It has been A MORNING in the bells household. One child or the other, and often both, have been crying for the better part of 2.5 hours. And this is with the nanny here to help.
The most stubborn toddler in the world is now off to the park and baby is back on the boob.
We had a weight check this morning. 11 days old and 2oz over birth weight. I have a piggy bear! She's still a little jaundice but it's in her face and neck and the doc said no need to run numbers since it's not to her tummy and legs. She just said if I think it gets to her legs to call. She said it's called breastfeeding jaundice and it will go away slowly.
Also she flipped her to her belly and P put her head down and got really relaxed. The doc said if you want to nap her on her tummy sometimes it's fine. She said as long as you're watching her and not doing it overnight it's fine and they usually sleep better and allows you to get more done. bighair12 since I think it was you that just said this yesterday

manybellsdown sorry a bout your morning. It's been a good one in my household. Woke up at 9:15am ( went to bed at 7am) woke up before LO so I managed to have breakfast. Currently we are nursing again but I have already showered #winning
Today is going pretty well so far. DD is a really good eater and doesn't take an hour each time like her brother did. She had a pretty good night of sleep too.
I was happy to spend a really good 1.5 hours with DS this morning. I really needed that because last night I tried to put him to bed and it did not go well. I know others have mentioned this, but it's so hard when your big kid rejects you and wants the other parent instead. I would have really ugly cried if DS had rejected me this morning too, but luckily he did not.

My parents left yesterday and DS1 is heading back to school today. DH,LO, and I will probably return some things at various stores today and then go to target and maybe the grocery store. I'm praying DS has a good day at school and we are letting the director know about grandparents leaving, baby brother, and the loss of our dog so she's aware he's going through a lot of transition for a 4 year old so they can help as needed.
I'm going to go to the store to get stuff to make a few meals for next week. I want the sun to come out so I can go in the pool.
Side note: why don't people read? DH works from home, and our dog stays out with him. He flips out when the doorbell rings, so we are those people with a sign near the doorbell saying please don't ring. Nope, some woman just rang it, dog flipped out of course. I just opened the door, asked her if she saw the sign, and then closed it. Rude I know, but geez, read! It's right next to the doorbell!
babyzebra, glad you got some one on one time with your DS. My DS seems to now ask for whichever parent is obviously busy with the baby, i feel bad always having to dismiss him because of the baby, I also think he's testing us sometimes.
This morning DS built a 4ft castle with his magnatiles in the living room and was happily showing it off to me while the baby was being content on her play mat (for all of the 5 min that will last). Happy moment ruined by our cat who came in, immediately knocked down the castle which caused both kids to start crying. Thanks a bunch cat.
Yay for a good weight check nymama917! DD had breastfeeding jaundice, but it definitely resolved itself without issue. Hopefully the same goes for your LO!
princessisadora breakfast and a shower! You are totally winning
babyzebra so glad you got some good time in with DS!
We are having a lazy morning snuggling on the couch. She had an awesome 5 hr stretch and then she went back to sleep after eating but I tossed and turned before I gave up and did laundry so now I am rewarding myself with cuddle time.
sandandsea, that is a lot of transition, hope your DS has a good day. My DS had a few first days back after the baby where his teachers said he was a little sad and didn't want to play as much as usual, they gave him some extra love that week and he bounced right back. After a couple of weeks I brought the baby to his school for his morning drop off and he was so excited and proud to show her off.
Kevinmac that's one of my pet peeves too. My neighborhood is clearly marked as "no soliciting" and the owner of our house put a similar sign near the door. When someone knocks who is trying to sell me something, I just open my door and let the 115 pound slobbery beast come lumbering through the doorway. He's truly a gentle giant, but they don't know that. I don't get too many repeat offenders.
Another rough bedtime for DS1 last night. So we are going to do the toddler bed transition. I hope this does the trick. I just feel awful that he is so upset at bedtime. FX tonight is better and the transition is smooth.
DS2 was up every 3 hrs to feed last night. I'll take it! Better than every 2 hrs. We are headed in the right direction and I feel pretty good today. I'm a light sleeper and I think I'm getting used to sleeping through his grunts and other noises.
It's really nice out today. MH goes back to work tomorrow so I think we will try to do something outside this afternoon.
Kevinmac I'm thinking about getting this sign (not that people will read it!!) once the LO arrives the barking dogs will likely become even more annoying!
csat magnatiles are my absolute favorite toy! We have lots of tears when towers get knocked down, but that's usually by our 3 year old.
I took the girls to their gymnastics classes this morning and we are now on our way to hometown (1 hr away) for my dads retirement reception. He taught dental/hygiene students for the last 34 years. It's going to be strange. Having 2 retired parents will be so nice!
nymama917, I've been doing tummy naps also, I just make sure to check on her a lot or do it when I'm sitting right there. She's so much more comfortable!
manybellsdown, sounds like our day-so much crying and whining between the toddler and the baby. It's so hard adjusting my brain to, "This is our new normal and it's okay..."
babyzebra, DD is also a much more efficient eater than DS was...I am very thankful for that! It's like they just know we have their big brother to chase so they need to hurry!
Today has been insane, but I'm slowly learning than insanity is maybe our new normal. I really don't think I can stay in the house all day every day, I think I would get depressed. However, today I went to Bible study with both kids, and it was a disaster. DS fell twice and scraped his knees, spilled a water bottle on himself, screamed and cried the entire way there and back. DD has been pretty fussy today, fussed the entire Bible study and I ended up in another room trying to nurse her/calm her down. It's nice to have childcare once we get there and DS enjoys playing with his friends, but I got home wondering if it is even worth it. Oh, we also had to drive 45 minutes because we live in a suburb of Dallas, so it's just crazy. Thankfully, I got a Starbucks on my way. I had to have someone help me in and help me out with both kids. I really don't know how people do this. I had DD in the K'tan and had thought everything through, but then DS wanted me to hold him after he fell, so that plan didn't work.
I wanted to get some housework done today during nap time, but DD pretty much refuses to be put down, so I am trying to enjoy sitting here on TCF with her snuggling on my chest. This is such a short season of life and I am trying to enjoy it and be thankful, even on days when I just want to complain to my DH all day who is out to lunch with adults while I'm dealing with all of this.
DD is definitely waking up out of the newborn phase. She is still pretty laid back, but really hasn't been fussy at all until now (thank goodness because my toddler fusses enough for the both of them and then some).
Another random. We bought a box of huggies and pampers newborn diapers and it seems the huggies run smaller. And I think I prefer the pampers.
That's funny. We find the Huggies to be larger but just in the leg gussets. Which might be because she has no fat on her legs. But, do like the Pampers way better. I am using the Honest Co. ones now and I don't really like them at all.
manybellsdown sounds like our morning. DD1 would not go to sleep last night and then woke before 6 just as I got the baby back to sleep. She was so grumpy and baby girl didn't sleep long and was not wanting to be put down. This of course caused more of a problem with DD1 because she's starting to get jealous. Lots of crying and a time out. Hopefully things have gotten better for you!
Also this sleep deprivation this time around is no joke! I could go back to sleep before but now I can't and I just took a nap and didn't hear DD1 wake up crying. Thankfully DH was here. The monitor was right by my head. Makes me nervous about napping now when he's back to work!

