lucanjo14 - She naps in her crib. I put on an episode of Peppa Pig for dd1, take dd2 into the bedroom and nurse her until she's pretty much asleep then transfer into the crib with a pacifier. It works most of the time!
kelltothekell we went to Seattle a few years ago. Definitely go to Olympic national park. It is gorgeous!! We did a long day trip but wish we would have done 2 days/1 night.
Moms with toddlers- where do you put baby for a nap? We are currently still using the swing but most days lately I can only get her to take one solid nap because DS wakes her up as soon as I go to put her in. Today I tried to nap her in her crib but she was not having it. Follow up question: what do you do with your toddler while you are trying to put baby down? I'm so exhausted and mentally drained from the past week that I've poured a glass of wine. DS is still not himself from the HFM and apparently my kids don't need sleep like normal humans.
Enjoy the wine. I struggle with this daily. DD2 used to nap in her swing but she has outgrown it. She nurses to sleep so I usually put on the TV for DD1. I attempt to transfer DD2 to the crib but it is almost always a failure. Honestly, DD1 takes most of her naps in her car seat. She will fall asleep on the way to/from a play date/library/target. Once we are home I move her to her room. Not my preference, but this is what works momentarily.
FFTC I do not floss my own teeth every day. I'm happy if I can get once a week. It always feels so good when I do it too, but bed usually seems like a better option.
I've been MIA for a while and I see a weekly thread now! I like it.
DD2 had a fever for 5 days after her 6 month shots. The fever was never high but she was not happy. I had to stop solids because she threw up her sweet potatoes the day the fever started. I'm so glad she is back to her smiley self. She has been very giggly lately and it melts my heart.
So far we have only done baby oatmeal, sweet potatoes, and bananas. Next up; carrots. I feel so behind on solids but I don't care. I hate making baby food. It's worse than pumping.
Baby naps in his crib. Toddler watches Daniel tiger or MMCH while I'm putting him down. We're working on a two nap a day schedule right now so it's all pretty predictable.

NellieOleson, they do not have a German accent in English, but they are pretty lazy when they're talking to me and throw in German words all the time if they pop into their heads faster than the English words (which is pretty common since they're otherwise in an all-German environment). It's super cute, but they'll have to break the habit with my mom. She can't really be expected to understand DD2 telling a story like: "And then DD1 and I were on the Rutsche and we rutscht and I was on DD1's Schoss and then we said "weeee!" and went runter!" (Translation: We were on the slide and we slid and I was on DD1's lap and we went down!)
Ok, I've got tons of snacks ready to go, both healthy and unhealthy (because "go potty now before we stand in line to board and I'll give you a couple of gummy bears" is way more effective than "and I'll give you a carrot stick" ). I've downloaded some new apps onto their Fires, got a new sticker book for each of them with 1000 stickers, and new mini Disney princess coloring books.

Did I mention that Delta does not let you choose the bassinet seats until you get to the airport to check in? And they don't let you check in the night before. So I will not know until we get to the airport Sunday morning whether we will actually get a bassinet seat (one of the bulkhead seats and you can attach a little baby bay onto the wall in front of you so you don't have to hold the baby the whole time).

That stinks
The United flight we are on to Hawaii doesn't even have them we did however get upgraded to bulk head seats since they messed around with adding DD'to my ticket as a lap seat. So there is that.
You sound like you have a lot of nice plane activities planned crimsonandclover ! Your kids are going to have a great flight (and hopefully stress free for you!) is your H traveling with you guys too?

NellieOleson - The reason I asked was because my American friend who lives in Martinique has three young boys - all of them have serious French accents when they speak English. They do the word swapping thing, too, and even more so will accidentally structure their sentences in the French way while using English words. (Ball yellow vs yellow ball, etc.) I just find the whole thing so interesting because it really gives insight into language acquisition watching these little bilingual kids! Your girls are lucky to be learning both.

