We are getting close...
What are you planning for LO's first birthday? A fancy catered affair for all of your friends and family? A complete refusal to recognize the day and the fact that your baby is growing up? Something in between?
Share your inspirations for outfits, decorations and smash cakes!
kate61487 will be up first in just about a month, right?

I love to go all out making decorations for the kids parties. Hers will probably be a princess theme or something but we'll decide in January, maybe she'll be in to something more.
We're planning a big hot wheels party for ds1 5th at the end of November. We're doing walking tacos for the adults and probably mac and cheese for the kids because that is what DS favorite food is right now.
All parties are at our house and we cook all the food except the cake. Makes me excited just thinking about it!! 😀

Hahaha I'm half planning already! I have a little house so I can't manage the big party and I'm in Canada so there's absolutely no chance for indoor/outdoor party. I'm thinking it will be immediate family only. I want Dino theme! This is the cake I want! Coincidentally the right name
Married 10/10/10! TTC Baby #1 since April 2014 BFP Oct 16 - EP terminated Nov 6 2014 Off the Bench January 2015! BFP #2 June 1 2015 - EDD Feb 12 2016! Baby Boy born 15th February 2016!
We will do an extended family party. Probably at my GMILs since it will be cold and our house is too small to host everyone inside. Not sure of the theme. Dd1's was ladybug and it was the cutest ever.
We are hosting Thanksgiving and Christmas at our house, plus DS's birthday is Christmas Eve, so I need to get through those holidays and his party first. I will probably start looking for 1 year photo outfits though just so I'm not ordering stuff last minute.
So far for all of DS's birthdays, we've just had immediate family (mine and DH's siblings and parents) over to our house for supper and cake. I've cooked the food myself (one year I think we ordered pizza). I have done his cake myself as well and have done something different every year. 1 year was penguin cupcakes (winter onederland theme), 2 year was hockey decorated cake, 3rd year was dirt cake cups.
I have also made DS a birthday shirt, just taken a plain long sleeve tee and sewn on the number coinciding with that birthday. I've chosen the fabric to go along with what he was into/theme (wintery, hockey, and last year was Mickey Mouse). My plan is to keep all the shirts and maybe make a tshirt quilt with them one day. Although I don't know how old he'll get before he refuses to let me do it. Maybe he'll stop wearing them but I'll still make them to coincide fabric with his interests that year? I dunno. For now it's cute anyway.
My H and I were just discussing this actually. Less than 4 months until my boy turns one.. I'm so excited.
We plan to do a casual get together for us, our parents and siblings, our grandparents, and his godparents. No other friends or extended family. I'll probably just make food to put out for lunch, get a cake from the local bakery.. basically the same as we did for his baptism. Nothing too crazy.
Say it ain't so 😣😭😭😢😢 yes my boys hit 11 months a week from today!
We haven't talked too much about it. We had over 50ppl for their baptism and that's just not possible at our house in the winter, so we'll have to pare it down. We'll either cook or cater, but definitely have it at home.
chocolate that shirt idea is so stinkin cute! I love it.
I saw onesies on a preemie site just after they were born that said "I'm older than I look" if I can find those again I'll get them for a photo at least.
Ugh, I know I want to put some streamers up behind the highchair for pictures and I pinned some smash cake ideas before I was pregnant but I haven't thought at all about an actual party. I know I have a handmedown one-derfull onesie, and some fancier shirts but haven't really thought about outfits and all of that either.
I'll probably do a party with family. All the grandparents and some cousins. I'm already worrying about snow storms though. DS was born during a snow storm and February seems to be when we get the most snow.

My family takes a very casual approach to birthdays. DH's family goes all-out for every birthday. We really have different expectations. I mentioned that I didn't want to make a big deal out of DD's first birthday. DH said he agreed - he was only thinking of inviting over 15-20 friends (on top of family). Um, no. I was thinking us and our parents and that's about it. DH also said he wants to grill for everybody. Her birthday is February 3. I don't think we can plan on that.

I've thought about it here and there but still not sure what I'm going to do. By the time we have grandparents, aunts/uncles and god parents we could be looking at easily 15+ adults and 5 kids. I have a small house and it will be full on winter. I should probably start looking at spaces to rent.
For DD1 my theme was basically coral and aqua colours. I made her cake, a banner with a picture from each month of her first year and matching one for her high chair, got a balloon bouquet and did BBQ/finger food.
I've considered doing our family tartan as a theme this time or I'm toying with rainbows since it's so anti-winter it might be fun to have all the colour when it's just white and grey outside.

Did you make that cake? It's beautiful!
I am thinking of doing some rainbow decorations too. She is my rainbow baby, and as you said, it would be a nice way to break up the February gray.

It was delicious. The bottom tier was vanilla and the others were tomato soup cake with cream cheese icing.
I made a 4-tier cake for a friend (while 37 weeks pregnant with DD1, NEVER AGAIN) and each tier was a different flavour: vanilla cake with raspberry white chocolate filling, chocolate cake with a crumbled Oreo filling, her grandmother's cherry cake, and carrot cake. I attended the wedding and they announced that I made it before it was served. I told DH that if everyone started making faces I was waddling my way right out the door! (There were only compliments thankfully)

I love the cute Pinterest worthy 1st parties, but we live so far from friends and family, it would just be depressing, ha.
My mom might fly out. I'll probably make a cake. That's about it.
This makes me sad, but since we're flying home for Thanksgiving and Christmas, we can't afford to do it again for a birthday party. So I'll live vicariously through all of your cute stuff instead!

Haha, yes. My first reaction when my mom first told me about it was *Ewww*. Apparently it was a things in decades gone by. It's reminiscent of spice cake, pumpkin loaf etc. It's really nice and moist. I made it for DH's birthday the first year we were together and it's still one of his favourites (he's not a big cake fan).

My SIL lived in tx when her daughter turned one. MIL and FIL went down to visit for her party and they Skyped us for gift opening. Maybe you could do something like that with your families? (Skyping)

DD2 is 10 months today, waaaaaaaaahhhh!! We'll be doing a low key thing with just us and maybe ILs, since they'll be visiting for Christmas I'm thinking rainbow theme, since she's my rainbow and her name means rainbow.

This we just got back from my home town today (so twice in october.) plus christmas i don't think we will also make it home for the birthday but who knows. and if we do we won't have a huge party unless someone else plans it. same reason why i never got a baby shower. too far away ( and i am totally not bitter, or jealous of those who did) SaveSave
I am doing a "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, one year old is what you are" theme. Pinterest is a problem, I started planning when it was 4 months out, then decided it was too early and now I have less than 2 months and I can't handle it! I'm starting to fret. But SO excited!
DD2 is 9 months tomorrow! I was thinking of doing a "little sweet heart" theme since her party will be on Feb 11th (her bday), close to Valentine's day.
