Okay I need some last minute help! My friend just invited me to meet her newborn at the hospital. Their first they wouldn't let anybody see the baby for a while and were super paranoid about germs so I wasn't expecting to meet her this early. I don't have a baby gift yet but I want to take something when I go visit. I was thinking maybe stop at a bakery and get some treats for the new mom? Any better suggestions?
It's their second girl so I know they don't need anything really for the baby.
No gift for H. I mentioned to him that we should bring some snacks for him because they fed him during labour last time but once baby was born, no more food for him and it was getting late.
He wants to buy me (I use the term loosely since he would use it as much as I would) iPad as a baby present. All his idea, I said I didn't need one, mine is old and has no memory left...

Food is always appreciated, especially in the hospital. Maybe flowers or a plant in a vase that can be kept as another idea.
Is anyone bringing a gift for SO to the hospital? I did this for our first labor and filled a gift bag with a bottle of water, a red bull, some snacks, some change for the vending machine, gum, etc. I also wrote him a nice card about what a great Dad he will be. He loved it. He didn't want to leave my side the entire time so the snacks and refreshments came in handy until I finally kicked his butt out so he could get some Panera.
Nope. MH can handle his own business lol. He's not great when I'm pregnant. He gets stressed and he frequently (probably unintentionally) makes me feel like shit like I don't do enough and he has to pick up the slack. He also deals with things internally which makes it appear like he's pushing me away and like he doesn't care to spend time with me. I really dislike him when I'm pregnant. So.... no, he doesn't get a gift. But once baby comes he'll be wonderful at the hospital and he'll be super helpful till he goes back to work (he'll be off for a week).
On a semi related note (only because it has to do with delivery) I can't wait to eat after delivery. I'm excited in anticipation of my multiple dinners lol.
Interesting! As a true type-A person, I like them because it will give you somewhat of an idea how you're progressing in those last few weeks and whether you may be trending earlier vs later. Just my 2 cents.
This is what I thought with DD1 and got checked at 38 weeks and was 3cm dilated and my midwife was all "any day now!!"...then I didn't deliver until 41 weeks exactly.
Yes! This proves what I was saying. That must have been awful!! Like those 3 weeks aren't long enough, let's add in the medical professional giving you extra hope, bah, torture!!

Tell me about it! I was checked again at 40 weeks and was almost 4 cm and still no active labor. There were lots of tears and frustration between week 40 and 41. Lol

Im headed to the hospital I decided to take a break form cleaning. I think I may have to order lunch though I'm so hungry. I would have asked to stop but with everyone in the car I didn't want to be rude and eat infront of them.

I still haven't felt any hiccups yet this pregnancy. My midwife says his best guess is that baby is head down right now but he said in a couple of weeks it will be easier to tell. At my practice, they can tell by just feeling your belly.
I usually refuse the cervical checks as well. Last time I didn't get one until 40 weeks but nothing was happening and it was really disheartening. It just doesn't seem like you can really predict labor's arrival based on that check. Plus it hurts like hell or at least mine did.

So. I walk into the nicu with my SIL. And told the lady behind thr desk who I was and was there to see and she looks at my SIL and goes oh I thought you where the mom. Knife. Through. The. Heart. I'm going to go cry now.
I go to a practice of 6 that rotate on call so I could be delivered by any one of them, and yes one of them is a man. He's the one I saw at my appointment this week. Nice guy and he was really sweet with my DD.

What??!! Why would she ever think that was an appropriate thing to vocalize. People just don't know when to shut their face. I'm so sorry.

Interesting. It's not a profession where you see a lot of men. my favourite OB was a man, so I have no problems with being followed by a man. I was just surprised 😀

Thanks! I ended up taking two huge pink sugar cookies and 6 of the cutest pink macaroons with little animals on them. They better be damn good because those 8 cookies were $22!

I don't know why she decided that was a smart thing to say. I understand how the misconception could have happened. DH and I don't normally visit until the evening when he gets off work and since the nicu is a 45 min drive for us I don't risk going in my car since it needs to be registered again. MIL &SIL only live 5 minutes away so they vist every day for a few minutes so the day nurses recognize them. But still why say that out loud while I'm right there! If your going to say it at least wait until I'm gone.

I had my regular check up today, I gained 3 lbs in the 2 weeks since my last appointment (oops), and my belly measured 3 weeks ahead. Eeeek. I also got my tdap vaccine and prescription for my breast pump, things are getting so real all of a sudden
Like PPs, I dread the cervical checks because they hurt like a bitch. And if anyone gets their membranes stripped at the end of pregnancy, you have all my sympathy. I had it done with both of my other pregnancies and omg it hurts.

I've only had men OB'S. Well, when I had DS there were 4 on rotation and one was a girl, but I only saw her once. Funny thing is, one of the 4 ended up moving on to his own practice a year or so later, and when the practice downsized 11 ish years later (2 doctors left for better opportunities, which I was very sad about) I went to his practice and he was great. And then he's not doing pregnancies right now so now I have another OB, also a male but with 2 female nurse practitioners.
Seeing my doctor today. Well, right now that is. I'm in the exam room waiting. Gunna ask about that thing I mentioned in the weekly check in thread. I'm nervous lol, hoping for the best.
We're going on vacation tomorrow, so DS and I cleaned my car this morning and we'll be packing thus afternoon. Can't wait to get away!
Quoting myself to update
***possible trigger warning ***
So far so good. Dr. (Well, nurse practitioner) is not concerned really. She examined my breast and said it could be just a plugged milk duct or another benign thing that I can't remember what she called it. But, we're going to do an ultrasound on it at the hospital just in case. I'll go on Tuesday and I hope I'll get an answer that same day.
I haven't spoken to DH about it, and I don't think I'm going to until after I get the results of that appointment. I mentioned earlier that he gets stressed and stuff when I'm pregnant anyhow, and I don't want him to freak out and internalize even more. We leave for vacation tomorrow, just a long weekend and we come home on Monday, but I'm happy to have that right now to take my mind off of things.
beckyrosen I'm glad they're not concerned and that you'll get a follow up to be sure. I totally understand not telling your H (mine has anxiety), but that's gotta be tough to carry all the worry yourself. Thinking about you!
On the announcements thread, can we just do announcements and love tits? That way it's easier to go back through and reference? Then we can do individual birth story threads if we'd like where there can be talk?
Not trying to police threads or anything, just thought it'd be easier. If it's already been discussed, please ignore me.

I wish I was only gaining 3 lbs in 2 weeks! I've been at a about 2-2.5 lbs a week for a bit now. I don't like it but dr said everything was looking good so try not to worry about it.

Hasn't been discussed but I already made the same request right in the announcement thread. That seems to be standard across the other BMBs and keeps the thread nice and clean so I carried over the request to ours.
Then everyone can post their own birth story thread and we can give them all the individualized congrats there!
