Just got back from the pediatrician. Both babies are growing great. M grew almost a pound in a week!
In the hospital we agreed not just to the normal newborn genetic screen (PKU etc) but also some additional tests that they are trying to get added to the list. It turns out G tested positive for one of those. Our pediatrician didn't tell us which one because she says there are a lot of false positives and she doesn't want me googling before we retest. It will take 1-2 weeks to get results and I am trying not to freak out but of course I am really nervous. And it took them 3 heel sticks to get the blood and she was SCREAMING the whole time.
39+6 today... 40wk appt at noon. I woke up wanting to cry at how much my back hurt earlier. I love my bed, but it isn't even comfy anymore. I don't wake up more than once to pee/turn over, and I am a pretty unmoving sleeper, so I get so stiff without even little movements at night due to this beach ball on my belly.
I'm here. Getting up to pee at night takes a few minutes. Sit up, regroup. Stand up, regroup. Few steps, regroup.
The hips and pelvis, man. Not good.
Of course, I get up about once an hour to pee so I'm used to this game. Turning over is impossible. IMPOSSIBLE.

I haven't read the thread yet but had a question. Yesterday I started getting abdominal cramps and diarrhea like my IBS. Wasn't too worried because it's happened a couple times this pregnancy due to IBS. Well, the diarrhea hasn't stopped and TMI it's very watery and while I don't have nausea, there's lots of tummy gurgling and the occasional cramping. I'm worried I have salmonella or something similar and things I've read say that it can be dangerous to the baby. I have an appt in an hour so I will be talking to my OB about it but has anyone had food poisoning while pregnant and have everything be ok??
Part of what has me worried is I stupidly used a baby wipe to clean some bird poop off my car yesterday and then drove home and forgot to wash my hands. I'm worried I got some on my hands and now I've got some sickness that will affect my baby! Ugh! This is not what I need!
Someone please tell me why the hell I tried to put on a pair of pre-pregnancy shorts at 9 days pp. I have a drawer full of perfectly good transitional sizes and now I just feel gross.
I do this about daily. All my shorts were purchased at my tiniest. I have jeans in transitional sizes, but it is 90 out. So I am rocking maternity shorts and grumpy. Can't wait until jeans and leggings weather.

If it was one of the metabolic panels, DS2 also tested positive and turned out to be totally fine. Apparently false positives are very common with the newborn screenings bc they have trouble getting a big enough blood sample. FX that your little is just fine!

Honestly, I've had an upset stomach (gurgly, diarrhea, lots of cramping) since last Monday (39w0d). Originally, I got excited because I thought my body was "emptying out" for labor. 14 days later, I realize it's just changing hormones at the end of pregnancy.

joy Ya I had read the same thing and honestly my bowels have been a lot "looser" for a week or so now so I had thought the same thing. Glad to know it could be harmless but yes I'll be asking him about it

Whoa. Switched DD3 from Miracle Blanket to Woombie. She woke up just now, looked around, and zonked back out in the crib!
This may not happen again for months, until she consistently puts herself to sleep, so I'm celebrating. I guess she likes not fighting the Miracle Blanket.

It could be different for you, of course! The only reason I didn't even bring it up with my doctor was because I felt exactly like this at the beginning of pregnancy and it was really common during ovulation/my period. The changing hormones like to eff my lower intestines.
Prostoglandin levels rise at the end of pregnancy to soften the cervix and that change is associated with stomach unrest, among other things. But, it's also entirely possible that you have a touch of something. I hope your OB makes you feel better!

gratefulgirl yup! Miracle blanket was great for one night then he hated it. I found he loves the halo sleep sack swaddle with his arms out so I just ordered another on Amazon, since he keeps spitting up on his only one.
dc2london I'm frigen dying to wear my maxi dresses but can't because of nursing
ameliabird sounds like normal clearing out to me, good luck
bocaburger yay great weight gain. Don't stress too much about the test

I just shove the boob part of the maxi dress down when I BF, lol.

I have nearly every swaddle on the market between my 3 Houdinis. Each has been a little stronger than the last. DD3 could bust out of the MB (!) and was turning it into basically a loose blanket. Sadly she can't sleep arms free. Woombie is our compromise.

spicysalmonroll spit up is the enemy. I have like 6 swaddled for that very reason! But then again, they were on sale when I bought them. Miracle blanket is like $30!
just scheduled consults for a vasectomy for DH and a possible adenoidectomy for DS1. Apparently we are trying to reach our OOP max this plan year. Still need to go pick up 4 epipens too .

nice we're thinking vasectomy as well but I'm making him wait like a year because I know it's unlikely but I'm paranoid about something like sids, in which case I'd want to have another (we only have this one). I'm so glad we have great health insurance... I have no idea what our limits are because we've never paid more than $100 for any service.

That's great that you have good insurance! We....do not. Lol

Ditto. OOP max is getting hit this year so I'm making sure we get in ANY appts we need.
I was afraid to say it and jinx it, but yesterday DD seemed like her usual self. No refluxy back arching and crying. So IDK what was different on Wednesday, but yesterday was great
DS had days like this too. The pedi has me adding a tsp of rice cereal to his bottles before we try meds because he is still gaining weight very well. I'm really uneasy about doing this, but it's worked. the milk is just thick enough to keep it down.
I just signed DS up for an infant swim class. I'm excited to get out of the house and do something. Plus, I can't swim. I took lessons, but hated the water. I can float and not drown, that's it. I want him to be comfortable in the water.
H took DD to grandma's again. They just moved into a new house, so he is helping a lot lately. Baby and I got a nap together on the couch. It felt amazing!
I went to my doc appt and had another NST, and doc wasn't too thrilled with just how mellow baby is. He is worried about placenta possibly getting old, so he ordered a bpp for this afternoon... if it isn't an 8/8 we will be inducing right away. He did check my cervix again, and I am at a 3, and frankly, I have been having mild contractions today, too.
If bpp is perfect, I have another appt on Monday, and we will induce no later than next Friday.
Just all at once, yikes! I need to make lunch and make sure my hospital bag is good and everything. At least my mom is actually able to watch DD, even overnight, here at my home. It was our preferred scenario, but most days of the week, she wouldn't be able to be overnight. Soooo.... yeah. Blabbermouth brain is going a million miles an hour right now.
Evening. We had our 1 month appointment today. My piggy gained 2 pounds in 2 weeks, 8 lb 5 oz! For being born at 34 weeks, she's not really a preemie size and my insides and lady parts are thankful for that since my due date is not even until this Thursday (9/1)
My 2 month old is a 10 pounder! It's nice to see some rolls after looking so emaciated for those first few weeks. She is 10% unadjusted (he couldn't get adjusted to work) so we are on the growth chart. She got her shots and doesn't seem all that irritated other than her legs are sore. I also got the standard line about gas and constipation taking a while to resolve since they are growing so fast at this point. She doesn't have to go back for 2 months so I'm hoping we make it that long!
We lost power in our neighboorhood for about 3 to 4 hours. How would I know if my bm stash is ok?? H opened the freezer once to get ice and I screamed at him to keep it shut. I guess I'll defrost a bag tonight and see if it is still good.
spicysalmonroll I use the extra mattress. I had no shame in it. It still was to hard, but they at least slept a bit better. I think my bassinet goes up to 15lbs so we still have a bit before making the decision.
