We're still half assing it lol. Dd knows when she's wet, knows how to hold it, loves her diapers. On our 11 hour drive (should have been 6) she was dry the entire time and used a public restroom twice. She's now back to peeing in her diaper. Someday when we're home I'll have to take away diapers and push her, but I don't wanna.
bliz1712 I've mentioned it before, but dd is on a daily dose of miralax and it's been great for her. When she's getting it regularly, she poops everyday and is comfortable, and goes on the toilet. When I forget to give it to her, her stools get really hard, and it hurts her so she doesn't go, and will refuse the toilet because it hurts...then she usually waits until she has privacy to work out her issues in her crib.
haykay13, DD1 is still in diapers at nap and bedtime. She does not have control of her bladder when she's asleep yet. But I have friends who have newly three year old who are night trained. It all depends on the kid, as does everything
No diapers at nap. She'll use it if it's on and will hold it if it's not.
Still wearing a diaper at night but it's dry 95% of the time.
It's really her. My niece is 3.5 and still has occasion accidents, especially at night but she drinks a lot; it's hard to get DD to drink much.
My doctor said 39 months is average for potty trained.
FYI for those interested, day 2 and we had 3 accidents and at least 2 were our fault. The second two were during dinner, first one he mentioned he had to go but wanted to finish eating. I should have made him stop. Second one he grabbed his water on the way and I told him to have a drink then sit and he peed while drinking.
We also went out for about 45 minutes and he stayed dry! We are getting there.
Thank you to everyone that gave tips. I sometimes wonder how I would survive parenthood without this board!

+1 for half-assing it. Just don't see the 3-day or other similar method being possible in our life until probably summer which is far away (and this past summer she was totally not ready). She will often, but not always pee on the potty. She usually does not very her pull up overnight or during naps which I hope will continue when her daytime behavior makes the switch to underwear possible.
She absolutely will not, will not, poop on the potty (or big toilet), though! And her stools are not hard (usually the opposite) and she never seems uncomfortable when pooping. But even for a bribe (promise of treats definitely motivated her to pee on the toilet) she will not poop on the potty. A few times she has tried because she wants the promised reward, (and been upset she isn't able to poop)earn reward) but only when she doesn't really need to poop. When she is even close to needing to go, though, will not sit on toilet for anything at all.
Memorial Day weekend when the kids are about the turn 3 is probably a good time since it's warm but then you have to worry about swimming and the pool and swim diapers and my DS found that pretty confusing last August when we started. Just something to think about as well. The 3 day thing is just a start but it still on going so just start whenever you want.

Lol to swimming memorial day weekend here! Or even running around with no pants. Once in a while it's warmish (60s, maybe 70s but rare) but 40's, maybe 50s and cloudy/rainy is more common.
Sounds like a good plan for most of the rest of the country though.

haykay13 we PT in June and still use pullups at night. It's really not a hassle since they go on like underwear. He's dry in the morning 90% of the time, but if it saves me even one night a month of having to get up in the MOTN to change sheets, it's worth it.
We don't use them for nap anymore. Hes fine at DC, but he will occasionally have a nap time accident at home if he takes an abnormally long nap, or naps at a different time than normal.

We're PTing now. We started early last week and it didn't start getting better till like day 5. She's had one accident at school so far so that's good. But she's also refusing to poop on the potty. Every time it happens I remind her poop goes in the potty, not her panties and she just shakes her head and says "nope." Oh. Ok. 🙄

I'm not sure if I'd recommend it but my daycare lady had DD help clean the underwear and she hasn't pooped in them since.

I'm not sure how she "helped" though.
I wish that was an option but our daycare throws away underwear that aren't easily cleaned. (Unless we offer to clean them after we pick them up, but ew) Im just happy with her telling us she has to pee now. We tried PTing during the summer and it was an epic fail.

Mine never sends dirty stuff home, so she cleans it and she initiated the potty training. We lucked out!

