Even though I'm at my in laws I've been getting less sleep. Her dogs wake up at 6 to eat and then they play and bark for the rest of the morning. So I slept 6 hours last night. I can't wait to go home. I told ds1 that it's only a few more days until I can come home and he said "and then I can kiss mommy!". He's been wanting to do that since he saw me on Saturday.

I'm out of town for work - it sucks. i just talked to MH and he said my baby slept 10 hours last night. how is this possible? the longest he typically goes is a 5 hour stretch followed by 2-3 hour stretches. 10 hours!!!!! I feel like i must be doing something wrong and now of course feel like a terrible mom.
I just ugly cried on the phone to DH because I forgot his cousins, her husband, and two kids are staying with us for his cousins wedding this weekend. (Same people that stayed with us for the forth of July).
Then I remembered that in about six weeks we will be traveling for SILs weddbf.
For some reason it just seemed super overwhelming.

No first hand experience but I've had friends tell me their babies do that when they are away. Some people think it's because they sense you're not around so they know they won't get the comfort/nursing.

huh, i guess this makes sense. i just feel terrible all around for not being there and now to hear he is doing better without me there is punch in the gut.

Hugs. It's hard not being there but it is an awesome opportunity for baby/daddy bonding!
It blows my mind how quickly babies get over colds. Meanwhile us poor adults are sick for over a week. Ugh
DS has been congested since 6 weeks old. And now has green snot and coughing for going on a week.
Is that abnormal??
Has your DD been sick? That would be abnormal for my lo, but perhaps your Ds has just been exposed to more? We've only had one cold in this house since he was born and it was my H so we were able to take a lot of precautions to avoid him spreading it.

You aren't a terrible mom. My DD always sleeps better at other peoples houses. Who knows why. Kids are weird!

She has only been sick the last couple of days.
DH and I have been sick basically the last three weeks.

Sounds like he's just got what you've got.
Now that ds1 is in nursery school and it's getting cooler outside I'm just waiting for the first round of colds. Hate this time of the year. I feel like ds1 spent his entire second year with a snotty nose.

That's what I've been assuming.. but then you said a week, and I'm thinking.. he's never HAD a week that he's not sick since 6 weeks!

lol sorry. Could it also be allergies? I think maybe they're too young for that still though? I often wonder about that when ds1 gets random runny noses.
k3am, we are going on basically 2-3 mo of coughing, snot and such. I think it just is what it is at this point!
I just got to go and do an arterial stick on a baby. I know it sounds horrible, but it's one of my favorite procedures. And later today I'm inserting a PICC in a 680gram (1.5lb) baby. Today, I feel like I'm really saving babies! I love my job!
I need more coffee.
ellesea, I am sure DS1's kissing feeling is mutual. I really am in awe and 100% certain you miss your munchkins horribly!
teraiin, that sounds super overwhelming! kateisoptimistic, kids smell their moms and do anything to spend more time with them. You are not a horrible mom!! westiemom, hope she feels better ASAP
babycaps, for DD's first sedation, they did not plan well. They spent almost an hour trying to get an IV line placed before they called down one of the nurses from the NICU... Who managed to get the IV placed on the first try. I assume you're just as good as her.
k3am, not to sound super conceited, but I am very good at IV placement. For some reason I just do it well and I am the "Go-to" person for IVs and PICCs. The nurses also like it when I come help with these things because I don't leave a mess!
I am pumping now. I am taking "Mother's Milk Plus" and Brewer's Yeast supplements and I am not seeing an ounce of difference. At this point, if it keeps going like this, I'm going to stop at 6 months. Pumping for 90+ minutes at work alone and then another hour at home (5-6 pumpings/day) and getting not even 12oz is just miserable. I want to cry but it is the reality. I tried a different pump and it was worse! I drink a ton of water. So what gives? UGH.

Anecdotally I've been congested pretty much since birth. I'm seldom not congested. I had my tonsils and adenoids removed when I was 2 or 3 in hopes it would help (it didn't). I've been to allergy doctors, had allergy shots. The most my parents ever got was a "she's got chronic sinusitis" diagnosis lol
The one time my congestion has been the best was when I went to Florida as a senior in high school. I could actually breathe!
