I haven't had it before so I'm not sure, but I would call your OB. Unfortunately, it's the weekend now though. Is there an advice nurse line you can consult?

My OB covered my care (oral Diflucan), pedi covered DD2 (I forget the name, but a 4x a day oral drug). You want to treat both at once and sterilize everything.

That was me, in the breastfeeding thread. I really hope you don't end up having it, as I am finding it to be a huge pain in the ass.
I started having shooting, stabbing pains in my breasts and nipples. They were also itchy and they burned. I felt like I was engorged even after I had just fed dd-just a very full and uncomfortable feeling. My nipples were a dark purple sometimes and red at other times. Even with all of this, I didn't actually realize anything was wrong.
I took DD to the pedi for what I thought was a bad diaper rash and that's when she and I were both diagnosed with a yeast infection. We were given a topical ointment (nystatin) to use on both of us. I was told that if I didn't have relief in 5 days to call my OB for diflucan.
Upon talking to my PCP about diflucan, I was told I cannot breastfeed after taking it (she said for 7 days). I do plan to follow up about that with my OB if the nystatin doesn't work, though, because I thought it was safe to take while nursing. gratefulgirl, did you take it while nursing?
If LO doesn't have any symptoms, I'd call your OB for diagnosis and treatment.

Fuck.
My boob feels exactly the same minus the red/purple. But I'm also black and have pretty dark nipples anyway so maybe that's why.
Is the ointment helping? I hope you and LO both feel better soon.
Oh no, I'm really sorry it sounds like you may have this
Unfortunately, the ointment hasn't helped me, but it has helped dd (she has it on both her face and her bottom).
Eta: hit post too soon. Just fyi, I also think I have a vaginal yeast infection...so keep your eyes open for potential symptoms of that, too. I guess it can be common to have it in both areas. I'm waiting for results from a urinalysis my pcp did. I would have gone through my ob but they didn't have any available appts. So if you cant reach your ob, you could try calling your pcp for help.

ivehearditbothways - I was nursing DD2 at the time. It has been 2 years so my memory is fuzzy, but I know I was given a fast acting oral and they knew I was nursing. Maybe it wasn't Diflucan?
@suesposa literally everytime I've had a pressing q for OB, it's been a Friday night.
It's a conspiracy I tell ya smh. My OB actually does have an after hours service. They paged the oncall and he called right away. He's a man. That has never breastfed. He had no advice 😒. He said to try to hold out til monday or go to urgent care. My reg ob has 3 children and breastfed them all. I'm sure she would have been more helpful.
Tricare told me to call my primary care tomorrow. I told them they're closed on the weekend..she told me to just call back for further instruction tomorrow then. WTF. I chased my tail all night. I cannot wait for urgent care to open in the morning.
Wtf. I don't care if an ob hasn't personally breastfed. He should still know about and understand how to treat yeast infections. It sucks you're getting the run around with doctors. I hope you get some answers tomorrow

I had this response too. My OB views it as their responsibility to care for my health regarding BFing
LO wouldn't cooperate this morning so we couldn't get there when they first opened. Now, according to their website, it is a 1.5hr wait time. I wish they had an online check in system. So now I'm trying to decide if I want to have LO in there with the sickies all day or just try to wait until monday. My boob wasn't bothering me last night but that could change at any moment I know.
Bah. I should have picked an OB with weekend hours.
Does your pedi have weekend hours? Mine would have treated me but they offered ointment while my OB offered something oral (which I think I remember calling the pedi to double check safety, now that I think of it). You need to treat you and LO at the same time or you can end up passing it back and forth.
