Taking a toddler to a wedding. Advice?

Pray for us!  

We're taking our son with us (turns two in June, he was a July baby who came early!) to a 4pm wedding and reception at a ballroom in town.  I don't think it's super fancy, and obviously not too churchy since it's in a ballroom, but it still seems like the babe will be expected to sit still and be quite for the ceremony.   Any advice?  This is the kid who doesn't give a crap-in-a-hat about tv, so watching something on my phone won't work.  Nursing would be perfect, but that ship sailed long ago...

Also, thoughts on his outfit?  We're planning to put him in a long sleeve button up shirt with a vest and tie, but shorts.  It's hot here, yo.  Do you think shorts are terrible?  He looks adorable in this ensemble, of course

I would sit where you can make a quick exit and be sure to do so the minute you think you are losing control. You don't want to distract from what is going on. Bring lots of snacks and books, maybe stickers and a pencil and paper.

We took our son to a wedding this time last year, but it was very informal and our friends were very close with ds. I put him in a romper that buttoned up and had a collar and it was adorable, but again informal. The wedding DH and I are both in this weekend is much more formal and we elected to leave him at home. Since we are in the wedding, we won't have time to chase him around and I didn't want the stress. Kids are allowed, but there won't be many there.

Don't take your seat to the last possible minute. If it isn't a religious ceremony it should be pretty quick.

Maybe try bringing something like this

and maybe a snack that might distract him.

I think the outfit sounds really cute!

Early FFFC - we told DD that the water wow only works at restaurants - it's our best restaurant toy right now, and it's easy to find water!

We went to a wedding when DS2 had just turned two. Luckily it was short ceremony, but I did have my iPad and he played a few games on mute for a bit.

I would sit somewhere near the back/end of the row in case you have to step out.

DD has been to two weddings and has never made it past the bride walking down the aisle. I usually stand in the back and let her watch the procession and then we make our exit and entertain ourselves in the lobby/outside until the ceremony is over. She loves the receptions though!

Gerber yogurt melts, for the win! He may have eaten the entire bag by the time the bride was kissed, but it was worth it!!

I even got several "he was so good!" comments after the ceremony

Also, the ceremony ended up being outdoors, so the shorts were perfect!
