Hi everyone! I've been MIA because I had a baby! My due date was 9/24 and I was expecting to be induced this week.
I woke up Thursday at 3AM and turned over in bed when I felt a large gush of what I thought was my water breaking. I had an internal debate for a bit as to whether it was truly my water because after the initial gush nothing else came out. My H and I decided to head to the hospital to be absolutely certain. After getting checked in the first two "tests" were inconclusive and I was convinced we would be sent home. Finally the third test came back positive for amniotic fluid at the same time as my contractions started and the water began gushing out. Thankfully we weren't sent home!
My contractions tapered off after an hour so they wanted me to start pitocin...I came in at 2cm dilated and they didn't want to check me until I felt like I was ready for my epidural to limit risk of infection. I started pitocin and after 6 hours started to feel uncomfortable so I got my epidural and they checked me and said I was only at a 4. I was so disappointed and surprised that I had barely progressed. I decided to enjoy the epidural and get some rest.
Until 30 minutes later, I felt unbearable pain in my pubic bone. The nurse thought either I was ready to push or my epidural was settled in the wrong spot. As I waited 15 minutes for the doctor to check, the contractions became unbearable. I felt everything including the urge to push. Luckily, my doctor was able to arrive in time and confirmed that I had fully dilated and we started pushing. Four contractions later, my baby girl arrived! 8lbs 7oz!!
We were all so surprised that I dilated 4 - 10 in 45 minutes and that she came so fast. She is just darling...we are all so happy to welcome her into our family! We arrived home today and are settling into the routine. Her big sister just adores her!
