If they aren't going to be at the shower, open the gifts as you get them and send a thank you note. it makes absolutely no sense to lug the gifts with you and trust me, TRUST ME, the people who attend the shower really don't want to sit and watch you open a bunch of gifts from people who aren't there.

Thanks! I talked to my friend and we are going to just have her open those gifts at her house. I'm glad that my instinct was correct. She is going to FaceTime and open some for family members who need it.
If they come to your house, by all means, open them, write/mail a timely TY note, and I personally suggest calling the sender to thank them as well, so they are not left wondering if the delivery got to you.
