I'm being forced to attend a happy hour tomorrow with a few people from our firm and some clients. It will be a small group, and I have no idea how I'm going to hide not drinking. I'm getting anxious just thinking about it.
Club soda with lime - tell the bartender you are KU and don't want anyone to know you are not drinking

So I successfully navigated my first cocktail. I went in the back room with the girl making the drinks and I let her make mine but told her that I'd bring my own drink to my desk. So I dumped it in the bathroom and rinsed my cup, quickly filled it with a little OJ, drop of grenadine and filled the rest with water.

See, this was my initial game plan but since it's a small group, we'll likely be sitting at the same table when we order our drinks. I may try to get there early and order from the bar so that I have a drink in hand when everyone else arrives.

Will they notice if you order but don't drink it? I had friends at a work party dump shots under the table because they wanted to appear participatory, but didn't want to get drunk. Probably not possible, but....
You're a lawyer, right? So many law functions require copious amounts of booze. Good luck!
Whyyyyy does looking at nursery wall details on Amazon stress me out so much?!?! I'm so indecisive!!
This made me giggle way more than it should have.
And now I want to know which you're deciding between !
I don't even know. I might nix the idea completely because I can't find what I had an idea of in my head that doesn't cost as much as these babies did (jk not quite that much haha).
Also my step sister is having a baby in February. Her Pinterest board is all pins that are basically the same idea that I have. I secretly hope my nursery turns out way cuter than hers.

Don't pull the trigger on anything yet. You may change your mind..

Oh I'm not yet. I just have this bad habit of needing to plan EVERYTHING. That and DH is bothering me to get the painting done haha. He's an overachiever but he refuses to paint. Go figure.

Some might not notice, but I'm guessing that a few would. One of my friends suggested telling them that I have to breastfeed DS as soon as I get home. They'd all be so mortified at the thought that they wouldn't question it.
But seriously. No one drinks like lawyers. I've never attended a firm event that didn't involve an open bar.

Go out with a bunch of health physicists... They may have you beat. I've never seen people drink like that anywhere else

That's a really good idea. I play the picky card and tell them I need my drink a special way so I need to talk to the bartender directly.

I totally want my nursery done now....I know this isn't practical.

I'm so late getting here today! Boo.
DD has swimming lessons tonight and for the first time, I don't want to do it. I'm feeling icky/nauseous and tired so the idea of getting in the water with her has my feeling exhausted already. Except I know if I go, she'll insist that I get in with her instead of DH, even though he said she had her best lesson ever last week when I was traveling for work and he took her. Ugh.

cayenne, I had 3 different happy hours or dinners with drinks when I was with co-workers last week and I just said I had a headache and didn't feel like drinking was a good idea. No one bothered me too much about it.
Hey ladies, sorry I haven't been in the randoms much. I've been so sick the last few days. I went to the Dr yesterday and he prescribed Diclectin but is also sending me for an early ultrasound tomorrow as he checked my beta hcg levels and they are quite high, so now they are concerned that it may be a molar pregnancy. So that's got me a bit stressed, but I'm trying not to worry too much as there's not much I can do. Easier said than done!!

Thinking of you! As I'm sure you know, hcg levels can vary widely in healthy pregnancies. Also dating scans are not risky and are pretty helpful, so I think sometimes doctors suggest one even if they aren't that worried, because why not? Do you know the number or did they just tell you it was high?
There's also betabase, but I imagine that's a thing some people would find reassuring while others would just find to cause added stress.

Hope all goes well tomorrow. I'll be thinking of you.

Thanks! They didn't tell me the numbers, just that they were quite elevated and they want me to go for an ultrasound. The nurse then mentioned a molar pregnancy, which I had never really heard of so of course I've been googling and freaking out, but this is just my GP and he's a great Dr but he can be a bit of an alarmist. I'm kicking myself for not asking the exact number but I'm not sure that would even help! It's good to know hcg levels vary a lot.

If this is a GP who is a known alarmist I would... really not freak out. I mean, I know that's impossible, but I doubt he knows what a too high hcg is, and like I said there's no risk to a scan so why not order one?

Very true! He's also over 80 so I feel a lot of his knowledge is a bit dated. Alright... You've made me feel better. Thanks! I'm going to go eat a bag of Salt and Vinegar chips and stop Googling haha.

@osw, what do you think about the pick for the next bachelor?
I honestly don't have an opinion either way. I usually don't stick it out long with the bachelorette because I get bored so I don't really know him. I do think it will be more entertaining than luke or chase.
