I've been told to nap which I did for at least an hour with the baby. My MIL is cleaning and organizing my kitchen. I'm embarrassed I had so much expired food but glad it'll be so much better now.

fem that totally sucks about your work. Hopefully baby will come before so they can suck it.
sodapop too cute! DS1 was the same way for our photos last time and we still got some great ones.
briannea oh my, almost identical! My work is the same way, small business but like family so my job is secure. I'm in CA too and didn't realize that other states didn't have it like we do. Way to go CA!

So we had DS2's first ped visit today. His bilirubin levels were high so we had to be admitted to the hospital for phototherapy overnight. This sucks. It's gonna be a long night.

Did they retest? My pedi didn't check bilirubin levels when we went the other day...
My doctor wrote a very general note yesterday saying that my maternity leave could start Wednesday on my due date. Just got a semi-nasty letter back from HR stating that just being at my due date does not count as a reason to start leave and I need another note detailing the exact medical reasons why I need to begin my leave 'early.' I'm just gonna wait until next week to push for a new note, hoping something happens on its own.
Maternity leave in this country is so messed up.
My HR Dept called me on my due date because I had indicated to them and my boss that the Friday before my induction would be my last day at work. They were trying to charge me PTO that wouldn't count toward my 5 day waiting period for my STD because my due date was the 15th but I'd taken leave starting on the 12th for my induction.
It took 20 minutes of explaining to get it through to the HR rep that the baby was here and had come on Monday so it shouldn't matter when my damn due date was.
I don't understand why G won't allow me to lay him in the bassinet in the motn...I can lay him there at 7am and he will sleep a few hours. In the motn, he grunts like crazy until I pick him up.
During the day, he can lay flat in the pnp all day long no problem. I don't get it.
K has this same tendency between midnight and 6am. I have no idea what her deal is, but she's definitely more wakeful during that time. I've given in for now and just put her in her swing or her infant seat and sleep in the recliner.
E has been much more wakeful and fussy. I know he's coming up on his first leap but ugh. He makes me miss my overly sleepy baby. And I think he's got gas issues? He grunts like that's what's wrong, anyway. If he'd just tell me what's wrong, that'd be nice
Have you tried massaging his belly? That seems to help K when she gets gassy.
pismoduo it's like HR tries to make things more difficult sometimes.
I swear they really do. My poor boss was at a loss when he emailed me to try and figure out if I was Ok using the leave that way. He's only worked at the company for 2 months and hasn't figured out all their systems and policies yet.

I've honestly never done any sort of baby massage. We typically bounce, burp and bicycle... but that doesn't work all the time. I'll have to try massage. His belly is rock hard (abs of steel, ya know)... so I'd be afraid to push too hard and hurt him. Maybe I'll head over to YouTube and get some ideas there. Thanks for the suggestion!!

H does it a lot at work with gassy and constipated babies. He says there's not really a trick to it, just rub their belly gently. I tried it with K the other night and just ran my thumbs up and down either side of her belly button. It seemed to help and she pooped for the first time in 36 hours the next morning.

K's pedi also recommended laying her on her belly when she's gassy.

He looked jaundice so she had them check. So I think if all looks well, then a recheck isn't necessary.

annapunkalunka, look up the I love you baby massage. Every time we do that on E, we immediately get farts from here. The colic carry (face down in your arms with your palm in the belly - look that up for a pic) and tummy time on the floor also help us.

I made an appointment with a pediatric dentist for next Friday to get E evaluated for tongue and lip tie. I've been asking about it with her since we are struggling so much with sustaining a deep latch plus clicking, my nipples are lip sticked, etc but it's not a severe one towards the front of the tongue so the LC I work with has been somewhat unhelpful. This dentist is one of the ones recommended online for evaluations of tongue ties so I'm hopeful they can help tell me if that is part of our problem. DS had a tongue and lip tie it we didn't end up doing anything about it since he compensated by sucking really hard and it was just painful for me for the first 6 weeks but then got better when his mouth got bigger.

I'm sorry serendipity731! Fwiw the lights worked so well for us and I'm glad our dr made the call to put DD2 under them even though it was majorly inconvenient. I do hope he only needs them for one night to help his body process the bili out.

Thanks. One thing that keeps bothering me is the protective eyewear. It seems to slide over a bit when he moves his head. I'm so paranoid about his eyes showing. Did you have that problem?

Get them to tape them to his face. They did that with ds when he was under the lights.