I was kinda surprised when she told me they normally throw them out but I guess I'd do the same thing if I had 8 kids PTing at the same time
DS is showing some interest again but I'm not getting my hopes up too much. The past couple times he's gotten in the bath and started peeing he's been very upset telling me he peed, then wants to sit on the potty to "go" he hasn't actually gone on the potty but at least he wants to sit on it!!
Another question. For those who have succeeded with PT earlier this year are your kids still wearing diapers at night? I was a little discouraged when my SIL was here for Christmas and told me it was going to be my niece's last night in a diaper. They did the 3 day method in November 2015 and were successful and my niece is over 3.5yrs now. I really don't want to still be dealing with diapers when DS is 4 years old if I wait any longer to really start potty training. 😐
DD1 potty trained at 2.5yo, but she was still in diapers at night until a few months after she turned 3

Any ideas?
DD1 also refused to poop on the potty. She was pee trained at 2.5 but didn't poop in the toilet until she was 3yo. We didn't push her, so I don't really have any advice, just wanted to let you know that eventually they will grow out of it. Every so often I would ask her if she would go poop on the toilet, (and after many many no's) one day she said okay, pooped in the toilet and never went back.

Okay so here I am back on here after being Miss We have potty training down... DD has been dry and wearing panties all the time for several months now. I used to put pull ups on her for nap but stopped like a month and half ago with no issues. Suddenly this week not one but twice now she has woken up in a bed full of pee. Now that it's happened a second time in a week I'm wondering if should backtrack back to pull ups or what? Any thoughts/experience?
jennyinheaven I don't consider using pull ups as bad to the process when it is for naps or overnight. It sounds like a normal regression and we have those too. Peyton was doing great and then started pooping in her pants every day after visiting with my parents. We got back on track and now she is slipping again.
I read to just not make a big deal out of it and let them know to keep telling you when they need to go. She has done better since Santa brought her new Frozen underwear in her stocking and I literally said "Remember, don't pee on Elsa. She doesn't like that" Lol at that but seriously worked and she doesn't like to get Elsa dirty!

Was it naptime? Was there anything unusual about those naps? Longer than normal? At a different time? We don't use pullups at nap and he's fine at daycare when everything is super routine, but sometimes he has accidents on the weekends and I blame it on napping later or longer.
We do still use pullups at night and he is dry most mornings, but two nights this week he peed so much it overflowed and soaked his PJs. I have no intention of stopping until I see several consecutive weeks of waking up dry.

@jobhub it was naptime. DD doesn't go to daycare so her nap is the same everyday. She has had a cold though and slept extra long in the two days she had accidents.
DS is starting to pee on the potty at DC. When I asked him today about it, he was all proud and then said "no fall in the potty." Lol So maybe we need to start really trying soon.

Go for it! I'm happy to report after our 4 day weekend he's been doing great. He's had a few accidents at school but they said it's completely normal and encouraged me to keep at it. Today he's had no accidents (so far) and pooped on the potty with the bribe of a new train for his table and some m&ms. Now we need to start venturing out of the house for errands etc.

I've learned he responds well to bribes.
Our next 3 day weekend is President's day so maybe I'll give it a shot then.

This is probably not what is happening with your kid because she is still new at it. But with DD1 when she started wetting the bed again it was because she had a UTI (she hadnt had an accident for a year at that point, then all of a sudden 2 accidents in one day and wet the bed overnight) . Just something to keep in mind if she has a fever or seems to be in pain.

It might just be because she was sleeping longer than normal. I wouldn't panic. I might use pullups for nap until she gets over her cold if you think it won't mess up her progress.
J peed on the potty for the first time last night. So I decided to start potty training today. Put the kid in underwear. He pees his pants, and the weirdo doesn't mind that he's sitting in wet underwear. WTF? I thought the feeling of wetness would help him understand and ya know not like the feeling. Now I'm at a loss for trying to make him understand if he doesn't mind the wet feeling.

Last weekend we did straight underwear for DD, same thing, didn't care at all to be wearing soaking wet underwear and pants. So frustrating

What's your plan of action now? Will you wait to train?

For now I'll keep trying on the weekends. I let her wear the underwear but she goes to pull ups once all the underwear are all dirty. I keep trying to tell her that her body will tell her when she needs to potty or trying to tell her to hold it but she doesn't seem to get either concept. I have her sit and try between cartoons, around every half hour, but she sits for two seconds then decides she's done. I've tried books and videos but nothing helps keep her there longer. I'm at a loss. I'll keep trying the underwear because she's excited about them but not pushing anything.
