For those who weren't following in ransoms thread. Baby girl failed her NST at 40+6, too many HR dips and not good on recovery. So we were admitted Thursday around 2:30 straight to L&D. They started a round of cervidil at 3:30 for 12 hours. I only progressed to 1cm by 3:30am so they took me off the monitor let me eat, move and take a shower then monitored her and put another round of cervidil in at 5:30am. The good thing about this was although I was on cervidil for 24 hours I got to have a normal diet and move around freely, it was quite boring. By 3:30 on Friday (22 hours of cervidil) I started to get regular contractions every 5 min. They were completely manageable at that point and when they took out cervidil I was at 2cm. So I did laps around L&D and ate dinner. I asked them to hook me up to wireless monitors because they were going to start pitocin that evening.
Once pitocin started it was QUICK!
8ish-started pitocin, it wasn't too bad at first. I was already having contractions every 5 min as long as I was moving around from the cervidil. I kept switching up positions and was able to breath through them pretty good. Around 9:30ish I lost MP and things started to get really intense. I had to really focus, even though I was getting through each contraction okay I was having a hard time not thinking about all the other contractions that would be coming. They were only about 1-2 min apart so I felt like I started to loose control. She checked me and I was only at a 2.5. So she left me for another 30 to labor until I got so desperate I paged her back. I wanted them to turn down pitocin. She asked if I wanted iv drugs and I didn't, just wanted epi at this point. She said Dr probably wouldn't want to turn down pit (I think it was at 7 or 9 at this point) so instead she offered to check me. I remember asking if it was even worth it because it had only been 30 min. Well I was dilated to a 5 so I requested my epi asap. I got it about 30 min later, at 11. It was rough (not the epi itself) but I kept having contractions during the epi and it took awhile to work so when I had to lay flat it was pretty intense. Dr came in to break water and she guessed I was already in transition based on how my breathing was. She was right I was at a 7 and after she broke me water it seemed like the epi finally kicked in. With Mason it took away all of my pain and gave me a nice high. This go around it only took the edge off. Which I was pretty disappointed about. I could still feel my contractions and they were still painful but I could talk through them again. We discussed getting a bolus but I started to feel pressure and was already at a 9 so it wasn't worth it. So by 12 I was at a 9-10 but she was still in -1 station so she said I could try to relax for a bit. I still kept feeling a lot of pressure with contractions and by 12:30 started to feel urge to push. We did a practice push and she came down enough where nurse felt I was ready. The contractions were also easier to deal with when I was pushing. I pushed for 23 min (2 hours and 11 min with Mason!!) and out she came. The worst part was right when I was crowning the dr came in and wanted me to stop pushing so they could take the bottom of bed down. Ugh that was really intense but probably better in long run as I only ended up with a tiny tear because it allowed me to slow down. She was born with two more contractions and it was the best relief in the world! 10/1 at 1:01 am we had some bonding time and vitals taken throughout the nest two hours (had a hard fine maintaining temp) but then she got swaddled up around 3:30 and she let us sleep. We woke her at 7 go eat and then got moved to recovery around 8am.
