1. Are you a current, recovering or recovered insomnia sufferer? Current
2. Did you always suffer from insomnia or was there a trigger? Always
3. What are you doing to treat or cope? Is it working? I started taking klonopin again and it's helping some.
4. Any major break-through lately that has helped you sleep. Just the meds.
QOTM: What kinds of activities do you do when you can't sleep? Lately I just pretend to be asleep. Used to I would get up and do things, but with a new baby I figure rest might be as close as I get so I'm taking what I can get.
Summer really messes up with my circadian rhythm. It's been harder to fall asleep at night, though I'm still getting some sleep, mostly in the AM. My kids have been amazing and either sleep in or keep quiet until I get them (usually till 8 or 8:30, but sometimes the 2 year old sleeps in till 9), so that's been really helping with extra sleep in the morning. But DS starts kindergarten in the fall and we will have to wake up earlier. It's giving me anxiety. MH and I talked about getting a morning nanny just so that I have that peace of mind. But it makes me feel like a failure as a mom, so I'm having a hard time with it. Our plan is to try to reset my rhythm over the summer and see how it goes first.
I have to get better about participating in threads I start.
1. Are you a current, recovering or recovered insomnia sufferer? Current
2. Did you always suffer from insomnia or was there a trigger? Always.
3. What are you doing to treat or cope? Is it working? I take Ambien. 4. Any major break-through lately that has helped you sleep. I've been exhausted lately. I think that's due to other medical stuff going on. I've doing this weird thing lately where I pass out for about two hours, wake up to take the ambien, then go back to bed.
QOTM: What kinds of activities do you do when you can't sleep? I eat or watch tv. I think those are on the top of the list of things you're not supposed to do.
1. Are you a current, recovering or recovered insomnia sufferer? Current
2. Did you always suffer from insomnia or was there a trigger? I've always struggled with sleep but my bipolar is a major trigger
3. What are you doing to treat or cope? Is it working? I've been trying different medication cocktails to find something that works, but only some luck so far. I also diffuse essential oils to try and create a calming mood before bed.
4. Any major break-through lately that has helped you sleep. My newest medications and the change of time of taking one medication has helped some.
QOTM: What kinds of activities do you do when you can't sleep? Read. Lay awake thinking. Go on my phone. Depends on the day.
1. Are you a current, recovering or recovered insomnia sufferer? Current
2. Did you always suffer from insomnia or was there a trigger? After my second child was born 2 years ago.
3. What are you doing to treat or cope? Is it working? I'm continuing to work on my anxiety through exercise, yoga, and basically reminding myself that there is plan B if I don't get enough sleep. So far it seems to work. Also, I'm still using the collection of talk show audios/podcasts to help me fall asleep. The audio helps me focus on something non-personal so I can just unwind and fall asleep. 4. Any major break-through lately that has helped you sleep. Not a break through, just a continued improvement on falling asleep.
QOTM: What kinds of activities do you do when you can't sleep? I just try to find another podcast or talk show audios and listen to that. Lately, I've been able to get some sleep even on really bad nights. So thankful.
@wallieflowers - I'm sorry you had a rough time sleeping. Hope you got some good sleep eventually! Yoga helps me a lot with release of tension, it works a lot better than just meditating and breathing exercise. At first, I didn't feel like it did much - but I kept going to classes and started seeing improvements on how I managed my anxiety. I would say it took about a month (2-3 classes per week).

I was supposed to start on Monday. I haven't been feeling so hot, but i'm trying again on Friday.

Sorry you haven't been feeling well. I hope you like the class! It's seriously one of my favorite things to do in the world now. I had never been to one before the insomnia hit me, but it's become such a huge part of my insomnia/anxiety management.
I tried banana tea last night for the first time after my clinician told me she had other clients that raved about it and it actually worked!!! All you do is take a whole banana, skin and all, and boil it in water for about 10 minutes then drink the water. It tastes like a banana and worked surprisingly well. I was sure it wouldn't work, but it did.

Does it help with falling asleep or staying asleep? Or both?

I'm hoping it will help with the ongoing pelvic pain.

I can't say much for the staying asleep part because I was constantly being woken up by a screaming baby, but it helped me fall asleep.

I tried it last night because I've been having a horrible time falling asleep the last few days. Sadly it didn't work but I'm going to try again tonight. I think maybe I didn't prep it right. I cut the ends off and there was a lot of black residue in the water. FTR I did clean the banana thoroughly before boiling it so I don't think it's dirt.
I got maybe 3-4 hours last night (this morning) after having almost no sleep the night before. I haven't gone to yoga last week because they changed the schedule so I'm thinking maybe that's it. Lots of anxiety falling asleep. I'm gonna do yoga from YouTube tonight and see if that helps as well as the class.

That's weird. I wonder where the black residue came from. I didn't cut off the ends when I did mine, but I don't see why that would make too much of a difference. Weird. I hope it works better for you tonight!
@led, it did work better last night! And my banana tea didn't have any weird residue this time, I think maybe I boiled it for too long the night before. It still took me 3 hours to fall asleep but I got a solid chunk until I woke up at 8 to get kids ready for camp.
I hope your baby is giving you some longer stretches at night & the banana tea continues to work for you!
