Jumping into the OB vs Midwive chat. The Ob practice I go to has midwives. I mostly saw my Ob throughout last pregnancy, then when I got admitted, it's all midwives doing the work. Doctors are there on call for c sections and other complications though. It's all done at a birthing center next door to a hospital, so it was pretty fabulous. Also, I loved my epidural haha

I planned on an epi with DS, but once I got to the hospital, my labor progressed too fast. So his birth was unintentionally au natural. It was obviously do-able, but this time I will be arriving early to get my epi!
Has anyone here had 2 csections? I had a csection with my first, and my twins. I really don't want a csection again but I don't know if my dr will even consider a VBA2C. My first visit was with a APRN so I didn't see my dr to even ask. But the thought of another csection makes me so anxious. I probably should have thought of that before I got pregnant again. Oops.
I have had 2. My first appointment is in the 30th. I'm really hoping for a vbac! My 1st 2 were 18 months apart. I was Always told you want to wait 18 months to get pregnant after a section so I opted for a second. These two will be 2.5 years apart so I think I'm good.

Has anyone here had a med-free birth? I was unhappy with my epidural with DD- I still had a lot of pain, and I had to push for a very long time because I couldn't feel the contractions so I wasn't pushing at the right time- and I wonder if I'd have a better birth experience if I went med-free. BUT I have a very low pain tolerance so I'm not sure I could handle it.

Mine wasn't med-free, but I was able to tell the anesthesiologist (is that what they're called? Epiduralist? lol) how much I "wanted to feel" and what my pain level was. My first one came out, so I had to do it twice, but overall was really happy with my experience. Perhaps you can request a lower dose?

The plan right now is for my mom to watch baby twice a week. She would prefer to do this at her house. Which is perfectly fine with me. My mom has zero baby stuff. What kinds of things should I register for two of or plan to buy two of so she has one at her house too? Right now all I can think of is a second booster/high chair.
mustloveerica something for baby to nap in when tiny and when bigger--Rock and play, pack and play, crib, swing, etc. Changing Pad. Play mat for the floor. Spoons and such. Car seat/car seat base. Stroller so you don't have to take yours to her constantly. Baby proofing stuff--outlet plugs, baby gates, etc.
My mom kept it simple. She had a pack n play for naps. And a bouncer type seat. Then whatever toys. She always had a spare bottle at her house incase we forgot to put one in the diaper bag. For car seats, we left the carry one with him. Then she got a convertible one when he got bigger.

Hmmm stroller might be problematic. I definitely don't want to haul my stroller back and forth but I know she will want to walk. Any recs for cheap infant friendly and sidewalk friendly strollers?

flat0422 My midwife said to avoid any exercise where I'm sweating a lot. She said to absolutely avoid my low heat yoga (room is at 82 degrees) but I'm not sure about spin. She said the neural tube defects that can occur from your increased body temp is just not worth the risk. If you're questioning it, I would probably find another workout to do.
Garage sales and consignment sales are great places to get extra baby supplies for care takers. Especially strollers.
+1.
Also, if anyone who is offering free baby stuff for you, take it! We got a lot of "big ticket" items (ie. swing/bouncer/RNP/bumbo) from friends whose baby out grew it. It was great, especially at the rate babies grow out of/stop using things.
I loved getting hand-me-downs... DD started daycare after my 12 week maternity leave, so the amount of time she actually used things was so minimal before she grew out of them.

The low end one is $40 at BRU new. I got that one for my parents, but I easily could have gotten it at a garage sale.
Is anyone trading their single stroller in for a double? I really like our city mini gt, and I'm sad that I might have to get something else. The double version of this stroller seems huge and expensive.
Also, how do you grocery shop (alone) with a toddler and infant? I'm like freaking out about how to do anything with 2 small humans.
I was planning on it, but my sister is gifting me her City double that her kids are out growing! It is a honking stroller, but if it's free, it's for me.
I plan on shopping with toddler in seat in cart and wearing the baby!
currently freaking out about how to shop with a 2 yo, 1 yo, AND a newborn!! ack.
I wanted to be natural with #1 but long story short, I had to be induced a week and 4 days after my EDD for leaking water, GBS, and low AFI and pitocin contractions SUCK. Basically the same thing happened with #2. Both times I got epidurals several hours or a day after beginning, and the rest of the induced labor just flew by so wonderfully and peacefully. I was in such a good mental state to push and deliver and I had no problem bearing down and having enough sensation to know what my lower half was doing. Definitely don't feel guilty or ashamed if you go that route. I put myself through so much mental anguish because I thought I'd failed BUT dang, it was such a good call for me personally.
ETA: I had a standard OB practice for #1, midwife for #2 (still got an epidural, ha), and am with a standard practice this time.

Yes! I feel the exact same way with the mental state comment, and absolutely felt the urge/need to push (without the pain of contractions). I had no problem moving my legs and getting down to business. Epidurals are wonderful, wonderful things.

+1 mine was a game day decision though... I was supposed to be induced that morning but woke up in labor shortly before midnight so imagine the hospital's surprise when I walk in for my induction having contractions 2-3 minutes apart. I made it until 7-8am (5cm) before asking for the epi. I then proceeded to pass out and take a nap. I woke up when I started to feel pressure to push. Took less than 20 minutes from when I started pushing before he was out. My OB barely made it to the room. The nurses were coming up with a game plan on who was going to catch DS while the other took care of me and helped hold my legs up while my H had the other leg.
I did have a nasty headache for about a week after which they said was probably related to getting the epi. This time, I'm planning on an epi but will plan to go without if need be as my platelets were almost too low to get one last time

So the packet of info my RE gave me says avoid any dental procedures in the first trimester. Is that true? Do I need to reschedule the cleaning appointment I have for next week?

You're fine. The X-ray is fine. The dentist will know how to handle you.

So do I have to tell them? Like hey just so you know I'm KU?

It's advisable that you do so they can take the necessary precautions and only do necessary work, use appropriate shielding, etc. That said, no, you don't have to but it's better to do so if you're comfortable with it so they don't do anything that isn't necessary or give you unsafe medications.
