Hi! I vote daily threads as we still have new people trickling in and a weekly randoms thread will quickly get to be super long and be intimidating to jump in on. Just my 2 cents.
I have my intake appointment tonight and I'm so nervous for some reason. I'm sure they're just going to have me do another pee test and then let me schedule my first real appointment but I keep getting nervous that maybe this was all a dream or something and they're going to tell me I'm not really pregnant. I know it's dumb but I can't help it.
Am I the only one that already has a list of questions? They range from silly FTM things to things I really need to ask my dr about. I think we need a running thread to ask these things. Anyone agree?
Yes. I need help with questions.
I can share mine so far:
-Any Zika precautions for my area?
-I've been on a vegan diet, is it ok to continue?
-Is it ok to continue working to lose weight and if so, for how long?
-Is it ok for me to pass through the metal detector/scanner at the airport?
I can google and get answers to a lot of these but would rather hear directly from my doc.
ThankfulSnail , good luck with your appointment today! When will they have you come in for the real appointment?
ETA: The one place I called said they schedule first appointments after the initial intake appointment at 10-12 weeks. Is that typical?
I'm not sure when they'll schedule me. When I was pregnant with DD, they wanted to schedule me when I was between 9-12 weeks. I think it depends on your OB.
Usually the first "real" appointment they want to do an ultrasound and there isn't much to see before that point.

I've been mostly off sugar for about 6 months but this weekend DD was really excited about a cookie making video she saw so I thought we'd try baking cookies together. She was not really interested in the whole baking thing, more interested in playing with measuring cups in the sink, but the cookies turned out amaaazing. BUT since I've been off sugar for so long, I was able to eat just 2 and feel totally content instead of binging on a whole dozen in a sitting. I'm looking forward to having another one or two as a treat after dinner tonight.

Yep. I have intake at 8 weeks but then the next appointment from there is the 11-13 week ultrasound. Then it's one appointment a month for a while. First tri is generally pretty boring appointment wise, your GP or RE has already done all the necessary blood tests and if everything is going well it's just a lot of waiting.

What happens at the intake appointment? Sorry, I'm such a noob.

Here's a question...I'm still seeing an RE but when should I call my midwife? Do I have to do a separate intake with them or will they just pick up where the RE left off? I was thinking I should call soon in case her schedule is pretty full.

I'm feeling so indecisive about everything, choosing hospitals, OB vs. midwife... I'm so unprepared for pregnancy decision-making.
I hear you. I found an office with both OBs and midwives with decent reviews that I'm going to try out. The hospital they deliver at has private rooms and a level three NICU. Most importantly, they take our insurance.

I'm also in the care of an RE now and she told me today she will see me until 8 or 9 weeks and then to make an appt with my usual OB. Can't wait to be done with this PIO my ass is done for!

Every practice is a little different but it's generally a bit of a get to know us situation. This is who we are, this is where we deliver, here's what we do and how often you'll be seeing us. They'll probably go over any prenatal concerns and take a basic health history. They may take weight and bp just to get a baseline.
You'll probably talk a little bit about any genetic testing you want to do and then they'll schedule you (or you will be soon) for an NT scan which includes an ultrasound and a blood test.
Things are always changing obviously but I would say it's still pretty uncommon to have an ultrasound before your NT if you are having a healthy pregnancy and there's no reason to doubt your dates. With my daughter my first ultrasound was 13 weeks.

FWIW my RE told me to find my preferred OB or Midwife now. However I'm used to pretty competitive midwife environments so I called them pretty much the second I knew I had a blood positive.
As far as the intake goes? Both? They'll definitely take any info from your RE on how your pregnancy is going but the intake appointment is also kind of like a date to make sure the practice is the right place for you so it's still important to do.

The scanners are perfectly safe to pass through while pregnant. They use non-ionizing electromagnetic waves and not x-rays to get the images. If you are uncomfortable though, you can opt out and they will do a pat down and swab your hands.
