Nominate a charity for the TCF Angel Tree Drive

It's that time of year again! Please nominate a nonprofit that does an angel tree/giving tree/holiday gift drive for children and families. 

Nominations will be open through 10/26, and then voting 10/27-10/30. Time has gotten away from us again, and we want to have time to coordinate with the recipient organization. 

If you happen to be the coordinator for an angel tree/giving drive, that willl weigh heavily in your favor, as it can be a PITA to try and work with nonprofits who can't believe their luck that some strangers want to mail them gifts.

I'm once again nominating St. Elizabeth Seton Saint Vincent De Paul society in Valparaiso, Indiana. They serve 300 families each holiday season and our assistance last year allowed for them to really give the kids a Christmas to remember since they didn't have to ask for so many of the "basics" like socks/undies/hats/scarves from the congregation and local donors.

But of course I'd be thrilled if another charity could be the recipients of our holiday Amazon Package Dump this year

I'd like to nominate Angels of Addiction. They are located in Baltimore, Maryland and serve the most needy families. Many of these families are homeless or living in homes that should be condemned with no electricity, heat, etc. I even met one family of 5 that was living in a van. The area that this group provides support to is filled with crime and drug use. Many of the adults have drug addictions and their kids are the innocent victims to the disease. The Angels of Addiction serve food several times a week to these families. They also provide the basic needs for the children like clothes, shoes, backpacks, underwear, etc. At Christmas they make sure every child has several gifts to open. Last year my Dad dressed up as Santa and we helped them handout the gifts to the children. They were all so excited and their smiles were amazing! This is a truly boots-on-the-ground group of volunteers. They give their all to helping people and children in need. It's really remarkable how dedicated they are. They set up their donations through Amazon Wishlists so it's very easy to donate to their Holiday drive.

Yes. We are official!

We are the Foster Closet of Michigan, and there are 17 branches throughout the state. We serve all foster children in the state as well as children that are in relative/kinship placements!

I'm guessing that shemarie82 could whip up an Amazon wish list to help support her county and maybe even be able to spread the love to other counties in Michigan.  I googled and found a news article about you, but I won't link it here because, well, it's your face and name.  But I have to say that reading the article was impressive.

I'd like to nominate DC Family & Youth Initiative. They work with teens in foster care in the DC area, pairing them with mentors and families with the ultimate goal of helping them find a forever home before they age out of the system.

Every holiday, they collect wish lists from the teens in the program and volunteers and generous donors purchase things off the wish list and the kids get to open them at a holiday party they have for them. It's really a wonderful organization that operates on a shoe-string budget but does amazing things with it.
