Potty Training Question for Moms of Boys

My Aug15 babies will be headed to preschool in August (seems hard to believe!). DS is fully potty trained and learned to pee on the toilet sitting down. At what point do boys start peeing standing up? Is this something he should know how to do before starting preschool? Do your sons pee sitting down or standing up?

My boys started standing when they were tall enough to get it in the toilet. But looking back, I wish I would have made a "you must sit" rule until they were like seven. Boys pee EVERYWHERE and around the toilet gets nasty. With DS3 I will keep him sitting as long as possible.

I would try for sitting as long as possible as well... My feb son went through a phase a month ago that involves "peeing like daddy" which required me to clean the bathroom everytime he went. He eventually figured it out, but it was not fun.

I make him sit at home - I don't want to clean up pee. I tell him he can stand at school if the teacher says it's ok.

I'll let him stand at home when he can get it in reliably. That will probably be at age 15

We actually trained him to stand from the beginning. The only time he pees when sitting is when pooping at the same time lol It has worked for us lol

He goes back and forth. I wanted him to stand in public so we didn't have to worry about him touching the dirty toilets. If he goes into our bathroom with H he stands, with me in there he sits. It really just depends on the day and what he's wearing.

DS learned to pee standing from watching other kids at daycare. He actually has really good aim - if he misses the potty, it's because he means to.

DS sits to pee. He actually doesn't know that standing is even a thing. I suppose when he starts preschool in September he'll see other boys standing and want to do the same. I'm going to dissuade it at home for a few more years though.

In the US there's a whole thing about men not putting the toilet seat down. In Germany it's men sitting down. If they sit down to pee, they're considered polite and well-mannered. If they stand, it's the equivalent of leaving the seat up. Inconsiderate and annoying. There are actually decals on lots of toilets with a no standing graphic. The previous owners of our house put them in ours, actually, and I can't get them off. I'll take a pic and post it. On that note, does anyone have any suggestions for getting it off?

I've tried vinegar, and that just scrubbed off enough to now make it look not only tacky but also worn. Cool.

DH still sits down to pee. He did t once while we were dating and I was all, "yup. That's how you're going to pee now."

Omg that sign is too much!

It's funny how different cultural norms can be - I've never heard it is rude for men to stand to pee in other countries!!
