I had Brussel sprouts last night. The farts from lo are hilarious.
I had no idea this was a thing! I had brussel sprouts on Monday night and LO was so fussy and gassy all yesterday. Guess maybe I should ease up on the sprouts for awhile...
sandandsea if YH can't get paid out for the leave he can't use is he able to donate some to someone who is sick or maybe even on maternity leave? My dad donated leave to someone in his office who had cancer and was going thru treatment and it meant so much to that person. It might make YH less irritated if his leave is going to someone who needs it since he can't take it.
csat it is a huge range for us still. We are always walking the line of tired enough to go down in a few minutes and too tired so I'm just going to scream on and off for an hour or so whenever you put me down. At night we try to bath (every other night), feed, attempt to read a story/rock a bit, swaddle, rock/bounce if needed, put down. It rarely goes perfectly like that but we try! Typically there is screaming somewhere in there Daytime I swaddle and give her a paci but she will not stay down long and usually sleeps in my arms or the carrier.
vivela that is so scary! So glad your LO is ok!! How big is the crate? Cause if it is the right size for him often dogs don't mind it or even enjoy it. It is their safe space like a bedroom. Maybe put a chewy or other favorite toy with him? I don't know anything about muzzles so I don't have any advice there.

csat, my baby nurses to sleep almost 100% of the time. I can't even stop it. He screams his head off for food, gets on, eats for a little, falls asleep. Waking him is actually sometimes difficult, not that I'd want to. So I'm going with it. Survival mode. Sometimes H can bounce him to sleep, but I can't.
I actually just nursed him for almost an hour, and he was sleepy but awake when done. I put him in the RNP in his room, dark with white noise on, and sat there next to him for a few minutes. He fell asleep! Without going back on the boob! It's a Christmas in July miracle. I'm sure a one-off.

vivela, I'm so sorry that happened and so glad baby wasn't hurt! The crate sounds like the best solution. It's probably hard for the dog to know that the other dogs are socializing, but the crate is really supposed to be like the dog's den, and they like it. Maybe this will help your parents come back over to your house once in awhile? (I seem to remember you mentioning this once, hopefully you?)

He has to use a day to get a day paid out. He still has two weeks of paternity leave to use this year too so he isn't using pto soon. And they don't have any means to donate pto. I just hate that he's losing his benefits because he's a dedicated employee. Use it or lose it pto policies kinda suck.

manybellsdown and titania, thanks ladies... I will try to remember that he does like his crate and is normally comfortable in there. We can all make an effort to make it a good place for him with extra treats and toys when he goes in there. I was the one who mentioned my parents expecting me to come over all the time. I started being more direct about when they needed to come to me if they wanted to see LO and they have been good about it. Now that I'm more comfortable and mobile, however, I do prefer going there. They are on the water and the hot days are so much nicer at their house! I might limit the duration of my visits a bit, however, if the dog has to be crated the entire time.
Lol GOmamab15 that is too funny! I feel like everyone is always asking that!
manybellsdown and all the other mamas who had long sleep stretches yay!! DD slept 10:30-3:40 but I was not as fortunate to sleep that long. She's such a loud sleeper!
This last week and a half has been terrible until yesterday! I had this super laid back baby who slept a lot and put herself to sleep at times. She also loved the car and didn't want to nurse all the time like DD1 did. All the sudden she changed. I know some of it was a growth spurt but she was also gagging a lot in her sleep and screaming when milk came out. She also screamed during all car rides and did not like laying flat. I took her in and they put her on Zantac. It's like night and day! after 4 doses she is back to her old self! We also have her on a probiotic now too. We have also been dealing with two year molars from DD1 and lots of meltdowns! Any time I pick DD2 up she says I need you or put her down. She just says it over and over until you're about to go crazy. I sure hope that passes soon! I know it's a big change but can we not meltdown every time?!
bighair12 how are you running with the stroller? I thought you had to wait until they can hold themselves upright (6-8 months) to use a jogging stroller but I was thinking that it would be okay with the car seat because that provides so much support, especially if jogging on a smooth surface (paved path or road). I've started running again too but it would make things so much easier if I didn't have to wait until DH can watch the baby to go out.
I am running with the stroller and the car seat. We have a bob revolution. I know that it isn't necessarily recommended but it is too hot in the evening for me. LO doesn't bounce too much and I try to be safe about it.

Tales from Maternity Leave
The swiffer commercial with the very loud doorbell sound is my daytime TV mortal enemy. My dog hears it in the deepest of sleep,* goes nuts, runs to the door, barks. And barks. Today it happened during a nap. I've never shh'd and moved so fast to calm him.

What a bizarre, sucky policy. I don't get it. Hope his mood improves soon though.

