Hi ladies! I wanted to type out LOs birth story for you before I forget! I figured timeline style will be best because it's most likely going to be long.
-6/3/16 4am I was in DDs bed because she had invaded mine about 2 hours prior and was being a bed hog. I had finally just gotten to sleep then felt a weird gush. I jumped right up and felt a BIG gush, went to the bathroom and realized this was definitely not pee! I walked the house for a bit seeing if I felt anything (which I didn't) and then woke up DH around 5.
-5-7ish wasn't feeling anything but still having random gushes of what was now slightly pinkish fluid. I was worried because this seemed to be a repeat of DS and I did not want any sort of induction (water broke with him and then nothing happened, so basically had to be induced).
Around 730 I started to feel something!
-8 called my MW to let her know what happened and told her I would keep her updated. Contractions continued to get stronger but still manageable.
-9 MW checked in and told me to rest. MY BIGGEST REGRET WAS NOT LISTENING TO THIS INSTRUCTION! of course I went into panic mode and cleaned everything I hadn't already and tied up any loose end I could find! I tried laying down for a bit but I think DH was a bit nervous so he kept coming in to check on me.
-11ish contractions were pretty strong so we decided to head to the hospital area since it's about 20 min from the house and off a highway that has terrible traffic at any given time. I figured once we got there I could get out and walk until I felt I was ready to be admitted.
We drove around the town and I had to pee so we stopped at CVS. The women's room was locked so DH stood watch outside the men's room while I did my thing. I had a sizable contraction in the men's room, and another one as we were walking out...to avoid scaring any of the customers I ducked into the laundry isle and held onto a bottle of tide lol!
We then drive to the hospital where I walked the grounds for a bit and went to Starbucks and got DH a sandwich. Contractions were between 8 and 10 min apart.
-2:00 contractions started to get closer so I called the MW who said to go ahead and admit myself.
-3:00 they had me in a room and had started setting up the inflatable tub (one permanent tub was down and the other tub room was being used). They monitored the baby for about 20 min. My MW and a student MW arrived around this time as well. As soon as the required monitoring time was up they let me get up to labor while they filled the tub. MW suggested laboring in the shower so I gave it a shot.
The shower felt really good and DH was such a sport putting pressure on my lower back for each contraction (getting soaked in the process). The shower was small so I found the best way to labor was hands and knees, my head sort of wedged in the corner and my feet against the wall so I had something to press against. There was a grey and white stone pattern in the shower and one random black stone I will never forget that stone! It was my focus point.
-4 tub was ready so I was given the ok to get in so I did! I started in a squatting position and they ran warm water over my back which felt really good for a while until I started getting really hot. DH got me my instant ice packs for some relief (ladies who still have inside babies, get them for your go bag!!! Those suckers are amazing when you are on fire from labor!!!)
-4:15ish I was given the ok to push if I felt the urge. I went ahead and tried. It felt so good to do something other than just get through the pain of each contraction. At this point I was so tired the time between contractions it was almost like being in a trance or a dream. I started off in a squatting position basically hugging DH but I eventually flipped to my back. The back position was more ideal for pushing but so frustrating because an inflatable pool has no place to dig in your heels/feet so kept slipping. I felt like I was making no progress and was afraid for bad news when my MW checked me. She said I was doing great and that the baby was actually still in her second bag of waters (who knew there were two!?) instead of breaking the second bag they decided to help stretch my cervix a bit more during my next contraction. As that contraction started I could feel her really come down and start her way out. Once it ended it felt as though she retracted back and I let out a big "noooooooo don't go back!!!"
This just made me more determined! The next push I went overboard and she started to come out very fast. My midwives told me to wait for the next contraction to push. This was seriously the most painful thing I have ever experienced I was terrified but my MWs talked me through it. Next push her head was out, bag still unbroken. Next push and she came out like a rocket (bag burst at the same time she didn't cry, just let out a little squeak! She had the chord wrapped around her torso and neck loosely so they unwrapped it and before they put her on my chest told me to turn her so we could find out if it was a boy or girl. We were INCREDIBLY surprised! This whole time we really thought it was a boy this whole time!
She came to my chest and we did skin to skin while the chord finished pulsating. Before they cut the chord the MW took her by the back of the head and floated her around the tub a bit. She loved it! Even crossed her legs like she was lounging by the beach or something. We had a birth photographer so I can't wait to see those pictures!
I got out of the tub and Tge nurse and DH measured her and took all her stats while I got a stitch for a small tear.
I was very dehydrated and my heart rate/blood pressure took a while to regulate.
I think that's about it!
No medication, my MWs never told me how dilated I was or anything like that which was great IMO because I never felt rushed or disappointed in my progress.
Recovery has been rough so far. I'm in a good amount of pain but coping the best I can.
My little mouse Marley is so perfect I would not trade any of this for the world!
