So it looks like insurance completely covers the Pump In Style Advanced Breastpump Starter Set, or it partially covers (I pay the rest) for the Pump In Style Advanced On-the-go Tote, PISA Backpack, or Freestyle.
For non-FTMs - do you think having the pump be permanently attached to the bag (like with Tote or Backpack) would be annoying at times? The PISA Starter Set comes with nothing extra, so I'd have to buy a bag to put it in, a bottle cooler, and all the necessary accessories. The Freestyle is a lot more, but is a small portable unit and comes with a bag, cooler, and all the accessories.
Obviously I need to decide what I think would be most handy for me, but I was just curious on thoughts between the different options. Pictures below for reference.
Starter Kit:
PISA Tote (backpack is similar but a backpack instead of a tote bag):
Freestyle:
I just left the pump at work and syowed the bottles and freezer packs in a lunch tote at my desk, no need to have a fancy bag.
On that note....are STMs replacing bottles? Like I said...my bottles were really hardly used but I feel like some of them look a little cloudy. I'm assuming I should just buy new ones?
I'm just going to reuse everything after a good sterilization.
I used the medela freestyle for DS. I was very hard on it (traveling a lot for work) and it stood up great. It actually died at 13 months - but I seriously did a number on that thing. However, their customer service is amazing! They replaced it with a new one for free.
The hospital I delivered at have out Medela PIS or PISA, I forget which, but that's what I got. I hated it, to be honest. I felt like I was constantly replacing the membranes and tubing because it was losing suction, and I didn't even use it as much as some people do. I should find out what my insurance covers this time, but since I'm not working now I might just pick up a manual and see if that works better.
I preferred the lansinoh manual pump to the medela pisa, I even bought two extra and could still double pump. I liked not having to hear that loud electric pump and I could relax more. I pumped till lo was 14 months.
I agree to the lansinoh manual being better. I didn't use the manual all that often but the lansinoh one was much easier to use.

I'm late to this thread but I'll echo what unringthebell said. Breast pumps are designed for one kid. After that they begin to lose the suction that you need to effectively express. If your insurance is covering a new one (which all US companies should), I would get another one. You can always use the new one as your primary and then replace the tubing in your old one as a backup.
I wish I could weigh in on pump types but I never responded well to the pump so I didn't use mine regularly.
