Haha whatttt super overshare!
Commiserations to everyone having family drama.
I have a WWYD,S16?
My MIL remarried last year (my FIL passed away in 2010). Her new husband is nice but we don't know him that well, since DH and his siblings are all adults and live in different cities it's definitely not a real 'step-dad' situation.
Our problem is with what to call him in relation to my kids. My MIL is 'Nana' and my parents are 'Granny and Grandpa' to both DD and my sister's kids. The problem is that MIL and her husband have decided (without consultation) that SFIL will also be 'Grandpa'. Now I'm not super comfortable about that since we don't really know him and in any case I don't want them both to be 'Grandpa' but don't want to cause drama and do want to be inclusive and avoid hurting MIL's feelings. We've just been avoiding calling him anything at all to prevent having to deal with it and hoping that they'd get the hint but they haven't so far and my MIL always refers to her husband as 'Grandpa'. I'd be more comfortable with something like 'Poppa' or 'Poppa Pete' but don't know how to raise it with her. A complicating factor is that my SIL who has a son a bit younger than my DD seems to be fine with Grandpa and I'm worried I'm going to seem like a jerk if I bring it up.
Any suggestions for a tactful approach? Make DH speak to SIL/MIL about it? Just start referring to him as Poppa?
