Omg you guys. It happened. My biggest (irrational) fear just happened. I finished a MOTN nursing session with DS, and came back to bed. DH was on his phone, and I had mine too since I was catching up here.
Suddenly I felt a tickle on my right elbow. Immediately after I felt it, DH sat up saying "what the hell was that?!" He felt that tickle too. We scrambled around trying to find what tickled us. We saw movement by our pillows and DH starts trying to smash it with his phone, while I'm panicking fumbling to turn the flashlight on with my phone. We finally were able to see what had tickled us.
A mother fucking spider.
I tried looking up a pic so you could see what kind it was, but just looking at pics was sending me into an anxiety attack.
I'm never going to sleep again.
So what are your biggest (irrational) fears? Have you ever had to face them?

gooselover2012 would not do well in our house. My kids are obsessed with butterflies and moths. When we find caterpillars we bring them inside into our butterfly habitat and watch them pupate and become butterflies/moths. We've done a luna moth, cabbage butterfly, black swallowtail butterfly, and Polyphemus moth this year. The boys found a huge Cecropia moth caterpillar last week and we tried it with him, but he died before he pupated. Thw kids were bummed because it's the largest moth in North America with a six inch wingspan!! I have milkweed planted all around the property so it's like a butterfly haven around here. Monarchs everywhere.
My fear is cockroaches. College did it to me and living in the crappy off-campus apartments that were infested. I know cockroaches are normal down south, but not in Ohio. I've told DH numerous times that if we ever had them I would burn the house down or move out that day. Those are the only options. He'd be on his own to put it on the market and sell while I'm at my parents' house!
Caterpillars are my absolute biggest fear. We get the invasive tent caterpillars by the thousands. My brothers used to collect handfuls and throw them at me. This year I looked down to find one crawling between my toes. I kicked my sandal off and DH had to carry me inside. No more sandals in my yard. It's a ridiculous fear but I can't even look at them.
I also have an irrational fear of a snake in a tolilet, that I don't see before sitting down. I don't think that would happen with the way our pipes are, but I have heard stories. CREEPY!

Well I think it's story time!!
When I was in college, I lived in an old house that had been split into three apartments. A girl had just moved into the studio-style section, and that night she came furiously knocking on my door. She was freaking out because there was a snake coiled on her toilet seat! So I went over there, and sure enough! Generally I'm not scared of snakes, but I'm not going to try to handle one if I don't know what kind it is first. I tried calling my landlord, but no answer. I had a friend who is a police officer and a nature lover, so I called him. He was actually on duty and he came over. He said it was a boa constrictor! So we were like WTH?
Finally the next day our landlord came over. Turns out that the previous tenant had the snake as a pet but lost it before moving out. It must have gone in the pipes?

Oh my gosh, how crazy! At least it had gotten out of the pipes and was sitting on the toilet seat so she saw it before she sat down, but still!!!

I agree with all of you. Spiders, roaches, butterflies, etc. I will add to that those quick as hell thousand leggers. I don't want to google to find the real name or I'll get freaked out. I've had too many run ins with those.
Besides that type of thing, I'm terrified of peeping toms. When I was younger we saw someone real close by the window in the back of our house late at night and I've been scared since. Fortunately I haven't lived of the first floor of a building in a really long time. If we ever get a house it's going to be a bit of an adjustment.
jags8 I would have to sleep on the couch for a few days after that.
We have wolf spiders in the house I grew up in and I was always the one to spot them. I would freeze and just start screaming until my dad would come. Those suckers move so effing fast though that it is really hard to actually kill them.
My sister woke up to a cockroach crawling on her face one night.
Ummmm.... So..... I am terrified of butterflies! (and moths and dragonfly's)
When I was younger I was tubing behind a boat and got smacked in the face by a dragonfly. So there's that. And I just hate their sporadic flight patterns. They are so unpredictable. You never know where they are going.
In Manila sometimes before a big rain hundreds of dragonflies would swarm this giant field by our townhouse. All the kids thought it was amazing and I would freak out, so afraid one would touch me
Ohh and also, when we were in Manila we took a taxi to one of the malls.
I saw a cockroach in the taxi and was like fuck. That is gross. Traffic was awful but we kept rising until I saw number SIX and was like. Nope, DH and I got out in the middle of the road and walked the rest of the way. I had the shivers thinking about the fact that since I saw six there must have been like a hundred in the taxi.

