Ok so I know I am 100% over thinking this, but the Britax Marathon Clicktight is on sale for a fantastic price until Thursday. I am trying to decide between this and the Peg Perego convertible.
Can anyone attest to these seats personally? I am reading (and recalling from some discussion here) that the Marathon isn't great for tall kids and doesn't have fantastic length with either the straps or the crotch buckle. Is there any merit to this? Does anyone have the Peg convertible (maybe andtheheartbreakers)?
I don't have either but did you check out car seats for the littles page on Facebook? I bet if you search the names of the seats, some good info will come up.
Regarding the Marathon, the crotch buckle is shorter than average. I don't know if this will be an issue in the future, but it doesn't bother me now. The reviews that I read regarding the straps being too short are from people didn't read the manual about lenthenning the harness as your child gets taller. They are not the brightest crayons in the box, those reviewers.
Britax has a bit less leg room than some others, but kids adapt the way they sit to the seats, and no seat offers copious legroom while rear facing. I believe the Peg is a good choice as well, so I wouldn't stress too much about it.

Ugh. I have the entries for both seats on CSFTL memorized basically.
I sympathize with your plight, as I have a 90th percentile kid in a 10th percentile car. No seat is perfect. I had decided on a CT Boulevard and was just looking up colours when I saw the sale on the CT Marathons. I can tell you that for that price I felt damn good about my purchase. He still has a lot of rear-facing room to grow.
I have a both a Britax and a Peg Perego for our toddler, and in terms of ease of use, I prefer the Peg Perego. Straps on the Britax are hard to use. I don't know what models they are...I could go check but I've already exercised today
I also looooove my Britax boulevards for both girls. I just got the click tight for M and it's so nice! I really, really love that it actually clicks when the straps are tight enough. This is an amazing feature for grandparents and Glen, who struggle to pass the pinch fest.
As for straps and height issues - A is 3 and perfectly average and we still have lots of strap length left. She's no where near the top of the seat and for crotch strap is fine. I did even know there was a complaint about the crotch strap, to be honest.
We also have a Graco and evenflo and the Britax is so much better. If Glen would have been ok with spending the money, we'd have 4 Britax.
We have the Marathon or Boulevard (whichever is the higher 'trim' level) sitting in our basement right now. We got it from a screaming deal during a Kohl's new year sale (AND got Kohl's cash on top of it). Pretty much stole it. It seems nice, but of course we haven't used it yet. I have to say to feels way nicer than our Graco Snugride bucket. I get jealous of these really nice infant car seats I see people hauling or when I'm in a baby store, and then I look at the price tag and go, "no thanks!" I still wish I could have convinced H to get a nicer infant seat, like the Keyfit or Britax.
Since both seats you're looking at are nice, I'd either get the cheaper one, or if you're worried about length, get the bigger one. If they're more or less the same or you don't think you have a basketball star on your hands and price is comparable, get the prettier one. Have you played with them in the store, had any hands on experience? We went to BRU when we were choosing car seats and hauled them all over the store, popped them in an our of their bases, tightened and loosened harnesses, etc. Our goal was simple install + lightweight + easy straps. I imagine you won't be popping a convertible in and out every day, but easy install and adjustments would still be high priority in my book.

+1 to trying the installation. I didn't do that with our Diono and it turns out I have to stand on it and do a deadlift to get it installed tight enough.
Having had 4 different cat seats, the Install on the Britax is so easy. Also, the state police officer who does the certified checks said Britax are the best for install and safety, and what she had for her own kids. This is what convinced Glen to get another for M.

I'm considering Britax for our second convertible seat, but I've read that hot babies get really sweaty in them. Have you had that problem?

nomnom - do you have a link about the hot babies and britax? I'm considering the boulevard but J gets so sweaty if he's in the car seat for too long. I haven't heard that before.

A is a very sweaty baby. We have AC in the house and he still wakes up with wet hair often.
Have you bought your car seat yet, London? I feel like we are your carseat support group and you need our tough love. They are both fine choices, my friend.

I am glad your struggle is over. I think you will like it. My favourite site for baby gear reviews (Baby Gear Lab) tested the top 10 selling convertibles on the market and the Marathon took first place. They are great because they bring a different focus and a different methodology to it. They do side by side testing in multiple vehicles, so it is a very direct comparison.
