Babies are starting to fuss less between nighttime feedings and go down easier when they finish eating. Yay! But the fragmented sleep still gets to me. Thank goodness for my one coffee a day!
Also I have throw out a full ounce of breastmilk :-(
Also, I was just scrolling through the birth announcement thread and thinking about twinkie0612. Anyone heard from her? Twinkie I'm sure you're busy taking care of your baby but if you ever have a chance to come update us, I'd love to know how you and she are doing!
I overtired the baby. I just don't know how to feed her and get her back down quickly as she likes while the 2 (on Thursday) year old is yelling "hungry" over and over until breakfast. Ditto with bedtime. There is just no way to stay under an hour awake at these times.
Through some trial and error, I think I have determined that my afternoon cuppa is not bothering DD. Thank goodness, bc it keeps me, you know, upright.

PWing it up.
DH is nearly always right on the kids' sleep issues. He told me after last night's fuss fest that maybe DD3 just wanted her crib. Today when she started up fussing I got her barely asleep and put her down ASAP somewhere between drowsy and light sleep. Bam - no hours of screaming.
Too bad I can't get him to take over MOTN, because apparently then we'd have awesome sleepers.

I am always amazed by these babies who just want to be put in their cribs and go to sleep.
Morning. We are already having a rough day. DD is eating every 2 hours now (she used to go 3-4) and yells when she wakes up and is hungry. We are supposed to visit H at work today but if I can't get a shower first we are not going.
Well it's not. Went to the supermarket with baby in the Tula and he threw up everywhere. All over me, himself, the carrier. I just wanted to be productive today.
I need a break.
Tomorrow is my 30th birthday, DH is off. Maybe I'll pump a bunch, prep some bottles, and just not leave my bed.
Hi I've been offline for a week or so, but wanted to pop in and say hi. DD #1 is still being a lunatic, but the baby is doing well! steph I hope your day gets better baby puke in the grocery store really sucks.

Good morning!
So, I'm sure I'll be cursed tonight for sharing this, but DS slept SO WELL last night! Yesterday I was reading stuff about getting breastfed babies to STTN (I know it's wayyyy too early for that, but I'd still love to have some rules of thumb in mind) and I read to nurse a lot in the hours leading up to bedtime - which, for DS, was at least half of every hour from 5pm- 11pm. That was seriously rough, but... He then slept from midnight to 4:30am!!! According to my Fitbit, I slept for almost 3.5 hours of that, which is the longest stretch I've had since we got home from the hospital. At 4:30, I changed him and he nursed for about 25 minutes and was back asleep in his crib by 5am, and he then slept until about 6:45. In total, I got almost 6 hours of sleep last night and I feel incredible. That's two night in a row that I wasn't brought to tears from exhaustion. Keeping all my fingers and toes crossed that this streak continues!
In other news, I want to order a new swaddle-thing. I'm torn between the miracle blanket and the woombie. We've been using a Swaddle Me, but I hate the Velcro and DS's hands always seem to find their way out of it. Opinions?
hummingbird125, I've never used the miracle blanket or woombie, but I am liking the Halo swaddle sleep sack, but it does have Velcro.
Managed to get all 3 kids to the dentist by 9 am, so that felt like an accomplishment! No cavities for the big girls and the baby slept the whole time so that was a win.

steph That's no good! I hope your afternoon settles down. Otherwise your birthday plan sounds like a win.
My kindergartener got her first tardy slip today. Our week and a half streak of getting everyone dressed, fed & out of the house on time was good while it lasted. ....My new favorite thing is seeing my big kids cheering on the baby like she is competing in the Tummy Time Olympics. It's the best.
My mission today is to nap and enjoy the baby snuggles! I realized bc I'm nursing I feel like I only hold him when feeding..so want to try to hold him more when he's not eating. So far so good.
DD had a longer stretch of sleep last night and I woke up feeling like a new woman. But then I felt awful when I walked to the bassinet and saw she had clearly slept in a huge spot of spit up. It was cold and dried in her hair:(

We loved the miracle blanket with #1 it worked really well until we we ready to unswaddle.

hummingbird125 - it depends. A baby with astringent startle might not be controlled enough by the Woombie. Also all my kids could get a hand out the neck (but not a full arm) or knock a paci out in it. DD3 loves it, though. Her startle is on the milder side and she likes having her hands up.
A Houdini baby who needs arms firmly down will be a good Miracle Blanket baby. It is a bit of a pain to wrap. You can actually use a receiving blanket and a Swaddle Me to mimic one - there are YouTube videos I can try to find if you want.

You have inspired me to research this more. Because I am getting desperate! So I'm reading all about how nighttime breastmilk is different than daytime breastmilk. We have been exclusively pumping and slowly transitioning to breastfeeding but is going really slow. When I pump I put the newest milk and back and so it actually probably ends up being that she gets my pumped milk from earlier in the day at night and then the next day she gets my milk from middle of the night pumping during the day. Wonder if this is why she sleeps better during the day?
To the idea of nursing more often I've been trying to do the opposite because the LC said she needs to get used to getting the "3 course meal" and not just "snacking on appetizers all day" aka only getting that early skim milk and not the fattening milk. Ugh what's the right answer?!
just got a call from ucsf...R's heart surgery will be next tuesday and we go to ucsf on monday (labor day). so soon. he will be spending his one month birthday at the cardiac icu.

The Babywise/Secrets of the Baby Whisperer crowd (which includes all my friends who have good sleepers) would say that you focus on full meals most of the day, but that in the early evening you do cluster feed. For the BW people that means 3 hour feeds most of the day and 2 hour intervals in the evening - at least that's the schedule I've seen.
I only had one who got herself on the 3 hour feed schedule early, and she refused to cluster feed. But some people manage to feed their kids whenever the parents want and it somehow works.
