tuscanlatte it totally came across as encouragement. I do the same thing with trying to think of myself as I'm sure others do.
I actually think body image is such an important topic. I've been thinking about how I hear other people talk about themselves as well, especially those who will be around M a good deal, and how to deal with their negative self talk. Within the next year I think it will really start too become important as they really start talking more. I don't know if I should say something to the wrist offenders, one of muy friends and MIL, or just address it as I hear it.
I totally agree. I just told H that at some point sooner rather than later, he's going to have to talk to his dad about not calling the girls fat. I don't care if someone calls my baby fat, but DD1 is almost 3 and at some point it will become an issue. FIL raised 3 boys and they are all incredibly insensitive. I've been trying to explain to H how there are certain things he just can't say to our daughters. I don't think it really sunk in until he saw that my 13 year old niece had cut the word "Fat" into her thigh. It's heartbreaking. He is the only one who saw it before she covered it up, but it really got to him and he seems to get it now.
ETA: it's only an issue because he calls them both fat nonstop. It's in jest, but that's not the point. "You're getting fat. Look at that big tummy. You can't climb on that, you're too fat." etc.