Yeah maybe that's it...the leg holes are bigger in the huggies but the diaper itself is shorter and has a smaller waist? The pampers seem to fit better for us and DS1 used pampers exclusively so we will probably just stick to those once we use up our boxes we currently have. I do have a box of Luvs in size 1 so we will try those later. I had samples of the honest ones and wasn't a huge fan.

Glad to hear how many others are doing belly naps. LO sleeps so much better. We do put her on her back for night sleep and she does okay until after her 4/5am feed at which point she starts getting super grunty.
Also solidarity to those with challenging toddlers. Right now taking care of the newborn is a breeze in comparison.

txmommy14 I'm so lucky my H is off work for the summer (teacher) the idea of taking both kids out alone terrifies me. You really deserve that Starbucks. Amd a glass of wine

Omg. I just tried to change L's diaper. When I reached into the diaper caddy there was a HUGE spider in it. Like quarter sized. After I got done shitting myself, I flipped the whole thing into a trash bag, sealed it up and threw it outside. DH is on the phone with the pest control people now. I am dead though.
Re: diaper talk. So far I don't have a super strong preference but I think I like Huggies snugglers best. I don't mind luvs but I wish they had the blue line indicator thing. Pampers are good too but if I'm not careful to make sure they're on her just right I've had a couple blowouts up the back in those. Huggies do seem much shorter but I like how soft they are and I've only had one leak and that was overnight. All that said, I will probably just stick to what's on sale.
