I live in Indiana (moved here 4 years ago). I have a Fire Pence sign in my yard. I don't think Trump will win, so this could be positive for my state. I don't really think he will help Trump, but really how many credible people would agree to be his running mate? He holds opposing views on trade than those espoused by Trump too. I've also seen speculation that Pence is doing this because he might lose governor's race, which would likely end his political career but as VP on a losing ticket he could come back in 4 years with national recognition.
Which is to say maybe this will further alienate mainstream republicans. I also heard Indianans hate him. Is that true? Because nothing says "will make a good leader" like your constituency telling you to not let the door hit you on the way out.
Haven't read the thread yet, but yes, Indiana hates Pence. at least this Hoosier does.

Trump is an idiot (as we all know), but this VP pick is just horrible for him. Pence is hated in Indiana... almost lost re-election in a RED state! I really think this could flip Indiana from red to blue this year based solely on Pence.
Okay this is going off topic but I have to vent. The Republican Party is proving themselves to be exactly what I've longed believed them to be. Full of craven politicians who actually care little about their country and its citizens. That Paul Ryan defends a racist, ignorant, incoherent, authoritarian Trump by saying the alternative is electing a normal center-left politician as if that somehow imperils the country is nothing but the most cowardly, self-interested position. All he is thinking about is his own political future.
Have you seen Trump claiming people (read BLM supporters) were calling for moments of silence for the Dallas shooter. And were inspired to march by Johnson. He is a lying POS who is trying to stir up racial enmity for political advantage. It is disgusting and unconscionable.
I realize public education is never a huge election issue (and there are much bigger and more important issues that need to be dealt with!!!) but as an Indiana educator Pence has been terrible for our public schools. Just add it to his ever growing list of terrible policies and ideas.

In addition to being anti women and anti LBGT, Pence is also bad news for public education. He also does not play nicely with others. He pushed for laws and created special boards just get to around our constitution rules about the superintendent of public education just so he wouldn't have to work with her. She is a democrat, a former teacher , and got more votes in the past election than Pence did. He also tried to create a state run media, then back peddled and tried to spin it as a "state press release central" when people compared him to Nazi Germany.
I hate Pence. I'm glad to get rid of him in Indiana. But if Trump managed to get elected, it would be bad news for our country. I'd hate to see Pence's Supreme Court picks if Trump were to be assassinated, for example.
Please ignore my typos and run on sentences; I'm typing in a hurry on my phone and trying not to wake the toddler.

Even his hometown hates the guy. I'd add more details, but I'm new and don't know how to poof things. Just trust me--they do. Except for maybe a few super conservative Christians.
Apparently no one else wants to carry the Indy Star's story.
It was reported first by The Hill, allegedly confirmed from within Trump's campaign. Then the Indy Star, apparently from within Pence.
But the major networks and other outlets are saying the campaigns are still divided and no decisions have been made.
Generally I would say that it's just the big networks eating sour grapes at being scooped by a blog and a local paper, but Trump's campaign is chaotic enough that I could imagine incorrect info leaking out.
I just was reading that Jared Kushner, Ivanka's husband, hates Christie because he indicted his father and was lobbying hard against Christie.
Like in what world is that a deciding factor on a VP pick?

I thought I saw it on our local NBC news, but that could be wrong. I could also see Pence's campaign "leaking" this to help boost his support with Trump fans for the Indiana governor race, and playing off Trump picking someone else as a random Trump quirk.

LOL at the "celebrity" speakers at the GOP convention:
Tim Tebow (former University of Florida, Denver Broncos and New York Jets quarterback) Natalie Gulbis (Ladies Professional Golf Association) Dana White (Ultimate Fighting Championship president) Antonio Sabàto Jr. (“General Hospital”)
Also, Melania is going to speak which will be a first.
Tangentially related: Why are all of you cool and informed Hoosiers in this thread not part of my lyfe?
Yeah, cool and informed Hoosiers can be hard to come by. 😎
I tend to lurk more than post because as soon as I start typing, my toddler finds my phone VERY interesting. But I don't have many people to talk about the kind of stuff with, so threads like these tend to draw me out. I actually almost came here yesterday to start a similar thread because I needed to talk about the Pence/ Trump rumours.
Oh my goodness, that article is awesome. And reminded me of ANOTHER reason I hate Pence: his attempt to block Syrian refugees from coming here. If I remember correctly, a church leader got in a public dispute about it and settled some here anyway. So we get to add Xenophobic to his list of endearing qualities.
I feel this has to be a game for Trump. Like he doesn't care if he's president, but wants to see how crazy he can go and how many votes he actually gets.

Scarily, I think he got walked back on this one. I think Pence is the safe choice.

Another Hoosier here saying the only good thing about this is that he's not in the running again here. But that's only if they lose. DNW to think about this shit show winning.
Also I can already see the ignorant people I know supporting Trump just to put a Hoosier in the White House. I was so disappointed in Indiana for voting for Trump to begin with in the primaries.
Even his hometown hates the guy. I'd add more details, but I'm new and don't know how to poof things. Just trust me--they do. Except for maybe a few super conservative Christians.
As someone originally from his hometown, I can't stand him. When I got old enough to vote, all I wanted to do was vote against him. He is awful...unless you are a white, Christian (preferably catholic), male. He has no regard for the people he is supposed to represent. I feel like this Trump nightmare just keeps getting worse. The only silver lining is that he would have to resign his campaign for governor and would hopefully still lose in November.
I grew up in Northern IN and my parents still live there. Their area is more blue anyway, but they absolutely hate him.
Indiana did actually go blue to vote for Obama, so hopefully enough people can get their heads out of their asses to so it again
I really think it would take a LOT to make that happen again. Hillary is not the candidate to turn Indiana blue again.
Unfortunately, I agree. Most of Indiana (the republicans and many independents, anyway) is in the "never Hillary" camp. I have hope that many will vote third party as a protest.