My mom saw a picture of a snake in a toilet in Bangkok and she told me that if we ever moved to Thailand that she didn't think she could come visit because she is too scared of snakes. I would freak but I'm far more afraid of spiders than snakes.
To follow the bug trend, I'm terrified of ticks. When we were in college, we lived up in the mountains and took our dog running on trails and in the creek and stuff. She also ran around the woods when we let her out to go to the bathroom. One day I was sitting on the couch and saw something in my hair out of the corner of my eye. It was a tick and I flipped out. That same day I was in Walmart and ran my hand over my head and felt a little bump. I ran to the bathroom and pulled that sucker off. Soo gross. Just thinking about ticks makes me sweat.
our dog infested our townhouse with ticks about a month before we left Manila. It was the worst! Aren't they terrifying, luckily I don't think dog ticks have Lyme disease, just deer ticks. I never pulled one out of my hair though! That must have been horrifying.
Sorry for being like a PW. On mobile feeding LO so I've been slowly reading and replying.
I have very recently (since DD was born) developed a fear of driving over tall bridges. I realized this as I had a sudden small panic attack while driving on one (with the entire fam) that I had driven on many times before. I didn't say anything to DH in case it was a one time deal. It wasn't. I have severe anxiety about it and avoided it the next time I had to drive it. I finally told him and he was sympathetic. He'll drive next time we need to cross that bridge and I'll see how I do as a passenger. That was some scary shit, though!
I've become more afraid of flying without the kids. I went on a ladies trip before LO but I was scared that if something happened DD1 would be without me for the rest of her life. It didn't help that all those planes kept disappearing in Asia at the time.
I'm also scared of deep water. I tried snorkeling for all of 5 minutes and had to stop and wouldn't go the rest of the trip.
We had wolf spiders and black widows at the house I grew up in. Ive been spooked by them more than once my sister has a real honest to goodness spider phobia. Probably because she's been bitten by wolf spiders a few times. Nasty things!

Thanks to this I will never take another taxi again in my life.

Oh my goodness I have this too. Whenever I'm on the highway and can see over an edge with a far drop I imagine myself accidentally driving over it and get filled with total terror. Then I look in the rear view and see the kids and get even more terrified. Vivid feeling of falling amd yelling I love you to the kids before we crash to our deaths. It's terrible. There is an area of highway near us that goes over a huge quarry and I avoid it at all costs.
Lovely to look at outside. Do NOT bring one near me.
Spiders I'm getting braver with. We get huge white tails inside all the time so I've had to learn to deal with them. Still don't love them at all though.

jags8, That makes me want to die. @pennygirl2013, OMG. I might have lit my purse on fire had this happened to me.
Seriously this thread is the thing of nightmares
Add me to the list of being freaked out by spiders, thousand leggers (is this a regional name?), and any insect with creepy crawly legs. Including butterflies (at least close up). We used to be required to raise butterflies from caterpillars for our science unit and I would cry and beg my coworker to feed them and later release them for me I just couldn't do it! I also get a little freaked out by goldfish. One had jumped out of a tank at a pet store when I was little and I didn't see it and stepped on it. (And I just threw up in my mouth a little recalling it...) I swear they just trigger the memory. Shudder.

This makes me feel less crazy. I have those scenarios in my head too. One time I was driving by a gross pond, and I imagined losing control of the car and driving into it, and how I would I save DS and get out before the car filled with water...
shananagins omg where have you been?! You never hang out with us anymore!
I am like the suckiest TCFer!!! I was on vacation and then I've been getting my classroom ready and DH is working 10 days back to back so I'm single-parenting it 8-16 hours a day, depending! Planning to come hang out more regularly!
I am irrationally terrified of water I can't touch the bottom in. Like I freak the f out if I can't touch. Mind you, I know how to swim, I just cannot do it in deep water.
Also, I'm on the spider train, at least with big spiders. I can kill little ones no problem, but I'd rather burn the house down then mess with the big ones! Luckily my cat kills spiders for me! She leaves the bodies lying around though...

Our first apartment had so. many. spiders. And our cat was a very good girl and killed them all for me. I never actually saw any of them after she chased them down, so I just assumed she ate them all. Except when we moved out a few months later and moved the couch, I found them. All of them. It was like a goddamned spider graveyard under there...

Yuck!!!!!!!!! I f'ing hate spider bodies! I always fear that are going to spring back to life and kill me! (I'm a rational person I swear! )
