What car seats are your kids in right now? Will is about to outgrow the infant carrier so I was going to switch him to the convertible and Patrick to a booster with back and seatbelt. My pedi said this morning that the new recommendation is to keep them in a 5 pt seat as long as possible. I don't want to buy another convertible. I just assumed the booster was next. What are you guys doing?

My kids are peanuts so Ben is definitely not ready for the high back booster. Our convertible goes up to like 60lbs as the 5 pt harness and also can be used as a booster after so I think if you got a second one it would last a long time still.
I just looked over the stats again to make sure but it says that he must be at least 4 yrs old, 30-100 pounds ( he is 40), and 36-57 inches tall (he is 45"). So based in this, it's ok for him to use right? I'm worried Ll of a sudden that I got the wrong one.

Riley is in convertible seats in both of our cars. In my car she's still RF (we have a Diono with a high weight limit) and in H's car she's FF but with the 5 point harness yet. We're waiting until she outgrows each stage before moving her to the next. We're going to start our search over entirely for the next kiddo though since seats have changed so much in the past 4 years.

We just switched Matthew to the Britax frontier. It's a high back booster with 5 point harness and converts to without the harness and then without the back eventually. They should be "mature" enough to not need the harness, which most say is usually around 5 or 6 because they have to be able to sit without slouching or leaning over. That's why it's recommended for 5 point harness longer.

We have the frontier too. Aubrey is in hers harnessed and Shane uses his as a high back booster. We originally bought them for Shane and liked them so much we switched Aubrey when she was big enough.
We're like britbrat, I have a FF only seat that's a 5 point harness that will convert to a high back booster. We have the Britax Frontier and the harness limit is 90lb. I don't think we'll use it that long, but I plan to have him harnessed probably at least through kindergarten. Aside from hitting the weight/height requirements, kids are also supposed to be mature enough to sit correctly 100% of the time, and old enough that they won't slump if they fall asleep in the car.
Hanna is in the Graco nautilus with 5 point and will be using until we move to the booster and eventually no seat. Eliza is in hanna's old convertible. I haven't bought a HBB for her yet and won't for awhile. She's on the smaller side.
Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think many of our kids are ready for the regular seatbelt, even with a HBB
I knew I came to the right place. I have just been getting the chicco brand and this was next in line. I was going by just weight and height so I got it. I'm going to take it back today and get the graco. Either atlas or nautilus. I think the only difference is that the nautilus can switch to the booster only but I'll have to buy a new one anyway for Will so I'll just go with the atlas probably. It will work out better anyway and I think I can avoid buying another convertible for the 3rd kid.
Thanks everyone!! I appreciate you bailing me out of my ignorance and pregnancy/mommy brain.
Oh I also asked a friend but she was the same one that turned her kids at 1.5 yr old. I should have known better.
I hate the infant seat. So Josie will probably be out of that around 6 months and she'll move to Tommy's convertible. We got 2 Britax highback boosters with a 5 point harness. So he'll be in that for awhile.

tribute17 we have the nautilus and love it. It will be his last seat as he will use it as a booster. IMO this age is not mature enough to sit correctly (not mess with seat belt, fall asleep and fall forward, ect) in a booster. We will 5 point him for a couple years. Research has shown it is SO much safer. So just think of it as a more expensive booster.
SC: I have no clue what comes after the convertible carseat. Do I need a booster next? A harness? Bungee cords? Kidding. Car seat safety is intense and warrants its own manual.

I ended up getting the nautilus. I was trying to plane it better for the three kids but ill just buy what I need. This should at least be lighter than a convertible.

I know. I feel like this is another thing they don't really tell you about like the flat head when they are babies thing. Someone should warn you. And I feel like I'm pretty smart and I had trouble at the store figuring out what was right. Imagine all of the dumbasses that go in there. Oi. Oh well I have the right or now and my kid will be fine.

Avery is in a britax advocate convertible. She is a peanut though. DD#1 is in a britax pioneer is a 5pt booster that converts to a seatbelt booster when she is bigger. She is almost 6 and I think she'll be able to use the 5pt for another year or two and then we will convert to the seatbelt booster. We plan to keep the girls in a 5pt until they outgrow it, no matter how old they are.
