I hate when other people overtire my kid. I am a proud nap nazi. I probably need to chill out about it, but it truly makes me see red.
That's how I am with bedtime. Have been since DD was 8 weeks old! I know people think I'm crazy, but when you find something that works why mess with it?
I tried a crib nap with DS, he went 30 minutes then I screwed up and went in there too quickly. At this age what is an acceptable amount of time to let them fuss? No cry, but fuss. With DD I didn't start crib naps until way too late and she wasn't a good napper until recently. So I feel like a noob again haha.
Morning! We have a moving company coming to give us a quote today so I feel like the house needs to be picked up. Also, I just tried to put the coffee pot in the fridge instead of the milk.

We do the "pause" every time the baby fusses. Sometimes she'll make noises every few minutes and fall asleep 30 minutes later. I find that if she is going to be really unhappy, she will let us know right away. That's probably not helpful because it's so baby specific. But in general, if it's just fussing and not crying I will let them go until I can sense distress.

Last night I tried to put breastmilk in the bread box instead of the freezer.

I like that you have a breadbox. We just keep bread in the fridge!

I grew up with a bread box, but H grew up putting bread in the fridge. So he puts it in the fridge. I put it in the bread box, and then he forgets it's there and buys more, and it goes bad. But I don't like making sandwiches on cold bread!

My best friend is coming over today. She asked me "do you have a DVD player? I can rent a movie" I was like dude welcome to 2016... we can rent it through my smart TV. Lol
DS is exactly 2 months old today! And he's finally getting funner, like smiling and giggling. I had a rough first month with him, lots of crying both him and myself, so I'm really loving that each day gets better and better!

I learned when I was tied up with big sisters that DD3 will even cry when changing sleep cycles but settle. I try not to let that happen for more than 2-3 minutes. I have read up to 5 in the book Bedtiming, which is by a pair of developmental psychologists. 5 is also what they do in France according to "Bringing Up Bebe." When I know for sure she is hungry I try not to wait.
MIL thinks my pause is CIO, or she strongly implied so yesterday. Others may agree. I see it as saving a lot of overtired crying later (from bitter experience with 3 hours of screaming overtired older kids).

It keeps getting better and better! I always say, if they could just start at like a 6 month old that'd be great. I love the snuggles, but otherwise the newborn stage is not my favorite. Glad to hear things are getting better for you.

I hate when others mess with the schedule in anyway. "Oh I'll just snuggle him to sleep now". Oh thanks - will you be over to help when he's up all night now since you had him nap for 2 hrs before bedtime?

H was supposed to get a raise this year (based on a degree/extra credits he earned). Because we're teachers, it has to be processed through the state and forwarded to the district. H submitted everything well within the stated timeline (over 10 weeks ago for what he was told would be a 4-6 week turnaround) but they're experiencing "high volume" and it won't be reviewed in time. No approval from the state, no raise. I just spent an hour on the phone with them and they basically told me they don't care. My decision to take a full semester off was heavily influenced by knowing he'd have the extra money, and now I'm totally panicked.
hashbrownnofilter oh no! I'm sorry. Money stress is awful. How can they just deny the raise because they are behind, even though you did everything right? (I'm asking in general, not expecting you to know the answer). I'm always amazed at certain processes through the state and how unfair they can be. I especially hate how taking more time to be with your baby is now super stressful
That's exactly what I said to the girl on the phone. She just said "oh." I don't want to get on the "teachers are undervalued" soapbox...but this is a good example.

I know it doesn't exactly help you now, but how hard is it to retroactively apply a raise once they DO catch up? Jfc, it isn't your fault they are understaffed... I am sorry
So, what kind of soap do you use to clean your bottles/pumping supplies?
I've just been using dish soap, but the plastic has taken on the scent of the soap and it's making the milk/formula taste like the smell. I'm going to do a full cleaning today and change soap. Help?
Also - my fussy baby from yesterday was due to gas! We were terrible about burping her consistently and well. So, last night we burped her a lot, got a million burps, and a happy baby who spit up not once all night. Win win win.

School districts here give you raises twice a year for credit advancement - in our case, 9/30 and 2/1. They only apply at those deadlines. So he'd start getting it right when I go back to work, and they won't pay it retroactively even though he has the qualifications now.

We got some gentle Babyganics foaming bottle soap. It was a gift, so I'm not sure how much it costs. It's nice! Scent free

This is what we use as well. It's not the cheapest but you can get coupons and it goes on sale at BRU all the time!

3 or 5 minutes to see if she will settle is COMPLETELY different from CIO. IMO at least. I agree with the pause, and I am vehemently anti-CIO in the 4th trimester

We don't let them cry, but we do let them fuss and they often settle themselves back down. When it turns into actual crying we pick them up.

hashbrownnofilter , I'm so sorry the school district is being so unreasonable. I agree with you 10 fold how undervalued teachers are.
DS's crib arrived and was assembled today. To say DH is not handy is an understatement so it was worth paying the set up fee. It looks so huge for my not yet 10 pound baby. I am no where near ready to have him sleep in it.

I struggle with this - I'm not doing it on purpose, but sometimes if LO is crying when I'm getting his supplement I need to just get the bottle together. It's not like I'm letting him cry until he stops... But he is still crying nonetheless
