How's your long weekend, A16?
And another question: anyone know the verdict on swaddling a side sleeper? DD3 is getting pretty high up on her side to sleep at times and I am mildly worried she could accidentally flop on her stomach swaddled (though her arms are usually tucked out in front of her blocking a roll).

Wow! Everyone must be sleeping in lol We don't have any plans other than my sister and BIL coming to visit today.
I think most people would say that once they can roll, which is very possible with a side sleeper, then you don't swaddle anymore. I let DS sleep next to me early this morning because I wanted to sleep more and he sleeps better with me. I woke up and he was on his tummy. Realized that it could have been not good so I got anxious. I think it's probably because he started on his side next to me. Note to self to keep him on his back next to me. He also turned 1 week today! Fastest week ever!
Last night was one of the hardest we have had so far, and I was already exhausted going into it. DD3 was up about every 1.5 hours. The girls have been stir crazy and need to get out of the house, but I'm too tired.
DH managed to mow the grass (riding mower) but he is still sore from surgery and can't lift DD2. So I had to wait until she went down for a nap to attempt to get the baby to sleep and take a nap myself. I saw him dozing on the couch and cried, I told him he can't fall asleep until I go upstairs with the girls because I can't bear to see him sleeping when he slept all night and I'm so tired. Not exactly rational, but I'm too tired to be rational.

I was thinking I remembered no swaddle once they are on their sides. I guess I can break out my ZipadeeZips, though they are fleecy and highs go back into the 90s next week.
I have never had a kid move off her back in the crib before 7 mo. (!) before.
Man, baby sleeps best (longest and less noisy) when right beside me or on me...I usually relent after 1 or 2 feelings a night so I can sleep better. Hope I'm not creating a bad habit for him, particularly as he definitely won't be able to sleep with me next week after surgery at hospital. Right now, I am just trying my best to make sure we all are healthy and he doesn't somehow get sick before then.

When DD was a newborn she always slept on me after a few wake ups. Now she won't sleep with me even if I tried. I feel like the hospital staff will have tricks to get him to sleep. Enjoy those snuggles..and sleep!
What guidelines were you guys given about taking baths after a vaginal delivery? I had a second degree tear. They told me 6 weeks, but I've read conflicting things. I'm dying to soak and relax.

One of my midwives straight told me, 2nd degree tears and all, to take epsom salt baths. I imagine if you make sure your tub is clean, you should be ok. I wouldn't go nuts with soaps or anything, but a relatively quick soak? If my shower head wasn't detachable, I might be more inclined to a bath.
My girl is 4 days old today and finally actually woke all the way up for several hours this morning. She isn't a fusser, she stays pretty calm, and she is eating like crrrrrazy. In 3 hours, I think she has been on both boobs 3x each. 5 minute doze, then awake and asking for more! That half pound she lost is not long gone, I think, haha.
Anyone (re)discover the mommy sway? I just sort of start doing it when I have baby froggy posed on my chest. I laughed at myself for it because its just so instinctual. But it makes me happy.

shanny baby girl prefers to sleep with me too and nervous I am making a bad habit. But for a time she just would not sleep in her crib. Bow to help I put a hot water bottle in her spot to warm it up before I put her down. I call it a sucessful night if she stays for one stretch in the crib.

I was thinking about the hot water bottle thing too! Sigh, another step/thing to do.

Yep! I totally get that! Way too many things that need to get done. I kinda think it's because she was in NICU and as much as we were there as much as we could be she was not held at the beginning as much as many other newborns. Now it it something she craves and needs. She is pretty much never happy unless she is being held.

I thought it more had to do with preventing uterine infection because it takes a while for the placenta area to heal? I've always done 6 weeks. No swimming or anything like that either. A sitz bath would be ok but that doesn't really qualify as a good soak

I am incapable of holding a baby without doing the sway. It just happens.

We had newborn pictures taken this morning and I'm so excited to see how they turned out. DD was so funny. She hates to have her hands moved so the photographer ended up having to leave her hands wherever she wanted them. Here's a sneak peek picture I took.

I slept five hours today. Two hours, fed baby, then three more. My body aches are feeling better. Still have a fever. I'm an idiot and never called the doctor because I worry it isn't an emergency. I did pump a lot as well and found the hot spot in my boob. Working to get it clear now.
I got to take a short nap earlier, so that helped. DH said he would get up with the big girls tomorrow morning so I can just feed the baby and go back to sleep. I hope it works out because it sounds amazing.

If you have a fever it could be bacterial and then you need drugs to clear it up.
I've had both types of mastitis. The non infectious kind responds to rest, hot showers, and pumping. The infectious clears up fast with drugs.
I officially wore baby out at the grocery store for the first time today! He loved it! We ran in for lunch food and it went so well we just went back and did some full on grocerying! The last time we tried in the carseat he screamed the whole time and made me hold him, and kept screaming.. all the Seniors were concerned for him. This time was considerably less embarassing and I got all the fun questions like "how old?" and "that's a great idea" in reference to wearing.
OMG my ILs don't leave until Tuesday and I want them out. Stop breathing in my baby's face staring at her, stop running over whenever she makes a noise and getting in my way, and stop asking about her poop. WTF.
quirks, I feel you. MIL rearranged our whole kitchen. Explained to us how to wipe our 2 yr old. And told us "make sure you clean off the coffee table so the 2 yr old won't get things, its good practice for the newborn." As well as bringing him into bed to stare at me and the newborn while I was breastfeeding for the first time at home. And complaining about me being shirtless in my bedroom with the door closed, while breastfeeding.
coffeequeen14 I'm glad you found the clog, that makes it easier to fix. Warm rice socks and epsom salt soaks on the affected breast have helped me in the past. @suesposa I'm sorry that people are jerks and hurt you

I had an amazing day - first time in a while that I felt remotely human. I took a nap, showered, and put on clothes! I babywore in Target. I cleaned LO's room, finished thank you cards, and made dinner. Yay long weekend! It's so much easier when MH is around to help
