U.S. regulators on Wednesday warned owners of certain top-loading Samsung washing machines of “safety issues” following reports that some have exploded.
The warning from the Consumer Product Safety Commission includes machines made between March 2011 and April 2016. It did not specify a model, however you can check your serial number on Samsung’s website.
The commission suggested people use only the delicate cycle to wash bedding and water-resistant and bulky items because the lower spin speed “lessens the risk of impact injuries or property damage due to the washing machine becoming dislodged.”
The agency said it is working with Samsung on a remedy.

Yup, ours is one of them. I had noticed that on the vibrations were really strong/loud when I wash bulky stuff. I guess that's why. Washing on delicate may keep damage from happening but it'll be so fun having to dry stuff longer 😑. Boo.
Thanks for the heads up. I def have a Samsung top loader that I'll check when I get home. I've already called the repairman once this year because its so loud sometimes during the spin cycle that it sounds like its broken. Repairman said it's fine but that it just gets "off track" when heavy items are in it (heavy as in 2 or 3 towels). Annoying.
The voluntary recall of these was announced today. We get a choice of free technician repair or a prorated cash reimbursement that is based on the age of your machine. They're offering me $500 in cash, $600 if I choose to buy another Samsung, not sure what I'm going to do.

I only get $341 if I choose and Samsung. Mine doesn't work at all, but they will only repair the lid issue. So I can hope to get it fixed through my homeowners insurance, or buy a new washer when mine is like 3 years old.

We are going the route of purchasing a new Samsung washer and then sending in the paperwork for a refund. Since we have money in savings to do this I decided I'd rather just start fresh.
