SS- We use the advent kind. We also use advent bottles. It just kind of happened that way- he prefers them. He hated the soothies from the time he was born. He tolerated the all rubber Nuk ones for a short period of time but eventually stopped taking them too. MH bought the advent kind because they go in either way- there's no "upside down" to them. Easier to shove in in the car lol He takes the pacifier some of the time. Rarely from me- if I give it to him while holding him he gets really pissed! He'll take it from others sometimes, but if he's hungry it just pisses him off. He usually takes it and settles in the car seat, again unless he's hungry. He uses it to nap quite a bit at daycare I believe. He also bites at it sometimes like a tether.

We use it during the day to calm him down, but he doesn't need it to sleep...usually just to initially fall asleep. I'm fine if he doesn't have it all night.

SS he takes one sometimes but has a hard time keeping it in his mouth, I just switched from the Soothies to Mams and he has a better time with them. He has recently figured out how to soothe himself with his fingers so i am cool with that
Never tried one. At first we comfort nursed then he found his thumb around 14 weeks and has been self soothing with it ever since. He even puts himself back to sleep with it during the night. Works for me!
We use MAM, which are also impossible to put in upside down. She only wants it when she is fussy and tired.
J, on the other hand, loves his paci. He's 2.5 and shows no signs of wanting to give it up. He uses it for sleep, when he's cranky, and when he's nervous. I'm not pushing the issue since it's his only security item. He's not particularly drawn to any specific blanket or toy, so paci it is. My parenting motto is "He won't go to college with it."
We use for sleep only. She wouldn't take one for the longest time but we finally got her to take them alittle over a month ago. It's fabulous because she doesn't need us to rock her to sleep, we just pop in the paci and she falls asleep. we use the Advent brand since those are the bottles she switched to. Didn't like soothies or the NUK ones either.
No pacifier here. We tried once when she was littler with the one that came with our Amazon box thing, but no luck so we never tried again. She eats her fingers to soothe.
We offer it only for sleep and car. Same thing we did for DS1. But he likes his hands also, so we don't push it. will get rid of it sometime. probably around age 2.
We offer it up to keep him from developing into a thumb sucker. I can take away a paci later, I can't take away a hand or thumb.
I thought the same thing when baby I started sucking his thumb. I read a few studies, thinking I was going to deter the behavior, but the studies changed my mind. Apparently most children give it up spontaneously around age 1 and 98-99% give it up by age 4 or 5, which is when the dental concern comes into play. Then they did a study on the 1-2% who didn't spontaneously give it up by 4 or 5 years old and the commonality was their parents tried to discourage thumb sucking! Go figure!!! I had a major misconception of thumb sucking until I learned all this a few weeks ago.

We use it for naps and car rides, occasionally for fussy periods. Strangely enough we don't use it for nighttime sleep - being woken just to put the damn thing in was annoying, so we stopped and she seems to do fine. Occasionally if she's stirring a lot in the early am I'll pop it in to get an extra couple of hours.

They use the soothies and love them. I give it to them when they're fussy or After nursing sessions. I was pretty adamant from the getgo that I wouldn't comfort nurse or let them use me as a pacifier, so to say. Whenever I can tell they're done nursing, I slip a pacifier in and they're happy.

We used avent but she rarely takes it now because she way prefers her thumb. There is no deterring it and since H is an orthodontist, I am just going with it! I still offer it to her every time I put her to bed, put her in the car, etc...

G refused a pacifier for the first 10 weeks, then we found one he likes. We use it for fussy times. He has a stronge urge to suck and prior to that he was using me as a pacifier (and the constant nursing is probably why he gained so much weight so fast). His growth has slowed to a reasonable weight and life has gotten easier for me since he's taken the paci. DS1 never used one, which I sometimes wished he had, but we never had to deal with taking it away. DH is very anti-paci and worried about his teeth. I'd prefer he's use a paci rather than his thumb, because at least we can take it away. I hope we'll be able to stop using it by age 1.

J uses the nuk brand. Both DH and I were thumb suckers and she is always trying to find her thumb, so I offered the pacifier so I at least could take it away.
