I started thinking about what I needed to buy for myself to prepare for after the birth. I was discussing with my boss and she said that the Tucks pad were awesome to wipe after a vaginal birth so I will be adding that to my list this time.
Last time I used pads frozen with witch hazel, the earth mama angel bottom spray, a squirt bottle and pads (not Always because of the mesh that can get caught in the stiches). I think I used the Medela nipple cream too.
I purchased my preferred brand of thunder pads and I plan on taking as many of those hospital ice packs as they will allow. Also going to purchase a hemorrhoid pillow.

My hemorrhoid pillow was just delivered! Even if you don't end up having them (lucky you), if you have a vaginal birth, it's incredibly sore and uncomfortable to sit.
Breast pads are good. Also a fan for your hospital bag! My doula had a hand held fan last time and they all rotated fanning me because I was so incredibly hot. Yesterday I went an bought an 11" Vornado so they can help with other things lol.

I've bought pads, a few nursing bras/tanks, and a lightweight robe since the one I had already was fleece. I bought those Always Infinity ones so I don't think I can make padcicles out of those. Didn't think of that...

Yes to everything. I also took the medela gel sticky pad things and stuck them in the fridge. I used them for a couple of weeks when I was really sore. They're pricey, though. So if your hospital offers them, stock up!!
I got a hemorrhoid pillow at the hospital that they let me take home. I'm going to ask for one this time around as well.
1. Robe 2. Tucks pads 3. Hemorrhoid cream (from the hospital) 4. Dermaplast spray (from the hospital) 5. Stock up on handy / easy to eat snacks (nuts, string cheese, granola bars etc) 6. A pack of large and cheap underwear from target so I don't ruin any of my nice underwear 7. Target breast pads (seriously the best disposable ones) 8. Lansinoh nipple cream
Yes to everything! Don't forget breast pads! My boobs ran like a faucet the first few weeks especially when I got out of the shower. I liked johnsons disposable pads the best!

Do hospitals typically provide you with a peri bottle? Or should I be looking to buy one? They seem to be a popular suggestion on postpartum personal care lists.

My hospital provided. They gave me the one I used there to take home as well as leftover tucks pads and dermoplast.
I would also recommend two types of pads and a lot of them. One heavy option and a lighter option. Frankly I think I bled for like 4-5w but 2 of those were fine for a pantyliner.
Thanks for starting this post sodapop. This is all stuff I really should take care of this weekend!
I'm now making a big list and adding it all to my Target registry since I still haven't used my completion discount.
Postpartum is what I should have used in the title, lol. Pregnancy brain at its best. I can't even blame it on English being my 2nd language since we use the same term in French...

I have lots of pads. They're all Always Infinity though so hopefully I continue to like them enough.
**trigger warning** I forgot I had a bunch left over after my loss and I bought a bunch more this past weekend. **end trigger warning** So now I have quite the supply. A bit annoyed with myself actually that I have so many now, but I already threw away the receipt.
I also loved the mesh panties from the hospital. I stole what I could. I used the always disposable underwear when I ran out with a pad inside. I bleed pretty heavily for six weeks.
I also bought a sitz bath but generally preferred to just sit in the tub with some epsom salt. Helped soothe my stitched perineum (2nd degree tear) and the roids.

Ditto to all of this.
Also, right now Target is giving a $5 gc if you buy 3 boxes of always products. I'm stocking up today. I'm an infinity fan too, I got the big pack of regular pads from Costco last time and I wish I had my always infinitys lol I didn't really need the padsicle after the hospital.

- I preferred the Lansinoh breast pads but I'm considering reusable this time. Anybody have any recs? I remember thiscoffeechick had a good rec for ones that catch milk when you're nursing on the other side.
- pack of cheap panties. - extra tucks/witch hazel pads, I used those for awhile. - I saw a zip up moo moo at kohls that looks great for nursing. - nursing tanks. - like cbowl said, snacks that are easy to eat while nursing. Also, straws, I always had a huge cup of water and found it easier to drink from a straw. - colace! That first postpartum poop is scary! They gave me it with my ibuprofen I'm the hospital but I kept taking it for a few days after I got home.
I think I'll try a hemmroid pillow this time. I'm lucky that I didn't have to deal with those last time (and hopefully this time!) but I bruised my tailbone during birth and it hurt to sit for a couple weeks.

Yes to colace, mesh underwear, witch hazel pads, lots of thick monster pads in general!
I remember using Dermaplast like it was crack last time. Went through at least 3 cans of it during postpartum recovery after my episiotomy. I should probably just stock up now.

serendipity731 I loved my reusable breast pads. I tried the disposables once and they were so itchy I wanted to cry. I have some that are home made that are my fave, but I also bought a 4 pack of organic cotton ones from BRU that I like a lot, too. Bamboobies are expensive and I didn't care for them... They were almost too big for my boobs and folded in weird spots.

+1 to Colace. I was so terrified of that first poop I was taking milk of magnesia. Which by the way a little goes a long way. You really don't want to take too much

I definitely prefer the reusable breast pads. I have a bunch from one of those sites that sends you 6 pairs just for shipping (breastpads.com maybe? I got the coupon from motherhood maternity or something) and a few from etsy. They're so nice and I just throw them in the wash.
serendipity731 I didn't like the reusable pads until my supply regulated...I felt like I had to change them too often and it just added to my laundry. But after 3 months, I started using bamboobies - and I loved them.

A thousand times yes to tucks pads and /or cooling gel and the hemmie pillow, cheap granny panties, disposable nursing pads, lanolin for nipples.
The peri bottle the hospital gives you is a lifesaver, as well as the giant insulated water cup (I'm planning to ask for an extra one this time if they're feeling generous, they're so handy to have to keep up with post-partum/nursing thirst.)
Oh I have another! I stole a couple of these from the hospital.
When they move you to postpartum, your bed will have a square "blanket/pad" under where you sit, that way if you bleed through, it doesn't ruin the sheets and you just have to change the pad thing. Which, oh by the way, is machine washable!!! I was so happy to have them because it saved my personal bedsheets a couple times from blood and urine from DS's penis not being pointed straight down.
