This came up in my Pinterest feed, a list of 30 ways to help newborn fussing. I was impressed with how comprehensive it was.
I'm glad this list mentions overstumulation. We definitely didn't realize how easily an infant can become overstimulated until DS1 was a few months old, and could have saved ourselves a lot of stressful screaming fits
@suesposa, is there someone else in the office you can make an appt with? I'd be pissed if I were you- especially if you're putting out copays and she's wasting your time and just prolonging the pain for your baby
Well today is the day I fire my pedi smh. I've asked her twice for Zantac and she offered alternatives, none of which are working. I messaged her again last night and she wants him to come in for a weight check and to discuss other options.
Lady, idgaf how much weight he's gained or what happened with your other patients. Give me wtf I'm asking for because my child is miserable and I owe if to him to at least try. If it doesn't work, fine. But maybe it will. Cut the shit lady.
I wish pedis would realize that reflux and tongue tie don't result in poor weight gain of babies have a strong suck or mom has an oversupply. It was an NP/LC who pushed me to put DD2 on Zantac. It was not a cure all, but we did think it helped.

I do kind of wonder what people did before gas and reflux were the universal newborn culprits. The way my mom tells it, I clearly had silent reflux (and was way overtired and overstimulated), but she was told colic and to just deal. DH and his siblings were hard babies too, but MIL never talks about gas or reflux.
It makes me wonder - if I didn't correlate knees to chest as gas or a high pitched scream as reflux, what might I do differently and would it work?
Pedis are trained in medicine but they aren't trained in YOUR baby. Just like how labor or labor signs are different for every woman, the "norms" that doctors describe are a commonality, not a universal truth. Trust your gut, suesposa.
This kid spent a lot of today crying. It's definitely gas pains. He's got a docs appt Friday. Im hoping he feels better in the next few days with me cutting dairy.

Has he been checked for tongue and lip tie? Another option if dairy doesn't work,

I'll ask about that too!!
So DH comes home, kid is sleeping. He hasn't slept much at all today. DH goes to supermarket, kid cries. DH gets home, kid is sleeping on my chest. I put him down and he's been sleeping in his RNP since DH got home. He's making me look like a liar!!!

Same thing happens to me. I said today "She was screaming before you came in." Then when DD started up again, H put her in the RNP and she was quiet for 4 hours. Damn him.

So we've done like 95% of these including get acid reflux med and he's still a fuss ass all day. Literally if he's not sleeping he's fussing. Is this something to even bring up to the doctor or I feel like all they can do is suggest all these items that we've already tried. Wtf I'm sorry but I'm fucking hating my life right now and I'm just like wicked disappointed that my baby drives me nuts and I'm not enjoying this time.

Try another reflux med. we did Prevacid for DD2. A friend after 6 months (!) of hating life and no more than 2 hours of sleep ever had success with Prilosec.
Other than that, maybe a strict elimination diet or allergy friendly formula?
ETA: this time is hard, especially in your shoes. Be gentle with yourself. It gets better.
Annnnd his skin isn't peeling as much. Could be a coincidence, or his skin just improving as he's getting older but it definitely makes me wonder.
I hope it is helping.
But FWIW, DD3's skin is doing the same just due to time. I say this only in case you decide to reintroduce dairy at some point.
I want to say this is good! Because maybe dairy isn't the issue and I really just want an ice cream cone with rainbow jimmies! But I'd also love to know what's going on with this little guys belly.
I wish I kept count of how many times this kid poops in a day, because it would seriously be about 25!
Now the pattern I've noticed is she gets really fussy and escalates to shrill screaming right before she poops. She's not really straining, and she has that runny yellow BF poop. Anyone have any insight into why she would scream like that?

We go through the same thing here. The pedi said the screaming helps her push it out.

I'm kind of picturing how tennis players need to make noise while hitting the ball 😀

I have pulled out my last resort tummy trouble solution - a sick filled with rice. I gently warm in microwave to newborn bath water temp. Then I zip/tuck into swaddle. It does two things: 1) mimic having a warm hand on tummy and 2) help those muscles relax to ease pain. I leave it in for naps as needed.
It is my last resort because you aren't supposed to dress babies too warmly, but it works when nothing else will.
There's a product on the market called Happi Tummy that is the same idea, only with herbs that are supposed to promote good sleep added.
I was surprised that my pedi actually recommended Gripe Water. She even gave me samples and coupons. We used it a lot with DS1 but for some reason I had the idea in my head that pedis don't like it.