We are on our way to Mt Hood to hike along the Salmon River. Dd1 has decided she wants to ride in the hiking backpack, but she can't because dd2 obviously can't walk. This is either going to be a really fun day or I'm going to be carrying a crying toddler through the forest.

kelltothekell, I'm so tired because I stayed up watching the DNC every night this week. I'm truly inspired and optimistic - and politics hasn't made me feel that way in a long time.

Great pics, NellieOleson! The hike looks wonderful. I can't wait until we can get back out and get active outdoors. It's just way too hot here right now!

Busy day today. We survived DD's 6 month appointment though I almost melted down afterwards. DD really got mad after her shots and refused to nurse. I got her in her carseat and she escalated her screaming to the point she puked. I texted H so frustrated because I wanted to take DS school clothes shopping after but didn't think I could do it all by myself (he was at school). I finally got my shit together and figured getting to the mall was faster than going all the way home and I knew DD was super tired so I prayed she'd pass out in the ring sling. We survived 15 min of screaming in the car, got to the mall and she passed out in the RS. Cue 2.5 hours of shopping with DS and a lovely lunch. DD didn't wake up until I put her back in the car and then she was relatively happy the whole way home. We even took another nap together later in the afternoon. So all in all, a decent day. We even had some pool time and now we are having a summer storm. Hopefully it cools things off some.

NellieOleson, yes, I always speak English with them. The only times I don't are when we're in public and I need someone around us to also understand. E.g. When we're at the playground and DD2 is blocking the slide and other kids are waiting, then I'll tell her in German that she needs to get going and slide so that the other kids and their moms know that I'm working on it (most of the moms would probably understand English, but still). Or when we're around DH's grandma because she only understands a little English and I don't want to be rude. Otherwise all English all the time, though.
I think it helps that English is taught starting in 1st grade here anyway and people generally view it VERY positively that our girls are growing up with it. Getting that sort of positive reinforcement from the environment is supposed to be helpful in encouraging bilingualism.
Waiting around for my mom to get back to me. My dad has her car, so I'm taking the kids to her house in a cab, but I need to know when she wants us to go. For now we're watching Doctor Who.
M is trying so hard to crawl. She's got the army crawl figured out, and can climb up a step. She can also pull to standingIf she can find something the right height that she trusts not to fall over.
Hubs thought he was going to have a nice Saturday galavanting around town by himself.... While I baby handled worked my ass off and managed the dogs. I had other news for him. It was unfortunate that he tried to use being "busy" as an excuse not to take the baby. It was a realllllly bad choice of words. Result- husband and baby are out on their own and I am getting done with no distractions!
I think I have an ear infection... I can't remember the last time this happened or why it would happen now. Do I need to go to the doctor?
Yes! If you do have an ear infection you need antibiotics. You don't want hearing loss or a blown ear drum from an untreated ear infection. So sorry. I've had them all my life and they are painful. 😢

Ok, here we go. I've got the alarm set for 5:15 tomorrow morning and doubt I'll get on before we go to the airport, so I'll see you all on the other side... Both DD1 and 2 were saying they were too excited to sleep. Their plan was to stay up all night playing. O.O However, they are now both definitely lying in bed and will hopefully fall asleep soon.

H is on holidays starting today. I woke up to find the baby napping, S watching cartoons, and H cleaning the house. Later he's going to play games at his friend's house. Tomorrow, I get to make a zillion phone calls. I need to set up some stuff for M, a doctor's appointment for me, and call the CRA to figure out why S isn't showing up as eligible for my CCB. I should be getting about twice what I am.
When M wakes up, we're going to get some lunch. Probably grab groceries in the next couple of days. We're planning on being out a lot this week, but I'd really like to get us more in the habit of eating at home. It would definitely help me to lose weight.
3.5h later and I don't have an ear infection, but my Eustacian tube is fully blocked on one side. Joy. I have ear drops for the pain and the blockage is supposed to resolve itself.
