Well, the last two nights have been hell, so we're going to have to do something... Any idea why an 11 month old would wake up, fuss, and the be inconsolable for an hour and a half? If I was holding her, she'd arch her back and thrash, if I put her in the crib or on the floor she'd hold her hands out to be picked up and scream even harder. It wasn't food. DH went in first, but it didn't get better when I went in, wasn't diaper, could have been teething, I guess, but there aren't any other symptoms that I notice... It was just a big hot mess. I'm debating starting the sleep lady shuffle, but this crying jag thing she's on weirds me out... I keep thinking I must be missing something... She's always woken up more than I like, but it's been easy to get her back down... I just which I knew what was causing this.

Oh, But also know that he has a usual routine of only waking up once, we will let him cry for five or 10 minutes to see if he goes back to sleep before going in. Because it's unusual for him to wake up more, and may just be a nightmare that he can fall back asleep from.

We had this happen the other night, and I have no clue either. I'm guessing his stomach was bothering him, or he was having nightmares, or teeth were bugging him. It took tylenol and a sippy cup of water with a little juice before he calmed down and went back to sleep.
So after reading this thread yesterday I decided that we needed to give another, REAL, shot at transitioning G into her crib. As much as I love co-sleeping (literally tearing up writing this because I'm going to miss having her with us at night), I think she'll continue to want to nurse in the MOTN if I'm always right next to her and my husband will continue to want me to nurse her to get her back to sleep.
So last night we put her in her crib. She woke up 4 times. The first time I went in and held her until she fell back to sleep. Second time my H went in, third time I went in a nursed her, fourth time H went in. We stayed strong and put her back in her crib every time though.
Wish me luck that it only gets better from here!
My H just told me that after I left this morning though she woke up earlier than usual and he brought her into bed with him. He said she fell back to sleep for maybe 10 minutes until his parents got there (to watch her). Should I tell him not to bring her in our room at all? And like on the weekends should we not bring her in our room with us in the mornings?

I would recommend not bringing G in to your bed to try to get her to sleep, if your ultimate goal is to not have her sleep with you at all. I would say that bringing her in your room is probably fine, and even in your bed if it's just for play time, but you may want to give it a little more time until she is more established in her crib.

This is BH exactly when he's teething. Doesn't want to be held, doesn't want to be put down. He's a terrible teether.

This is DD when she is teething too. It's horrible. I'm going to run out and get Advil today because the tylonel is not cutting it
beersandweirs Oh no we're not trying to bring her into bed to sleep, it was at 7AM. I just meant when we wake up in the morning if we just hang in bed for a while and watch TV or cuddle. He said she fell back to sleep for maybe 10 minutes while he was getting ready, I'll tell him to try and leave her in her crib if that happens again though.

We did this with LBB when he was little. We were super strict about him sleeping in bed with us (in retrospect it was so not a thing to be strict about, but FTP), but on weekend mornings we'd bring him into bed around 6/7 so we could sleep in a bit. Until he stopped falling back to sleep. The only time he's ever slept in our bed was during that period, on vacation, and a couple weeks ago when he had a nightmare.

bookninja, + whatever that it probably is from teething. Whenever M wakes up crying more than 3+ times within a short time, we give him Advil. Works much better than Tylenol for us.
Hopefully I'm not jinxing myself--but Gianna slept through the night in her crib for over 8 hours last night! We'd stayed strong putting her back in her crib the three previous nights. Friday night she didn't need any MOTN feedings and then last night we she just slept through. I can't believe it!
I'm so thankful this thread was posted because we weren't going to try (again) until after her birthday!
I put this in every sleep training thread I think, but I'll post again anyway. For anyone not comfortable with CIO or their current routine, we really liked working with Rebecca Michi. We did the 28 day challenge, but she has a few different options. We've let him develop a few bad habits again, but nothing too bothersome and he can and will sleep 10-12 hours overnight in his bed if we are consistent.

Anyone's LO trying to climb out of their crib. I have noticed Mal doing it several times before. But tonight he was trying really hard and half way up his rails.
