R is 4 months exactly and we've been giving her tastes of things for about a month now. She's sucked on apples, had guacamole, oatmeal (but only the gooey stuff, no actual oats), caramel apple suckers thanks to her dad, sour cream, ...
Probably more stuff that I can't remember. Oh, refried beans. She loved those. She doesn't like cold popsicles.
We won't actually start solids until 6 months, but I'll keep giving her tastes of whatever I'm eating.
We haven't given Cam anything. He hasn't shown much interest. We started giving A food at 4.5 months but he was extremely interested and showing all the signs. Well start giving Cam food when he is interested in food and is showing signs of readiness.
Not yet but not for his lack of interest. He usually acts pretty interested.
But with his slow weight gain and knowing that the bulk of his calories needs to come from breast milk I don't want to risk sidetracking him until the doctor approves. Even though I'm sure a taste wouldn't interfere too much, I'm still paranoid.

B is 5 months and he hasn't had anything. We don't have a desire to do rice cereal or oatmeal. We plan to start BLW when he's 6 months and we will start with avocado and cooked, soft veggies.

Will start at 6mo, MAYBE 5.5 if he's REALLY showing interest. Our first will likely be banana, and DS1 already said he will be giving him his first food.
He's shown no interest. If she shows interest any time soon, we'll go for it. If not, we'll see how I feel. I have no desire to add feeding an infant into the mix, so I'm fine with him just having milk for as long as he wants.
We actually started J on rice cereal last week. He doesn't have it every day but he loves it. He's shown interest for a while and does very well with the spoon/swallowing. The pedi gave us approval at his 4 month appt. I wanted to wait a bit longer but she said it might actually help with his reflux. And he's a creep watching people eat so lol...

What do your kids do to show interest? FTM here. No clue what to watch for! 😂
Well DS watches like a creeper while I eat. He reaches for my food if I'm holding him, leans towards food and almost looks like he's sniffing. If something gets even close to his face he does a gold fish open mouth thing haha. I consider that all showing interest.
But until the doctor says otherwise I'm not going to do anything about it. A mom friend of mine (has three kids) suggested bm on a spoon if I want to give him the experience of "eating" with utensils since he's showing interest but that sounds like a mess and a waste of bm LOL

I rarely eat near DD... I should try it and see what she does!

kateisoptimistic, Breakfast was the last meal we add in. We will start with dinner, around 5pm (or 2hrs before his bedtime when the time comes). Then probably a month or so later will add in a 12pm and a month (or more) later will add in a breakfast! By then he will be more able to feed himself and his main source of nutrition until age 12-14mo will still be BM and/or formula.
DD didn't start eating breakfast at home until she was at least two. Some time between two and three. Until that point, breakfast was always at school. Even now, her breakfast is just a snack (small yogurt and a small bowl of cereal) and her "real" breakfast is at school.
Food also works as a great distraction at DC if they start to develop separation anxiety.
I don't plan on starting until 6 months, but we shall see.
For you working mamas - how do you make this work in the morning? I am envisioning having to get us all up at like 5 am in order to feed him
Generally you start with just a little solids once a day. It's not really for nutrition at this stage so whenever is convenient for you is fine. We just did dinner for a while, then we did dinner and sent food to daycare. We didn't start solids at breakfast until J could self feed small things like halved blueberries and cheerios.
I answered wrong - she's had a few tastes of things, mostly MH's doing. She is really getting interested though. I can barely eat while holding her anymore because she keeps trying to grab my food.
My Mom just brought this up. She's really good at understanding recommendations are different now, but she was explaining how she started me on solids and better yet how SHE was started on solids. It's wild how things change. So glad she understands. Not everyone in my family does.

Now I'm curious... How was she started?
well, technically with rice cereal, not that radical, but early introduction of sweets and processed foods (no wonder she never at her veggies!).... whiskey for teething 😳

K started smacking his lips, lapping his tongue and watching our mouths when we were eating. Pediatrician said a week before his 4 month was ok so that's when we started. He gets 2-3 tablespoons a day. We started with baby oatmeal with breastmilk for a few days then stuck with organic jarred food to see what he liked and now we make purees. So far he's liked everything but prunes lol. He LOVES squash and it's in season so that's fun.
We only started last week and have tried a handful of times. Since its just for practice we do dinner every other day or so when we have time. We may try peas later this week. Eventually we will work up to dinner every night. I doubt I will ever do b/l on weekdays. I don't have time in the morning right now.
