The nights when pregnancy insomnia kicks in and I wake up so exhausted makes me cry at the thought of having a newborn, and terrified of having a newborn AND a toddler. Whaa. Give me all the caffeine. All of it, IV, STAT.
Speaking of toddler we need to break down and get some room darkening shades she is waking up too early for momma these days.
aggiebug I totally put a blanket up to C's window last week!
I am tempted! As in may happen today And really I can't complain because she usually sleeps until 7:30 so now it's before 7 which is still later than many toddlers. But man I was looking forward to a little quiet time this morning.
I'm sorry aggiebug , my puppy (the little dog) likes to wake up when the sun's up too! If I let them sleep on my bed, I may get to 7am!?!
AFM: The bachelorette and Rizzoli and Isles are not shows to watch before bed! Weird dream I was a cop on CSI: Cyber!?! They wanted me to use my super math brain to figure out a puzzle which the killer left as a clue. Instead of going home, I take the clue to a sports bar (I do like sports) and try to work it out there. Killer guy ends up at a table next to me. At some point said killer drugs me, and I fall for him! I don't remember having a drink at the bar (but it was a bar) and as much as I "love" him, I'm still trying to put him away. LOL
Hope you're feeling more awake aggiebug. The one dog is hardwired to go outside at 6 am and gets very loud if we ignore him. Fine on work days, but there are many weekends where it makes me want to just cry.

LOL yeah my dogs are obnoxious too. They know they have to stay on their bed and they get in trouble for whining but my old man will chatter his teeth and shake his head constantly. Bah. That starts when the sun comes up usually so about 5 am now. Punk dog
Morning! I spent the entire day at the courthouse yesterday. Was called in for jury duty and expected it would be about a car accident or something.
Turns out it was a murder trial. Anyways, I was the next to last possible juror so waited and waited and waited and at 5:15 they got their jury pool number and I was excused. I didn't even get to be interrogated by the reportedly over zealous defense attorney.
dashook how are juror numbers assigned anyways, is it random?
Oh wow, that's a long day.
Juror numbers are random, yes, both for the jury pool and then once you are seated (if you're seated). Are you bummed you didn't get selected or relieved? I've always wanted to be on a jury (but that will never happen haha).
We got so lucky with our dog. She will sleep in until noon if we do (which never actually happens but still). She eats breakfast early during the week but will wait on the weekends. Dinner is at 5pm sharp no matter what though.
About jury duty, I did get selected once and served on the jury. I don't think I could've done a murder trial though, no way. Too many concerns for them coming after me and nightmares about what I'd see.
Mine was a guy who slipped and fell on stairs in his employers workplace (a restaurant). The building is rented by the restaurant he works for. The stairs were so worn and broken and uneven and employees and management had complained to the property owner who did nothing but put tape on the stairs (making them more slick). The property owners tried to argue that they were only responsible for "permanent structures" and argued the stairs were not permanent structures. In the end we felt that (a) the stairs were permanent structures and (b) the owners accepting and acting on prior phone calls/complaints showed they believed the stairs were their responsibility and (c) applying a (lousy) fix to those stairs (tape) showed their responsibility and participation. It was a little tough because it was also a workers comp case but because of insurance the employee couldn't go after the employer so they went after the property owner.
The employee was awarded $178,000 due from property owner. His arm is mostly ok now but in bad weather he gets pains in it, if he plays guitar or holds his son too long he also gets pain in it.

This is like, the exact type of case I defend. We actually just settled a case with a slip and fall on stairs at a workplace, also with a workers comp lien. Same thing with the landlord applying vinyl tape to the stairs and everything. Except the stairs weren't slippery in this case but he said his foot got caught on the tape which caused him to fall backwards. He was full of shit lol
aggiebug L usually sleeps until 7:30, too. But with DH home it's been earlier because he gets up more like at 6 or 6:30. I'm hoping the move will eventually remedy that since her room will be more separate from ours. Right now she's directly across the hall. Tomorrow it'll be down a separate hall on the other side of the house.
cheshie6 My dog wakes up at like 5 every day. The cat will come in our room and sleep on the bed until DH gets up, but Jazz gets up and pants in your face, wanders around the room, and is generally annoying until he's fed. Neither of them will wait for dinner.
starbuck27 I was on a jury once for an aggravated assault case. It was about 3 days. No one asked me anything during selection, but afterward the degense attorney told me I was the next person he wanted to nix. I enjoyed the process. It was pretty interesting to see, but parts were super boring and the courtroom was freezing. Still, I'd do it again. A murder trial would freak me out too much, though. I'd have to excuse myself due to my anxiety and panic disorder. Eta: I should know more about the process, but I don't. My dad is a lawyer and I've worked court competitions with him, gone to his offices, talked about what he does, but I still can't tell you what it is he does exactly. Though he does admin law and now works for an energy company doing rate cases and I assume other things, so no trials.
Today we pack. That's all. I hate packing. I wish we had money and someone else would pack it for us.

