What to expect from follow-up appointment?

I have my post-D&E appointment on Monday.  It will be 4.5 weeks after the procedure (long story; I am not pleased).  I haven't had any blood testing at all (which sounds unusual given everyone talking about tracking their HCG down on here).  

I have the following questions - any others I should ask?  Also, what typically happens?  Do I get the joys of the speculum?

• Can we try on the first cycle once I get a period?  If not, why not?
• If I can't try next cycle, can I use BCP?  (I forgot how much condoms suck ya'll)
• Should I have my HCG levels checked?
• What are the results of the testing from the D&E?

With my first m/c I think it was all a blur for me. I just wanted to get in and out and move on because just being in the OB's office after that was so awful. I do remember them telling me that all of the "material" had been normal. But I don't really know what they meant by that. My doctor didn't do any bloodwork from what I remember, just an exam and discussion. My follow-up from this m/c is Monday. I've been having some wacky symptoms so I'm asking a lot of questions this time, plus we are starting testing so I'm asking about that. You might want to take someone with you or a notebook just so you can remember what is discussed. Good luck!

With all my losses my follow up included an u/s and blood work to make sure my numbers were down. I know that not every Dr will track you to zero but they did with all three of my losses for some reason.

I think you have all your questions right. I feel your pain regarding condoms but one thing regarding BC though, have you thought about maybe using something other than the pill if you're benched for only a couple of cycles? Maybe a diaphragm (which I've never used so I really have no experience)? The only reason I ask is because (1) it can take the pill a while to take effect, and (2) it may cause your cycle to be a bit more wonky or take a while to get back to normal once you get off of it again.

I have always heard that BCP's are more for long term rather than just a couple of months but I am no Dr so of course it's best to ask their take on it

We just talked at mine. Although I'm miscarrying naturally so I can't comment on d&c follow up appt. Our OB said that because we can start trying again straight away he wants to track my levels down to 0 first to ensure we don't have retained tissue vs a new pregnancy. We asked a lot of questions and received a lab requisition to get done next week. Good luck!!!!
