Can we talk about cold weather gear? I know, I know who wants winter but I'm curious what to dress ds in. It can get pretty cold here and I know you need to be careful that clothing doesn't interfere with the car seat....
So snow suits? Mittens? I know hats and mittens are essential but if he's not going to be outside much and he's too young to be out playing...is a snow suit necessary?
Here the winters get cold but not super cold. Average highs in the 30's-40's usually. Occasional blasts to highs in the teens-20's. A's first winter he had a snowsuit I had on him once. Unless he's out in the cold prolonged a lot, it's just not necessary. Daily, I dressed him in long sleeve onesie/ pants/ socks and a sweatshirt type jacket and hat. Into the car seat and covered with a warm, thick blanket, followed by a kid-o-pottamus shower-cap type car seat cover. It was fleece lined on the inside and water repellant on the outside with a cutout for his face. On particularly cold days I also used like the car seat canopy cover over the handle to shield his face from the cold/ wind as well. I never bothered with mittens. Except for when I was taking him somewhere where I wanted people to fawn over how cute he/ they were! ππ Here's a close-up of him one day. π

Chicago winter...cold! Never did a snowsuit until it was time to play in the snow! Which was his 2nd winter and we still only used it twice. We have a bundle-me cover for the stroller as we still do lots of winter walks! Hats, mittens, down jacket. For his first winter, he had already gone to convertible car seat. So we just had a blanket we wrapped him in to go from car to inside destination. Warming the car up in our garage isn't a problem....it's a heated and cooled garage. Always between 68-73F in there!
Do be sure you never have a jacket on UNDER seat straps. Also, the crafty moms in my old board did "winter ponchos".
Gah! I've been thinking about this too. Good to know. We get our fair share of cold and snow.
TTMA nursing in cold weather?
I am sort of concerned for myself since I have Raynauds Disease. Not in my nips (yet, thank God) but it sort of has a remission in summer so the fun may be yet to come. Anyway, we're talking multiple layers of wool socks, tank, tee, and hoodie/sweater everyday. Usually I also wear a jacket/mittens indoors and am under multiple blankets when possible. My boobs will be behind a fortress of fabric. I have no game plan.

My plan is to stick to nursing tanks and shirts that are nursing friendly and double up on zip up jackets.

Are you all planning on nursing outside? I imagine most of the time you'll nurse inside and the temperature will be pretty comfortable?
Or I'm really naive, since I don't do real winter except for on vacation an business trips.
idk how much has to do with my autoimmune issues but I can never warm up in winter, indoors or out. Can't go in the kitchen or touch water, I have to wear gloves to touch even a room temp drink, wear gloves and multiple layers in the store/at work. Never take off my jacket when visiting a restaurant or friends house. I'm an anomaly though. Idk wth I'll do for DC? We're going to have a crazy heating bill I guess.
snoris, when I travel for work I always find myself uncomfortable.. because its SO cold outside and then the buildings are SO WARM. So what I need to wear to be comfortable in a building is not nearly enough layers to keep me comfortable outside, even with a huge coat.
I'm glad I have DS to use as an excuse to get out of travel until next spring.
It doesnt really get that cold here. 30s daytime except jan/feb in the teens. Planning on a warm jacket and blankets! Need to look into this babywearing jacket brilliance!!

Uhhhh 30s is cold πlol
Lol I agree, I am not a fan of winter, but at least it doesnt stay long and we don't really get any snow.

I think our winters are pretty similar. I'm going to get a fleece footed one-piece from Old Navy and I will put that over whatever he has on. I also have a shower cap style carseat cover that zips up to his chin. Hats, mitts, warm blankets. You can get a bunting for the stroller if you plan on going for walks.
snoris, my sister has Reynauds. Along with Hyperhydrosis. it sucks
does she have any tips for cold weather survival?! ππΌπ The only advice my rheumatologist has is to have others do for me what I can't do for myself in cold weather... Sadly H can't nurse. π
I never had raynauds until the winter that became 2012 and every year has become worse. Last year was REALLY bad so I'm nervous about the trend continuing! Also nervous I might get it in my nips. So thankful mine is very rarely painful. My stepmom has the painful kind and she had to move south because of it.

I've had it on my nipples and it's like razor blades. It's one of the reasons moved out here. The weather here has helped several of my health issues.
I was afraid of that @led & babycaps π’ I just convinced MH to move across the state & buy a house so I don't think moving across the county would go over too well! I don't even know where I would want to live if I moved somewhere warmer!