That was the thing, like this guy already collected workers comp and medically even said he's fine. He left that job and is not currently working so we all were kind of "is he, or isn't he a dead beat, who knows"... It was hard to put emotions aside and go, yeah the issue is the property owner really didn't do a good job here and didn't have a good defense - just trying to say "no we weren't responsible", well then why did you put tape on them, why did you take their calls and come inspect it and try to fix it.
goldenlove3 that sounds just like our girls. The three of them are so incredibly good (in behavior and heart) compared to the two boys. Our dinner time is 6 and it's amazing how proficient they all are at telling time.
dashook My husband worked for a company that basically decides what something is worth for injury/wrongful death cases when we were in CO as an economist. He mostly prepared documents explaining why something was worth a certain amount. Then his boss testified as an expert to explain why a broken leg is worth x amount or whatever. They did other stuff, but medical things seemed to be the bulk of it. Sometimes he said it felt like they were helping people, but other times, most times, he didn't like it. Which is why he went back to teaching despite it being a pay cut.
kleigh, yeah, sounds like it's be pretty hard to argue there's no duty by the landlord, and nearly impossible to argue no notice. On cases like that we usually just have to attack the damages. In our case the guy had a lot of other serious medical issues so it was tough to figure out how much, if any, was a result of this fall (if he even did fall). ClassyMrsA, we use experts like that frequently!
I do lots of other kinds of cases besides slip and falls, btw. The case I'm sitting in a depo for at the moment is a construction defect case with 20+ third party defendants (including my client). Pretty dry but I am learning a lot about the industry. My guy does rock blasting so there's a lot of interesting geology stuff related to his work.
danib I'm so sorry. Childcare is really stressful and you so don't need that right now.
We have a sitter who picks DS up from daycare; we had one from August to December and then had to replace her in January and it was such a huge pain. When I hired our current sitter I asked her to commit until at least April (when we switched daycares) because I couldn't deal with searching and interviewing again so soon.
Fortunately she has decided to stay with us even though the new daycare is much further away for her. But even still, on the occasional days she can't come and I have to pick him up by 6:30, it throws a huge wrench in my work day. We really depend on this care arrangement.
Ugh I'm so sorry danib, how frustrating. It'll be nice for him to have quality time with his aunt though. I'm glad she's able to help for the time being.
What a fascinating job ClassyMrsA! I love learning about occupations that I never knew existed.
danib, What is up with these babysitters? Do they have good reasons to quit? My sister is struggling with the same thing. Some are just bad sitters and some just couldn't balance their lives. I'm curious about this!
danib Love-tit for support, I'm so sorry about the bad luck with sitters.
aggiebug I am about to order black-out drapes from PBK for DS's room, cannot handle early wake-ups. His old bedroom was nice and dark, but the new bedroom has a double-width Palladian window; there are wood blinds on the majority of the window but the arch at the top is uncovered. He woke up at 5:30 this a.m., and I lay down with him and convinced him it was still nighttime until 6:30, when it started getting light outside, and he was like, "Not dark, mama! Wake up!" Thanks, kiddo.
(Fortunately he got into my bed to watch cartoons and fell back asleep for a couple hours).
I have only been called for jury duty once, and I was away at college, so I just had to mail the form back.
My poor mom gets called all. the. time., but her father was a policeman, and that question inevitably comes up, so she is always promptly rejected by the defense, lol.
Not much on our agenda today, just some errands. The tropical storm blew through but the weather is still kind of gross today.
My MIL made curtains for M's room and attached the black out curtain to the fabric. It helped tremendously. Now I need her to do that for my room and 2.0's room.
I made DD's curtains and I used, What I was told was, black out backing. They are definitely darkening but not black out.
I will pay out 1 million dollars if anyone can get rid of this headache I've had for 4 days. Any takers?
I take it you tried a little coffee (caffeinated)? When I started getting them a few weeks ago someone here suggested that and it has worked like a charm every time - I usually only need two or three sips.

Am I the only one who has started their registry (if you're doing one)? I'm thinking about starting a thread to get registry advice from the BTDT moms.

I started mine on Amazon. It's private because I'm a STM, but you're not alone
