I call the remote "the buttons". I'm not sure why or where it came from. Most people I know make fun of me for it, so it must have just been something my parents or grandparents called it.

My grandmother would always say 'close the light' to mean to turn the light off. I catch myself saying it sometimes and I'm just like...whaaaaa does that even mean??
My father, who is an Old, refers to most technology as "the machine." Ex. "I'm going to turn on the machine and send an email;" "Heat it up for a couple of minutes in the machine;" "Run it on spin cycle in the machine."

I just thought of one ... jeezum crow instead of Jesus Christ. I think it is a northern New England thing. I grew up in MA and the only people I ever knew that said that was my family from Maine. Now we are in northern VT and I hear it a lot more.
Ha! I always say that. I'm not sure if it comes from my time in New England, VA, or my family in PA...I feel like I've said it forever but honestly can't think of anyone else I know who says it.

My same Portuguese friend (who says park for parking space) claims this is a Portuguese thing. Her whole family says open and close the light.
They also say "black soda, white ice" if ordering soda like coke (makes me wonder what the alternative to white ice is...)

I forgot about "party store"! When I moved to MI I was confused by that one.
We're in the Detroit area tho, and I haven't heard "buggy" very often.
I hear buggy occasionally. Party store I use on a regular basis and I didn't realize other people didn't know that phrase. I also use "two track" frequently.
Is this where we discuss "Grinder" versus "hoagie" versus "hero" versus "sub" ??
#teamgrinder
Also, my grandma used to call the living room the "parlor" - we are from CT so not even fancypants - I blame the black and white movies she watched. And jeans she called "dungarees".
Am I the only one busting a gut over "water ice" Like... No shit? Ice water. Water turns to ice. Snow cone? WHAT IS THIS.
loooool. I had never heard of it till Mitch Albom opened a water ice place where I live. I still don't see why it's different than Italian ice. Maybe it's not and just has a different name.
