I wrote a term paper on my Harry Potter theory for psych 101
Harry is an abused child who's created an alternate universe in his mind. I explained what each character represented for him. It was all touted together with Dumbledore's ladt line "of course it's happening on your head,.but that doesn't mean it isn't real."

I've heard this theory before. Q about fan theories in general... do they think the authors meant it that way?

I figured out how to spoiler. This is a synopsis, I have read longer explanations. **Trigger Warning** {Click here to see more.} None of the babies in “Rugrats” actually exist, but they are all instead figments of Angelica’s imagination, as result of her parent’s negligence.
Chuckie died with his mother, which explains how much of a nervous wreck his father is.
Tommy was a stillborn baby, which explains why his father, Stu, was always in the basement making toys for the son he never had.
Finally, the DeVilles had an abortion. To compensate for not knowing the sex of the baby, Angelica invented twins in her head, one boy, one girl.

mischief, thank you for the link. I feel better about Rugrats. @nonniedee, your paper sounds awesome, but for my own peace of mind I'm going to tell myself that the existence of the new Fantastic Beasts series means the rest of HP is "real".

A: I think I fucking love you right now.
B: I really want to read that paper. Any chance you still have it and would be willing to share it?

So I classified Harry as manic depressive who suffered from delusions.
Mental illness usually manifests itself in adolescence, so that's why the"Hogwarts" letter comes at eleven.
Basically anytime he's in the magical world he's suffering from a manic delusion.
His time during the summer is the depressive swing.
In my theory, he was attending a special school, but for children who suffer with mental health issues.
Dumbledore was his psychiatrist
Hagrid, the kind janitor that always checked on him
Ron was who Harry wanted to be. A regular boy from a loving family.
Hermione, was Harry's mania making sense of his delusions.
Voldemort is Harry, he's his id. Throughout the books you see all the parallels between them because they're the same person. Harry's ego is in a constant battle to defeat his id.
Basically I went through each book detailing how deep mental illness can go. Book 5 was my fave.because of the convergence of mental illness and manhood. Harry is realizing that he's sick and his depressive cycles are more frequent.
Book six he kills off Dumbledore, because he stopped seeing his psychiatrist. Statistically speaking most people who suffer from mental illness retreat and don't seek help.
Book seven has him wandering with the two parts of himself battling against his id.
In the end, he accepts that he's ill and still deals with the consequences of it. But he's able to better balance himself.
Like I said it was a while ago. Like a decade. So I'm forgetting chunks of it.

blackbird , I can't open it, but this should be it. I'm not saying I believe in these theories, but I do find them interesting. This one also deserves a **Trigger Warning**
{Doug Spoiler}http://creepypasta.wikia.com/wiki/Douglas_Not-So-Funny Basically he is tripping on LSD that he steals out of his sisters room. He takes the drugs to cope with the fact that his neighbor Mr. Dink is sexually assaulting him.

That Disney princess fan theory is pretty amazing! They need to do a complete genealogy to get Merida, and Belle and others I am forgetting linked in too.
Right?!?!?! I feel like the people who write these might have some unresolved issues of their own.
OH.
Not yours! I've never read Harry Potter, but from what I do know you paper sounds amazing!!! However, the people that wrote the Rugrats and Doug theories seem to be coming from a really dark place.
I was one of those in english class whose conversations went along the lines of
Teacher: Class, why do you think the author described the sky as blue?
Exceptional Kiss Ass Student: Because during the french revolution blue was used in the uniforms of soldiers and the death of those soldiers brought the father to deep depression and now his whole world is clouded in melancholy
Me: Because the God damned sky is blue because molecules in the air scatter blue light from the sun
^ This is how I feel about fan theories in general
But, the Pixar Easter Eggs that tie movies together are real, right? I mean, that's clever movie making vs. some super fan creating alternate universes for, well, fictional stories.
I have a theory that Boo is Jessie's owner (from Toy Story).
I noticed she has Jessie and some of the same furniture.
I only know this because my kid went through a Pixar phase. We watched them all a lot.
