I totally understand the disappointment! As someone who is really uncomfortable receiving gifts I actually have to work really hard to make sure the people in my life who like receiving gifts feel appreciated. If you haven't read about the 5 love languages I definitely recommend it - it has helped me understand and meet others expectations much better. I need verbal affirmations and could care less about gifts but realize my husband is actually quite the opposite.
Part of our pre-marital counseling from the church was reading that book! And you really hit the nail on the head! I'm super uncomfortable receiving verbal compliments but words of affirmation is one of my husband's main love languages so I try to be verbally supportive.
Mine are quality time and gifts lol
That's such an awesome book to read prior to marriage! Our pre marital counseling was a joke and involved taking a test with a question about choosing your spouse or child if you could only save one.
Me too. With A I was always super conscious and would either use a huge nursing cover or go to another room. This time I'm like forget that noise, I don't have time for that. Plus hot. I use the 2 shirt method now and if I'm feeling particularly modest I'll use a burp rag lol
+1. Although I gave up on the two shirt method. I'll use an A&A blanket if I'm concerned. (I was actually USING the damned blanket today when someone said something)
Agreed... Second time around I pretty much nurse when and where ever she needs. First time around I was definitely pretty conservative. I did figure out that I can nurse her in one of my carriers which is amazing! One of MH uncles got a show when he asked if she was sleeping when she was nursing and moved the A & A blanket I had covering her... Whoops!
I have actually nursed in public WAY more already with this little than I ever did with DD1. I'm super proud of myself. No comments from anyone yet

Sometimes I feel so bad because so many of you have all the feels about baby not cosleeping anymore. I didn't want to cosleep, but I did a bit just to get sleep, and am totally happy with the kiddos sleeping in their own cribs pretty much the whole time they have been home. Maybe it is because they were in the NICU and there are three of them.
I have zero feels about where anyone sleeps. We've room shared, co-slept, and kicked DS out to his own room when we felt ready. Whatever gets you through the night, different strokes for different folks, etc. etc.
Eta: weird anecdote, we co-slept with DS until he was like 2, mostly because our old rental was set up in a very weird way and the heating/cooling situation was less than ideal in the nursery. When we moved to our new house and changed him to his big boy bed/own room it was literally the easiest transition ever. Like 2 nights, and he was good. Maybe because he had been sleeping in a real bed for a while? No clue. But basically, kids do what they want.

Agreed... You gotta do what works for you! We kept DS in our room for about 3 months. DD started doing her last stretch in her own room before she hit a month and now is in her room all night because we all sleep better that way. I am a big fan on co-sleeping when traveling or anywhere other than our own house.
Also, MH talked me into moving H into a big boy bed when M was about 2 weeks old. I fought him on it but wanted to be able to say "told you so". Pleasantly surprised that the only times he's ever woken up in the MOTN was because of the cat and he stays in his bed until I get him in the am. MH got to say "I told you so" and I'm okay with that!

You're not alone!! Although I love the snuggles, I can't co-sleep and wish we didn't have to be in the same room. I want independence and that works for me! Co-sleeping = shitty sleep for me = cranky mom.
Same. Although I do bring him into bed after his 6/7am feed just until ds1 wakes up. Sometimes I sleep sometimes I don't.
Speaking of sleeping in new environments, I know someone else was supposed to go camping soon, has anyone been yet?
We're tent camping for 3 nights the week after next. We went camping when DS was 6 months, and I don't remember it being particularly heinous...but maybe I blocked it out.
I should also mention I don't love tent camping. I bring my hair straightener, drive 30 minutes into town to get a coffee daily, and get wasted in the evenings so it's tolerable.
You must live in a much cooler climate than I do! Today the heat index was 107 with 70% humidity! I don't even bother with a straightener when I'm in the AC all day. And no amount of booze could make being in that kind of heat bearable lol

We haven't been camping but have taken full advantage of my maternity leave and have been visiting everyone (especially people with pools and beach houses). My toddler has been a champ with all the sleeping changes and M has actually had some great sleeping stretches when traveling. We've had lots of activity and fresh air everywhere we've been so I'm sure that has helped!
We're flying with both for the first time on Friday so I'll report back on that. H has flown a ton and has been great every time. I'm actually not worried about the kids but more about the sheer amount of stuff we need to bring!

We're camping next week, but in our trailer (DH reno-ed a motorcycle trailer, so it's not super awesome. It has a bed and a counter and a five gallon bucket with a toilet seat on it, lol). We love camping, so we're excited. I'm packing tonight, actually.
Regarding nursing, I managed to nurse while wearing DS in a wrap while bowling yesterday! Mad skills! ...not my bowling, though, that sucked. I got like, 30 points in five frames. DS1 bowled the first five frames and got 22 points.

My neighbor called earlier let me know she saw a bear in our back yard. Fun
What kind of bear?
Black bear
We've always had bears "in the area" but it was one of those things go you never really saw. But I guess they say there is in increased population this year plus we are having a slight drought so more have been spotted.
