bgkc4- that's annoying! I like to point out how sometimes things that used to be done aren't best practice anymore and we know better now. I like to use seat belts as an extreme example. Sure 50 years they weren't in cars and people drove fine, but a lot more people are safer using them.
bgkc4 ... Screw them. You and your pediatrician are the ink ones whose opinions counts. Let every word everyone else says go in one ear and right out the other.
Thanks. I know they mean well, and I don't think feeding the LO more milk, or giving her cereal at night would be detrimental, but I hate that they want to pressure me into doing things their way, instead of encouraging and supporting the decisions I make. SaveSave
The cereal thing actually could hurt in the long run. It's one of the reasons it's no longer recommended. Baby's gut isn't fully developed and it could lead to gastrointestinal problems later in life since their systems aren't equipped to handle it.
bighair12 have a wonderful trip!! Good luck with the drive!
Stringy I would say it was after her 6 week spurt she started stretching daytime feedings out, but honestly she is still pretty erratic at this point (8 weeks today!). But every baby is different, right?! Yours could start sooner!
bgkc4 My mom and MIL are super opinionated as well (even though they do mean well) and I totally get how hard it is as a FTM not to feel overwhelmed by others opinions. I'm so sorry they are pressuring you. You don't need that stress. MH likes to repeatedly say to me "you are the mom" so anytime other people are giving me opinions I don't need to hear I say that to myself like a little mantra. You are doing an awesome job and You are her mom not them!
Sending you so much strength and patience to get thru next week babyzebra!! I am in awe of anyone doing this alone as well!
mladerri good luck!!! You will survive! FX for a smooth weekend.
frecklesnbrains I put DD in the bathroom as well and between the fan and the water she usually sits pretty chill or dozes until I get out. She always seems to know when I get out so I have become a speedy dresser!
We are going on our longest car ride with both kids. It's about six hours to Yellowstone. We are leaving this afternoon. I know we are going to have to stop and nurse a few times. But, I am nervous if the baby cries and this taking forever.
So curious to hear how this goes. We're doing a 9-hour drive (over 2 days) in a few weeks, and I'm nervous. Good luck, and have fun in Yellowstone!

Yes, bgkc4, I was going to say something similar. It might actually hurt. Baby's guts are so immature. And cereal has approximately zero nutrients.
Also I'm so annoyed for you with the eye rolls. Next time they start in with "we did it and we're fine" (honestly one of the most illogical points in all of parenting advice history), I suggest rolling your eyes right back. And why are they even commenting on the bottle size if baby isn't unhappy? What? I'm so sorry.
Oh man that's another 3 weeks. I never leave the couch!
My thoughts exactly! I can get to every 3 hours at night (if lucky), but daytime is another story. We can do it?
Yea I shouldn't complain cuz I get it at night too. Ish. But I can't even get dishes put away around here during the day. It won't last forever. It can't.
It is hot here and LO is not a fan. I pat him down with a cool paper towel from time to time and he has a fan on him, but he still seems uncomfortable.

bgkc4 I'm sorry. I totally understand, I felt like everyone was telling me how to be a mom with my first and I just wanted to do it my way. Even now DS is almost two and I still get plenty of comments. My response now is " if you don't have a degree in pediatric medicine or early childhood development I don't want to hear it" shuts mil right up.

THIS.
If your advice ends with "...and I/my kids turned out fine!" then your advice is automatically discredited. #sorrynotsorry

csat we have/had pretty bad baby acne. Her chin was a mess. It's cleared up a lot. I just wipe her face down really well with a warm, damp cloth before bed every night.
vivela I have a hot baby too. She get shockingly sweaty! Anyone have any advice for this?

Thanks for the idea of bringing the baby into the bathroom folks! Unfortunately it won't work in our tiny city bathroom. There is only enough room for the door to open and close between the toilet and the wall. I could theoretically put him in the hall outside the bathroom, but it's tough. I guess I'll just keep taking my chances. I've done it many times (showered while he's sleeping) but today was just the first time he woke up.
csat - lots of acne here too. She also has some on her neck and chest. at her one month check up, the pedi confirmed its acne - not a rash. She said she also has some on her head. She said it should clear up around 6w old.

My LO had awful acne - his whole entire face was inflamed. I felt awful but knew it bothered me more than him. It peaked at about 4 weeks and is now almost entirely gone (he's 6.5 weeks)

After all my every-hour feeds this morning, baby is actually taking a really sweet afternoon nap right now. I'm pretty bummed that I couldn't predict the future when it started and didn't take a nap myself. Why is sleep so great, and when can I have more?
Guys, nobody make any sudden movements... I gave the baby a bath 15 minutes ago and he has not pooped, peed, or spit up on himself. He is in a little white onesie and looks so cute and clean!

csat DD had a ton of acne until about 5 weeks and then it started to clear up.
carolinaheart when DD gets too hot she screams, so we bought a giant fan... It is not very attractive, but we stand her in front of it occasionally and she totally calms down. We keep it in our room at night and actually it is nice white noise.
Well dinner/bedtime went exactly as it should when I'm by myself. Someone brought us sushi for dinner and ds1 could only eat the avocado roll so he was still hungry so I ended up having to make him dinner after all. Ds2 was starving and needed to eat the entire dinner so I was breastfeeding while eating. Ds1 decided he had to pee on the toilet (he was wearing a pull up) so I took him to the bathroom mid dinner (with ds2 still screaming for food). He had no pee then didn't want his diaper on, only his shorts. We finished dinner then ds1 decided to poop in his shorts. They were loose so poop came falling out everywhere. I put the ergo on and rocked baby to sleep so I could clean up the poop. I thought I was safe to lay baby down and start bath. Of course he woke up immediately. So back in ergo and we finished bath. The rest of bedtime consisted of wearing baby in ergo, reading stories and telling ds id be back after baby was asleep. I got baby back to sleep now I'm taking a moment to myself before going back in ds' room for final good night. It's only 7:50 so baby will wake up once more before his long stretch. Waiting till after that to have my beer. Only 3 more nights....
Thanks ladies. Dh just face timed me and I filled him in on my night. I laughed and was happy I could laugh about it. With ds1 I would've been in tears screaming at dh for leaving me alone. I'm thankful to know that it's just a couple rough hours and tomorrow is a new day and ds1 will go to preschool

Lol. My mom does have a degree in early childhood development. They must teach you to leave new moms alone because I haven't heard a peep from her on what I'm doing wrong.

My mom has an ECD degree too. She only offers when I ask.