*ps. - regularly jealous of my dog
I'd say let him bark, the sooner your kid learns to sleep through dog barks the better.
vivela I'm so sorry that happened! I'm glad it wasn't worse. Sounds like everyone will be happier and safer with the dog in the crate for the foreseeable future.
csat DS always falls asleep after/during feeding. I have no idea how I'd get him to sleep without the boob. (GL to my DH when I go back to work!)
sandandsea I'm sorry your H is in that position. Are half or 3/4 days an option for him?(even though he wouldn't get pto he might feel more recharged getting to spend more time at home while still being dedicated to his job). I've been in a similar place at my work in the past and it's hard to not get burnt out and bummed by losing pto
Glad to hear some babies are sleeping longer stretches. DD was doing one 4-6 hour stretch but appears to have regressed a bit. I hoping it's the 6 week growth spurt.
How long is it taking you to get your babies to sleep for naps/bedtime? And how are you getting them to sleep? Our quiet time bouncing time whatever it has morphed into has to be done for every sleep time and can last anywhere from 20 min to 2 hours sometimes longer. It's killing me.
It takes forever to get DS2 to fall asleep for every single freakin nap! I have to bounce him, walk him around, nurse while walking him around or whatever way he decides at that moment. I'm exhausted and my arms have been killing me. And it takes a long time for him to fall asleep, usually about an hour. He used to fall asleep easily while nursing, but not anymore. I hope this is a phase and goes away as soon as possible.
I'm wondering about taking baths during early postpartum. In the hospital the doctor who signed off on my discharge said no baths until I'm cleared at my 6 week appt. But baths are my thing. They help me feel sane. I don't want to wait 4 more weeks if I don't have to. I think I've read that it's fine so long as the tub is cleaned well. The fact that a doctor I saw for all of 2 minutes said this doesn't make me take it too seriously but maybe she said that because of my stitches (2nd degree tear) so maybe I should listen. Did anyone get specific bath tub instructions pp? I can email my OB but I first wanted to check to see what others have done and what your doctors told you.
amiet79, this is us, it sucks I'm sorry you are going through it.
She is also almost constantly fussy during waking times even after getting a good sleep. I've noticed some other digestive things so I actually just called my Pediatrician about silent reflux.

With my first I got the no baths thing. Didn't this time. But I didn't tear as much and didn't need stitches this time. I think if you are done bleeding, you're fine.
GOmamab15, I don't remember any specific instructions about baths, I took one with DD around 4 weeks pp. I'd love a relaxing just me bath!, preferably in a hotel room, with a bottle of wine...

I'm glad I'm not the only one, but I'm sorry that you're going through it too. I'm really hoping it stops soon.

What kind of things have you noticed? Also paging. birdhut - what did you notice to call about reflux? P has been spitting a lot lately which I know is normal. But she is also mad mad at my boobs sometimes in the evenings especially and gags sometimes. I can't feel letdown but sometimes I think it's that. But then she gets all worked up and never recovers. So I'm trying to determine if it's just witching hour fussy baby or something more. She's much better in mornings which makes me think it's nothing. But my wife only sees her in the evenings and seems to think all she does is cry and nurse and cry again.
Stringy, it's a combination of things that makes me want to rule out whatever I can. Almost always fussy, not just fussing but crying leading to screaming, at all times of day even after well timed, good naps and first thing in the morning. She takes formula and her intake has dropped over the last two weeks and each feeding is a struggle, she acts hungry takes a few seconds on the bottle then cries, arches her back, when she is fussy she acts like she is in pain, which I have differentiated from her tired fussy crying. Her stomach is very noisy, she hiccups a lot and I've heard sounds in her throat that sound similar to when I had heartburn during pregnancy. She typically is only content upright and hates any kind of cradle position or contraption in that position. She doesn't spit up but I've seen pools of milk in her mouth 30 min or so after she eats and she gets upset when that happens, she also regularly chokes on her bottle even with the slowest flow nipple.
All these things I am pretty sure are in the realm of normal but taken together I'm checking it out.

Stringy DD has reflux and she is pretty fussy all day, she is only happy while I'm wearing her. She is mostly ok while nursing but she does get a lot of hiccups. She gags and gasps a lot, especially at night.
My cousin who has been trying to get pregnant for 6 years and many miscarriages just did her third and final round of ivf. She just found out today she's pregnant her numbers went from 187 to 750 in 48 hours. I am so freaking excited for her and just had to share. This has been a roller coaster and I can't wait for her to have her rainbow baby. We all know there are many hurdles going forward but my family is staying positive and enjoying the happy moment. Please think good thoughts for her and her baby boy.

Wow that is so exciting! I will be thinking about her, keep us updated! One of my best friends did IVF and is finding out tomorrow if it worked.
