Ideas welcomed and desperately needed!

My lo is almost 3 weeks and he has been cosleeping with my dh and I. He doesn't like to be swaddled and doesn't take a pacifier, which I thought would help us in the long run.



Anyway, how do I get my lo to sleep out of our bed. I've tried the r&p, p&p, and his swing (worked for an hour). He literally wakes within minutes and is back in our arms. I really want to cuddle my dh and sleep in his arms one night.

I wish I knew, sounds like my older son, didn't like anything but sleeping on top of me, finally I got him weaned to sleeping with dh in another room in October since I needed my rest while pregnant. My only idea is, are you swaddling his arms tightly enough? I realize it didn't work at all with ds 1, but with ds 2, unless I do a right swaddle he just gets mad, but with a tight swaddle he falls asleep happily.

Use a bed buddy to warm the bassinet before transferring. Sleep with bedding or sleep sack one night so that it has your scent. Try out different pacifiers to see if he will take a different type. IME they need a chance to figure them out since they don't use their tongue the same way. Of they are used to nursing they will push their tongue forward and spit them out. White noise always helps my LO stay sleeping.

*Reading this as DS2 sleeps in the bed with me, and DH sleeps in the other room because he actually wants to sleep.*

I don't really have advice - with DS1, he eventually got used to sleeping in his crib by himself around 3 months. I even made a picture because I was so excited. So I guess my advice is - keep trying! It won't last forever.

DD also hates swaddling and pacifiers. I commiserate.

Luckily, after much repetition (and flat out refusal to co-sleep) she will sleep in the bassinet beside our bed. There were a couple of mostly sleepless nights and DH and I took turns soothing her and rocking her and I nursed her, but we toughed it out. I've read it takes three days/nights to break a habit. Can you guys, maybe over the weekend, devote three days?

We have a bouncer we use that is supposed to mock moms motion of rocking him. I'm not really sure about all of that but DS seems to sleep way better in that when its on. For a week or so it was the only thing he would sleep in besides the bed.

My baby hates being swaddled too, in fact while we were still in the hospital we tried swaddling and he screamed, each time we tried. Some babies just don't like it.

Just keep trying to put him in his own bed. Try laying him on his side too. Some babies sleep better in their sides, mine does.

I promise, it won't last forever. I Co slept with my other kids, they are no longer cosleeping. They are 14, 8, and 19 months.

Thank you ladies! I really do love sharing this time with him, I just feel bad for dh. I want to show him affection at night but Ira will not be put down alone for more than 10 minutes.

I would also add that my DD seemed to hate being swaddled early on, but it was mostly because she was being fussy when trying to poop-she needed to be able to squirm. As long as she doesn't have gas and isn't trying to poop she loves to be swaddled now (though does not like the actual process) and it does help her stay sleeping.

Transferring with fairly loud white noise going is really really helpful too. If you know that it is usually 10 minutes before he is back awake stay there through that time to help soothe him back to sleep quickly before he wakes all the way up. And at this age I wouldn't worry about putting him down dead asleep each time. I know you said he doesn't take a pacifier, but it is a helpful gauge sometimes because they stop sucking completely.

My lo loves to sleep on his side as well, but I'm not sure how to get him to sleep like that without my body propping him up. Any advise?

He has a significant tongue tie (his tongue is in the shape of a heart) but it does not interfere with breastfeeding. the doctors at the hospital and our pedi doesn't seem concerned because he is gaining weight (little tank). I wonder if that is partly why he has such a difficult time with pacis. We've tried 2 different brands.

I've swaddled him tightly, but he gets sooo pissed off and cries like crazy. He loves to have his hands over his face when he sleeps. In the hospital, the nicu nurses swaddled him with his hands at his face so we could move them. we continue to do that, but it's so hot in AZ, I'm scared he'll over heat haha

Have you tried the Aden and Anais swaddles?

I second the Aden and anais swaddles. I swaddle my LO with his hands out because he loves them. Got a white noise machine and he sleeps fairly well in the rock and play.

I don't know how big your ds is, but mine is about 7 lbs and I have him in the swaddle me newborn size. It's thin and it's stretchy and zips up. My ds loves having his hands by his face too and he can do that in this. It goes up to 10 lbs I think.

My ds naturally rolls to his side. He curls up in that swaddle me and rolls and stays there. I don't think there's a safe way to force them on their sides.

We tried 4 different types before finding one that works for us. If your really wanting to find one that works you will probably need to try more. But even when you find one they like they still spit it out some and act like they don't want it until you get it in their mouth for a few seconds

We're in San Diego so I use those gauzy blankets from Aden and Anais...perfect for swaddling but not getting too hot, get the big ones if you get them, the target ones are smaller for example. They made good nursing covers should you find yourself somewhere that you need a nursing cover and don't have one.

I actually have this momma bear that I use to prop him on his side with. It plays the sound of mommas heartbeat, a familiar sound they heard in the womb.
I bought this at babies r us years ago, but they still might have it.


You can also just roll up a receiving blanket. That's what I did for my oldest boys.
Place it at babies back.

Alternate sides to prevent a flat head.
