Just got irrationally pissed at H, because he's planning to go to game night as usual. We need to do some shopping, and I was annoyed that he was going to blow it off for game night. Then I realized that even if he didn't go to game night, we wouldn't have time to go shopping anyway, because the kids have to go to bed.
kcrkcs it might be old school, but I feel like it's not harmful advice. What about oatmeal instead of the cereal?
Wonder if oatmeal would have the same iron content. Hmmm
Is there some reason she needs a iron supplement? Dd1 did, and I ended up giving her fortified oatmeal at 6 months, but she was premature and also had chronic low grade blood loss from blood in her stool. Dd2 has chronic blood loss as well, but we won't be supplementing. They can usually do a quick heal prick hemoglobin test in the office if they are concerned about it. My understanding is that in full term, healthy babies their iron stores should be sufficient for at least the first 6 months.
I'd keep up the formula supplementation and wait on food, but I'm sure either way you decide to go she will do great.
A nurse friend of mine just posted a picture of her 2 week old napping in her crib...on her belly...with a blanket covering her. She has a 2yo son. It's giving me anxiety

I thought giving breastfed babies vitamin D drops was standard?

kcrkcs - the more I'm thinking about this, the less sense it makes to me. The doctor thinks you should just bypass the formula and give cereal instead? That's not going to solve your supply problem, and I doubt a tablespoon of cereal is going to fill her up enough to not want her sippy cup of milk.
For me, it would be less stressful in that situation to just supplement with formula. I would drive myself nuts trying to actually fill a baby up with solids this early on.

NellieOleson yeah didn't make a ton of sense to me either. But I am so over tired I just didn't know if it was me or not. Will keep thinking this over. Maybe I can formulate some better questions than I was able to come up with today and get the whole thing clarified for myself. In the end I don't think it will break her either way so there's that. But the goal is to be full so there's that.
kcrkcs just be careful supplementing, it was a dangerous slope for us. Like I posted on FB, I just had to switch to straight formula because work stress was basically drying me up and we were already having to supplement so I went from stressing over my supply to taking advantage of supplementing since it was easier! I'm so disappointed that I'm not nursing anymore.
Not saying that will happen for y'all, but I honestly expected to supplement for about a month to build up a supply and then go back to straight breast milk and it didn't work for us.
Anyone else have a roller? I love seeing these milestones but it's bittersweet,...especially because last night was the first night he rolled and got his feet stuck between the slats in his crib! Screamed bloody murder, so planning to go get mesh bumpers this weekend!
kcrkcs to counter newmomma8's post, we supplement with formula at night sometimes. I don't have to do it every night but some days he's especially hungry or my supply is a little low. On the nights we supplement I usually pump for 15mins after he's asleep and I'm watching tv with a glass of wine.

This is kind of what I hoped would work out for us.
Lsquared, that was my goal but it didn't work. I got to where if I pumped when he had supplement I didn't "fill up" enough to satisfy him the next feeding. So for us it didn't work but I know it does work for others. I was hoping for the best and didn't get it unfortunately. Glad it's working for y'all!

My Ped has never mentioned Vit D drops to me with DS or DD who were/are exclusively breastfed. Perhaps cause I live in AZ?

Very possible. It's pretty standard to hear that all people living in Canada need a Vit D supplement. I was having an awful time remembering to give them to DD but our nurse wasn't too concerned because her need is relatively low (I didn't get it at first but it's because of her colouring.)
ETA: I don't know if I mentioned this, but she's lost her Italian skin tone. She's basically translucent like her brother and father.

So while DD is taking a bottle while I'm at work I don't think she is taking in enough. I had to go in late today but from about 9-4 she only took 6 oz. I obviously have no clue how much she takes in nursing but she nurses about every 3 hours during the day give or take. She isn't upset while I'm gone and I'm glad she isn't starving but I really wish she'd take in more. I'm nervous she will reverse cycle and keep me up all night to fill herself up.

This is me. I love watching her grow and develop but each milestone breaks my heart. DD has been rolling a few weeks now and she's gotten it down to an art.
Had anyone's LO sat up unassisted? Are we still too early for that?

M hold herself up for a few minutes without help, but she can't get there from laying down yet. Probably another month or so before she manages that. She's rolled once, but is refusing to repeat the trick.

Got one of the bathrooms (the main one) set up, put most of the dishes away, put the kids to bed... H is at his game, and I'm relaxing. For the first time in over a week I can find my wine, corkscrew, and wine glasses, but I have no interest in drinking tonight, my head hurts and I'm dehydrated.

DD1 was sitting unassisted by 4 months but hardly rolled over till she was crawling. DD2 is almost unassisted at sitting, of course not getting to that position, but rolling over more.

She must have been strong!!!
DD will be sitting in my lap holding my fingers with her hands and can pull herself to a standing position with no help from me other than to use my hands as leverage. She has rolled but doesn't do it often.

It's giving me major anxiety too - and she's a nurse??? Oy vey!
kcrkcs - my doctor gave us the green light to start cereal, but when I tried it with her it all just sort of fell back out of DD's mouth. So in the short term, I don't know how effective just cereal will be as a supplement. My vote is for formula, but then again I had low supply and dried up at 11 weeks. Good luck!
Vit D drops are recommended here for ebf babies, fwiw. newmomma8 you did a fantastic job. Every drop you gave Gray is huge. Lsquared, id probably get in trouble but id say something. I saw two men riding in a car w a little girl def not even 18 months in the backseat completely unrestrained. They had a ff car seat and you know what was in there? Shopping bags. We're not sitting up yet unassisted and ds is almost 6 months. He gets angry but it's getting better. He's trying to sit up on his own when lying down and loves to stand. Crawling is coming along too.
No sitting unassisted, she's barely making it in the bumbo. She kind of just slips to the side and falls over. She's happy on her belly though and is starting to roll around a bit and loves her toes!

She was/is very strong she was sitting unassisted at 4 months. Started crawling 2 days before 6 months but took till 11 months to walk without holding onto something, I think she was scared. DD2 will be 6 months on the 23rd and is almost sitting unassisted for a short amount of time.
