Sometimes the situations that you have no control over are the ones that tend to eat at you the most. I get it, I'm totally like this. Definitely sounds like a really shitty situation. Hopefully it all works out in the end. becole
dogmama22, first off, hope you are feeling better! Secondly, did I imagine that you are involved in some type of cloth diaper assistance type program now? I have some diapers that have seen better days that aren't really suitable to sell, but someone could fix up if they wanted. Wanting to find somewhere to give them. They are BGs with worn out velcro and a couple Blueberrys with broken or missing snaps. Any ideas?

I'm feeling much better, thank you! I applied to Cotton Babies Share the Love, they're just waiting to hear back from my references. I can't take any donations yet, but Blue Cocoon is collecting for STL right now, and those will eventually end up with me if I'm accepted. I'm not sure if I can fix snaps (probably can), but replacing the Velcro should be easy.
Guys I think we're really buying a house this time! The inspection is going really well!
What would you guys do in this space? I think it would be nice to have a table here to eat at but I don't want to cut off the kitchen from the living room. And the dining room is right on the other side of the kitchen so it's not completely necessary. But it needs something here.

Is that carpet in the dining room? If so, I would only use that for special occasions and put a table in.
Eta: zoomed in and see that it's a rug on top of wood floor. I think I would still have a small table for breakfast/casual dinners. What else would you want to put there?

JoBub - I'm really not a fan of eat in kitchens. I feel like it's such a waste of space if you have a regular dinning room. But it is tough to figure out what to put in that space instead.

Yeah this same floor is in the dining room. It's just an area rug. I don't know what else to put there. But I'm juat having a hard time envisioning a table there. Round? Square? White? Wood? Pushed up against the wall?
Hmm a small table could work there. Idk what else I'd do with the space otherwise, just leave it open? Seems like too bi a space to leave open.
Do you think you'd use the dining room regularly?
Growing up my family used to dining room infrequently, more for formal gatherings. Then are at the kitchen counter most of the time. I think there was a period too where we had a table in a space like yours, but otherwise my parents left it open.

JoBub - What about a table similar to the one mominthemaking14 has in her eat in area? It's one of those taller tables, so not a traditional round table of height. I much prefer that to a more traditional table.

Believe it or not, I've never been to mominthemaking14 's house. I'm not sure how I feel about tall tables because of the high chair situation. I like that he can climb in his booster seat himself.

But E isn't always going to be small and use a booster.

This what A and I said about our whole house. I'll see if I can find a photo we are headed to in laws now or I'd snap a photo. But our layout is similar and we did a high table wish we did 6 seats vs. 4 seats but works good. I love your floors!!

Yeah, but depending on when #2 happens, it'll probably be 5 years before I want a tall table.

I'd recommend against the tall table. My sil has one and I have a panic attack whenever N wants to try and get up and out of the chairs. We had a similar layout in our old house where we had the table in that area. But there was also a light fixture above, do you have one there? I'd probably go with a round table. We have a table from ikea that is round and can extend out to oblong and fit more people if needed.
I'm thinking about putting a desk under the windows and then maybe a cheap kid-friendly table from IKEA in that space for now. I don't think I want a couch there's because I want to keep it open. The door to the garage is right there so I want to keep that pathway clear from garage to kitchen to living room to back deck. But maybe 2 chairs like mrscatfarmer13 posted. Not sure if there's space for all that. I think it looks bigger in pictures than it really is. I'm going to need area rugs too. I'll probably be spending a lot of time at IKEA
Would another couch and sofa table behind it not work? Or even adding another island or countertop with chairs?
I think making the island counter bigger is a good idea. But outside of the budget right now. I might keep that in mind for when we're done with high chairs

Take me to Ikea with you! I never go because DH doesn't like it, but I don't like going alone.

To me, this is the best idea for when you're budget is ready for it.
