What happens when you are sick?

DH taking sick days got me thinking... What happens when you get sick? I got really sick once with vertigo and my husband had to stay home one day and his mom stayed home another. If I just have a sinus infection or something mild like that I take care of DD on my own. Do you get sick days?

I was sick just a couple of weeks ago with the stomach bug and the first day was absolutely miserable so luckily my husband took a sick day. Other times when I had a sinus infection I just had to fight through it.

If it's just a cold, I deal with it and go about my day the best I can. When it's something more severe, DH will stay home to hold down the fort. He has a job where he is lucky enough to have flexible hours and the ability to work from home just about whenever he needs to.

This time last year, I came down with the flu and a sinus infection when I was about 32 weeks pregnant. I was bedridden for almost a week. He really stepped up his game and took care of me and DD in whatever way he could.

My DH has stayed home when I've had a stomach bug even if it means he misses a couple of days since we both get it. For a regular cold or infection he doesn't stay home.

Thankfully, I haven't been severely sick thus far. I don't recall needing DH home so bad that I needed him to stay/come home. He can definitely take off but I usually fight through ailments to not waste a vacation/personal day of his.

I usually only get help if I'm really sick, like puking sick or a severe case of bronchitis. If MH can take off, he does that so I have help, otherwise one of my parents comes and helps as much as they can. For everything else, I'm on my own, and just do what I can if I don't have the energy to do all of my regular tasks.

Timely topic...woke up with a sore throat this morning and not feeling great at all. If it's a little cold I usually deal with it and still take care of DD. Today is 1 of 2 days/week that MIL watches DD so I can go to work part-time. But I ended up dropping her off and came home to rest. Thanks god for family help even though MiL really irritates me sometimes but the help is much appreciated. Hopefully all the SAHMs have some help from family when sickness gets really bad.

Typically, I just suck it up and go on with my life. Recently, I had the flu, strep throat, and an ear infection and my wonderful MIL came and got DD so I could get some rest for a couple days. Dh cooked dinner and DS basically can take care of himself, so it was great.

When I had horrible morning sickness this summer, I functioned enough to get them food and get them down for naps. Otherwise I laid on the couch and we watched a lot of movies. I'm sure if I was really sick, DH would need to stay home but it never got to that point.

If I was really sick, my mom would watch the baby. DH wouldn't take the day off unless it was an emergency.

So far as a SAHM when I'm sick, I just deal with it.  And then when DH gets sick a week later, he takes off and hides in the bedroom, which makes me a little resentful/jealous.  Luckily I haven't been so sick I couldn't take basic care of DS yet.

No sick days for me. I have had the flu 2 times since E was born and DH can't take just 1 or 2 days off so it's all on me. I have had horrible morning sickness this entire pregnancy, before I was prescribed zofran I just had to deal with it. Both boys watched way to much tv while I was between the bathroom and the couch.

I'm sick (head cold) and luckily DH has vacation days this week (it's our anniversary on Thursday). Otherwise I would be toughing it out more. DH doesn't have paid sick days so it would have to be something really serious for him to stay home when I'm sick.

Unless I am running a high fever and unable to get out of bed, which is very rare, I will call DD's nanny to take her over to her house. DH will stay home if he is able. I can vividly remember over the summer I got very sick, shaky, and overall miserable, yet I still took care of DD. I will not be doing that again, it was horrible.

If it's a cold or even at the beginning of this pregnancy, I've just had to suck it up. DH works out of town a lot.

A couple of weeks ago I had the flu and luckily he was in town... he came home from work early to take care of DD because I was totally useless. She was crying from her crib and I couldn't even stand up.

It depends how sick I am. I try to just tough it out but DH is always willing to stay home. He gets plenty of sick leave and he hardly uses it for himself. He saves it for when I get sick. He hardly gets sick. Lucky. His work is also very flexible. There were times that he didn't have any leave due to company reasons, and I needed care (one time I had mastitis, the other was when we miscarried). His boss told him to just take the day and not to worry about it.

DH stayed home one day when I had a severe stomach virus when I was 20 some weeks pregnant with #2. I almost went to the ER because I was having contractions. He stayed home a half day when I threw my back out putting #1 in his carseat and I couldn't move. Otherwise it's always me, no sick days!

Yup if it's really bad like I'm down with the stomach big or high fever flu he stays home.
I also had really bad morning sickness so he worked from home a lot this summer and I was able to get in a nap during his slower times which was awesome.
But colds .... Nope.

Luckily in the almost 14 months of being parents I have only been sick twice. One time was over a weekend/holiday and DH kept LO entertained so I could lay in bed and recover from the flu (which I got from LO and DH got once I was better). I am currently fighting a nasty cold/cough/migraine and DH has been in Florida on a business trip and I've had to fight through it. Makes me thankful for family who offers to help me out.

Depends on what dh has going on at work. At times I send the kids to my moms. On other occasions dh WFH and the kids watched a whole lot of tv.

I had the flu once. My older three kids were at school all day luckily. I had my at the time almost 1 year old, though. We watched a lot of TV. I laid on the ground and "played toys". I cooked really easy food, and didn't care that it was crap. I didn't cook dinner, I let my H, and I didn't clean. The flu is no joke, it knocked me out. If it is mild sickness I just deal and nap when the baby naps.

I was (still am) sick over this past weekend. (First time since before the girls were born.) DH was great about taking on the majority of the baby care - I really only had to watch him while he put in his OT hours (from home) and snowblowed the driveway (so he could go pick me up some cold medicine). If need be, DH could and probably would take a day off to watch the kids while I attempted to get better.

(Yes, I got sick, now he and the babies are sick. *sigh*)

I have only gotten one sick day since my daughter was born. I had vertigo and couldn't do anything. My husband took one day off. It didn't go away overnight but I was functioning at least. Unless I can't stand like that one day my husband works and no sick days for me.

Vertigo is the absolute worst. I had it when DD was 4 months old. I remember rocking her and waking dh up because the room was spinning. I was so dehydrated from being sick with it I had to be rescued by the paramedics because everytime I tried to get up to go down stairs I got sick. After a trip to the ER it took 3 or so days to recover.

Luckily mine wasn't that bad! As long as I didn't move I didn't get sick. It made taking care of a two year old impossible so finally my husband took a day. Although he was only going to take half a day until he realized there was no way I was getting any better in four hours. My stuck around not as bad for about a week.

I don't seem to get sick often but if it's not horrible I just suck it up. Otherwise DH will stay home and help out with our little bug.

DH left me home alone with a 3mo when I had been vomiting uncontrollably all night. He got it a few days later and "couldn't get out of bed" spending the whole weekend in bed. Luckily, DD wasn't moble yet and we laid in bed snuggling, dozing and nursing all day. I was pissed.

I usually plow through. My parents are in town, but I hate exposing them to illness since my dad has had a number of heart problems.

When I've been sick enough that I felt I needed help, I've asked DH to take a sick day or ILs who are a contractor and a school employee and have times of year when they don't work every day and are able to help in that capacity. If it's a mild illness, I usually just make due. I don't entertain the kids all day in the first place, so they can usually keep themselves fairly occupied and just need me to prepare food and help with potty/diapers.
