tandem carrying when the new babe gets here?

omg babywearing is my one crazy obsession. I never got into cloth diapers or making my own baby food but I loooooove looking at wraps and carriers and I'm so excited to change up my stash for a squish.
My current stash: -Kinderpack, Standard/Plus in Swedish Owls. This is what I use the most right now with my toddler -Ring Sling: Solnce Lotus Aquatic Dance (50% linen/50% cotton) -Size 4 handwoven: Ruckstar Daydreamer with navy weft, all cotton -Size 4: Solnce Laurus Last Summer Kiss 100% cotton. My son's legacy wrap -Size 5: Pavo Hamakotoba Rika, 100% cotton -Size 6: eSeasons Holst. Pima cotton wrap, silk/cashmere weft -Size 7: Solnce Genesis Ararat. Cotton, tussah silk, ramie -Size 7: Solnce Phases Vintage Moon. Cotton, cashmere, ramie, kapok
Obviously Solnce is my jam but I've also owned Natibaby and Tekhni in the past. I was just starting to get into handwovens when my son stopped wanting to be wrapped; he is a terrible seat popper and I have T-Rex arms.
I looooove making recommendations for people and I'd probably get my BW educator training if I didn't work full time.

There is nothing wrong with stretchy wraps and buckle carriers (also called SSC, soft structured carriers). Don't feel like you have to use a woven wrap to be a 'real' babywearer. They definitely require practice and honestly having a local babywearing group that can give you pointers is almost a requirement IMO.
LovesMeSomeCake Tula and ergo are both great carriers. Both of them will require the use of a special infant insert though for a newborn and some wearers find them a pain in the ass. Lillebaby makes some great carriers that don't require an insert and are around the same price point.
silvermelody , I am glad you like making recs because I need some. I want to get a new RS. Point me in the right direction!
How big was your son at birth and what kinds of colors/patterns do you like?
Girasol RS and Didymos Lisca RS are my go-to ring slings for babies. The Didy will probably be more supportive for a bigger baby/toddler. But there are a ton of new brands out in the last two years so depending on your preferences I can probably give you a bunch of choices. And you can very likely find one of them used in good condition on a swap.

*poof* that was fast
If function is what you're in it for, then you're good to go! For me it's a little bit more of a hobby. I like to try new textures and colors and sizes, so buy/sell/trade and scoring new wraps is where it's at! I still don't know all that many carries, though, so my stash isn't exactly justified. But whatever. We also use them for blankets, photo backdrops, and a mean game of peekaboo

He was 8 lbs and.... 3 oz? Is it bad I can't remember? As for colors/ patterns, I am pretty open but tend to prefer brighter colors, simple patterns/ shapes. I really like the Didys so I am glad you recommend them. Also, I am part of all the FB swaps but they really are so overwhelming because I have no use what I am looking for.

I can't find the post but did someone say they have a Lenny lamb SSC? I hear they are super comfy and soft. I have been very interested in getting one. Worth it? Like I said, I have three KPs (1 infant/ standard, 1 infant/plus, and 1 standard/ plus).

I have a lillebaby and a happy baby wrap. I never actually used the wrap with dd but am looking forward to trying it with the new baby. My husband has an onya but it hasn't seen much action.
I have a caboo close organic, I like it but find there is a lot of spare material to deal with. I'd like to expand my babywearing as I see my self waring more with DS in the pushchair/stroller for a while yet.

I'm planning to try one soon but yes, I have heard from reputable friends that they are softer than a Tula or Kinderpack and are definitely worth the price. I believe the KP straps are more adjustable but I can't quite recall.
Soul Slings also just released a buckle carrier and I'm interested to see the reviews on those since it also looks softer.

The Didy's break-in pretty easily and I can pretty much guarantee that an online shop like Birdie's Room or 5mr will have a sale between now and January and you can score a new one at a discount. You can try searching The Big Swap just for the word "lisca" (in the quotation marks) and it should bring up all the sale posts for them, though some will be wraps and not ring slings. Or you can skim the Ring Sling album.
Tula makes some cute Ring Slings as well actually that are bright but simple. Yaro also is in the same price range and has some nice designs in bright colors.
I like my LL ssc, it's very comfy and soft. But the straps are a PITA to get the perfect fit with, you you basically don't touch them at all once you have adjusted.
I had a Moby when DS was tiny, and he loved it but only when out of the house. Switched to Ergo when he was big enough - I hated the infant insert bc it was so hot, so I just folded a receiving blanket under his butt and used the ergo that way, once he was big enough to get his legs in a comfy position in a tummy to tummy carry.
I'm psyched so many of you are experts in this, I would loooove some advice. I've almost pulled the trigger on a wrap or sling a few times, but the choices are overwhelming...
Wrap vs ring sling for infant? (Or just get both lol)
Where to start for wraps? What size? Linen, cotton, or something else? (I tend to sweat more than average.)
Can I wrap to carry a toddler too? Is there a size that I could use for both toddler and infant, or would I need to get different sizes?
DS was 9 1/2 lbs at birth so we do big infants, if that matters...
Eta and now I see geekmama carrying your 2yo - there's hope for my DS and wearing! Yay! He likes the ergo so I feel like we could do it...

This thread is intimidating.
I loved snuggling with the Moby until about 6 months. After that, I used to the Ergo 360 for when we walked anywhere in the neighborhood.
As an infant, babywearing helped me get shit done when the babe wouldn't let me put her down. After that, it was a mode of transportation when a stroller didn't make sense. I wouldn't call it a "hobby" but I want to try to get out more during my maternity leave this time around. So I might pop back in here in January for tips!

Thanks so much! I know what I will doing tonight once DS goes to bed.
are tula/ergo a higher price point? what is the Cadillac of baby wearing for reference?
Tulas have a bit of a higher price point, and there some limited edition patterns and such (which drives the price of them higher on the secondhand market) Generally, you'll be able to sell an excellent condition Tula for about what you paid for it (less depending on wear, more if it's a sought-after print); an Ergo resells on my parents listserv for about $50 in very good condition. That said, there are also super high end wrap conversions (when someone makes a wrap into a carrier) and other high end wraps that cost $1,000+.
Really, I wouldn't worry too much about brand, but find one that works for your body--Ergo, Tula, Lillebaby, Beco are all well-known brands (there is some consolidation going on in the market at the moment--I think Beco and Boba merged, and Ergo and Tula).
I am a short apple shaped woman, all chest and tummy no hips, suggestions?
